A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.
The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

The article Jean Joseph Marie Amiot you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Jean Joseph Marie Amiot for comments about the article, and Talk:Jean Joseph Marie Amiot/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
Following a talk page discussion, the Administrators' accountability policy has been updated to note that while it is considered best practice for administrators to have notifications (pings) enabled, this is not mandatory. Administrators who do not use notifications are now strongly encouraged to indicate this on their user page.

Following a motion, the Extended Confirmed Restriction has been amended, removing the allowance for non-extended-confirmed editors to post constructive comments on the "Talk:" namespace. Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.
The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.
how did you read and respond with a half paragraph within like 10 seconds lol anyway I think that changing Gonzo's short description to best person to ever play football is just commonly known truth, not biased whatsoever, 2600:8800:1800:5E0:9815:AEC3:C406:C4FB (talk) 08:10, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

I am the manager of a local restaurant, At 7 Bar & Grill in Des Plaines Illinois and I have written an extensive article on things to do in Des Plaines. I think this is a great article to put on the Wikipedia page about the city of Des Plaines.
@Fehufanga I am not the owner, I just work there for salary. This article really covers everything that is interesting in Des Plaines and there is nothing like it on the internet. This is not a promotion, but I want this article to reach a large number of people who would like to visit our beautiful city. Ekibum (talk) 23:05, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Following a motion, the Arbitration Committee rescinded the restrictions on the page name move discussions for the two Ireland pages that were enacted in June 2009.
Advice to receive the global rollback right and another one
Hello, I was thinking if I could receive some advice on receiving the global rollback permission, such as requirements in addition to combating vandalism and spam on other wikis and not to edit war with vandals/LTAs, because I might consider re-applying in around late 2024; I'm currently a trusted rollbacker on enwiki, eswiki and simplewiki (although I'm probably not as active on the latter two). I did a request on Meta once, but it did not succeed (not done) as I didn’t have enough experience at the time. Based on the opposes, I decided to use TwinkleGlobal to help me with my anti-vandal/spam activities. Currently, I use the abuse log on Meta to watch for vandalism on other projects.
Similarly, are there any requirements for a very trusted user to have the global abuse filter helper right? I do know how to identify some LTAs at the very least (although I'm probably not as trusted as an admin who defends enwiki/simplewiki from the vandals), and I probably have at least some competency at the WP:EFFPR page by responding to false positives for some time; I probably have another trusted user to nominate me for EFH on this project in April (via email).
@64andtim Hi, global rollback is given to users who are active in cross-wiki antivandalism. I see that you have used SWViewer, so that's good. However, a few months ago it seems that you were edit-warring with HoY on slwiki. From my experience in cross-wiki antivandalism, you should avoid edit warring with known LTAs, or currently active cross-wiki abusers who are known to make frequent revers. Somebody might highlight this in your request. Besides that, your current cross-wiki activity looks good to me. I think if you keep up your cross-wiki activity your request will be successful.
As for the abuse filter right, I'd say that it's slightly more trusted than global rollback, as this user right grants you the ability to see all filter logs and abuse filters on all Wikimedia projects (not including log entries hidden by oversighters). These logs may contain private data, libel, LTA behaviour and other information that should not be made public, and rules in the filters themselves can be used by abusers to circumvent them. I'd say that once you've used the global rollback for a few months, you can consider it. Having local EFH also helps. I hope this helps. Best, —*Fehufangą (✉ Talk · ✎ Contribs) 09:00, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
About the edit war, I thought that LTA spammed disruptive text on pages on the Slovene Wikipedia, and I was trying to revert all of their edits but little did I know that this would be considered edit warring. I will take note on the fact that I should avoid to edit war with known vandals (just like Ferien told me not to edit war with Projects on simplewiki), and how I will have addressed the edit war issue by the time I do my next request on Meta.
As for the global AFH right, in addition to EFH on this wiki, it will also allow me to respond to change filter mistakes on the Simple English Wikipedia (in addition to admins), and also edit filter false positives on the Spanish Wikipedia (Spanish is my first language, and I don't have the experience to modify filters there without causing some risk of disruption, or have the required trust to be an admin on eswiki). While I'm probably on point that I could be trusted to view private data (such as emails, phone numbers, attempted doxxing edits, libel and stuff like that), I might need a few more months to have the required trust on not spilling the frijoles in public, and to continue being competent on responding to false positives here (my regex is probably very basic).
Hello, Fehufanga. I'm Mreci1, and it's nice meet you. I wish to talk you about the article page of an archangel named Jophiel you had contributed because I made contributions there. Mreci1 (talk) 01:34, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
Technically, it's a contribution debate I had with a user named Archangel53. In the article page of Johphiel, he changed her and she to just Jophiel, explaining that angels are neither male nor female. Although it's true, most of the angels' names sound male while some are female. I changed it back the way it was because I don't think it counts as misinformation if the angels' names either sound male or female. However, Archangel53 changed it back the way he wanted again. Hello, Fehufanga. I tried to talk to Archangel53 about the contributions of Jophiel, but he didn't answer. And recently, another user named NebY did the same changes as him. I could try to talk with NebY about letting Jophiel remain a female, but he would ignore me or disagree. He has joined longer than me, but I can try to find reliable sources of Archangel Jophiel being a female. Mreci1 (talk) 02:08, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
@Mreci1 Sorry for the late response; I can only repeat my previous advice: taking it to the talk page of the article. When disagreements happen, the best way to resolve it is through the talk page. It's great that you are looking for reliable sources, but beyond this, I cannot help you at all. —*Fehufangą (✉ Talk · ✎ Contribs) 21:51, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

If you can't get the article from the resource request, you can try contacting Martina Topp on Facebook and Instagram. She is very active on those platforms and would probably respond quite fast to your request. Viriditas (talk) 21:16, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
On 29 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Franz Jakob Späth, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Franz Jakob Späth's fortepianos were a favorite of Mozart, but Beethoven refused to play them? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Franz Jakob Späth. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Franz Jakob Späth), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
You are a remarkable editor in many ways. You would be a good administrator, in my opinion, and appear to be well qualified. You personify an administrator without tools and have gained my support already!
As you are a trusted oversighter and admin on simplewiki, I hereby agree that nobody will object on you becoming an admin and edit filter manager here on the English Wikipedia. Codename Noreste 🤔 talk02:28, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
