I'm back from a hiatus. My father had a heart attack and was at my brother's marriage. Unfortunately, my brother did get married and therefore didn't survive. I changed/added a couple of sentences relating to the canals flowing south from the Jordan River and back into Utah Lake and on the Surplus Canal. If these changes are ok, I think I've answered all of your questions/suggestions. Is there something I missed or didn't do right? There was a spill of 33,000 gallons of crude oil into Red Butte Creek last week. Some of the oil did make it into the Jordan River and eventually into the Great Salt Lake. It's unknown how much has made it into the river. Most of the news is focusing on the "rich" people next to the creek and the oil that made it into Liberty Park. Sorry, I didn't have the source in the right spot on wikimedia. Source has been updated on the wikimedia page for the photo. The photo was printed in a book from 1901 that was published by the USGS, so the Utah State Historical Society cannot copyright the photo. Should the photo be cropped to remove the copyright tag? Yeah, I am on a bit of a role. I am trying to get a DYK for every state. I am a little over half way there. Most of my articles have been state parks. Some states don't have much info on their state parks. I may have to expand my reach. Do you have a suggestion for Oregon? Re: notes and referencesIt's still not the ideal way of presenting things, since the WP:MOS discourages the use of multiple subsection headers like that. However, in looking at what you've got there, you are presenting both actual footnotes, inline citations, as well as an alphabetical listing of references. So it's a lot of info. Capitol LoopIt's been ages since I've asked for your assistance, but I was wondering what you'd think about copy editing and reviewing a highway article again? The backstory here is simple, Awadewit looked over this article almost two years ago for me when we were discussing the concept of "context" on highway articles. Since then, I've moved closer so I have better access to the libraries local to that roadway. Last week, I rewrote the article on the Capitol Loop, purging the press releases as source and actually expanding on the content. Now the previous version was rated A-Class by the project, and I've asked on the project page for editors to review it on the article's talk page. I know it could use some polishing in the prose department, so I was hoping you might be willing at some point to help. List of parks in Portland, OregonThanks for your feedback on the talk page of the list. I am slowly plugging away at adding ALL of the parks listed on the Portland Parks & Recreation website, along with their locations, size and a references for each. Then, it will come down to creating stubs for many of the parks and filling in the gaps of the list. 40+ milesI saw that you were compiling a list of streams of Oregon over 40 miles long. I thought I'd look for lesser-known possibilities. I haven't looked very hard, but have you considered Big Sheep Creek? No Wikipedia page, it seems; in GNIS it's U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Big Sheep Creek. A quick and rough measure in Google Earth gave me a length of something right around 40 miles. I liked visiting the Lewis and Clark River area. Hopefully we'll manage another family vacation to Cannon Beach someday. If you do someday want to play with GIS data, the app I mentioned, ArcExplorer, is free and fairly simple. It's little more than a GIS data viewer, without the bazillion analysis tools of most GIS apps. It's interface is a bit annoying, but it does the job. Could be a good way to get started. Most GIS apps are dauntingly complex. I agree that citing the WBD, or the NHD, seems reliable--but isn't exactly a helpful way to show others how to verify the info. Maybe it would be helpful if the cite wasn't just to the WBD in general, but the specific datafiles, and perhaps something like, "accessed via ArcExplorer." That way others could, if they really wanted, download the specific datafile and viewer app. Hmm, I'll think about how that kind of citation might be done. It might be difficult to provide specific datafile names. I could point to a website that extracts the data and emails it to you (which is how I've been downloading the bits and pieces so far). ..Anyway, I should get to checking those basin sizes tonight sometime. I fixed the length ref as it was missing the URL. It seems to me that the length of the Klamath Rivewr could be calcualted from the total length (287 miles) minus the river miles at the Oregon-California border (208 miles). I think this is 79 miles, but I figured I would ask you to check my reasoning, and also to see if you thought it worth including.
