User_talk:Rob_Lindsey inappropriate commentsHi I have been informed of inappropriate accusations about myself and my entries at the above page. You are mentioned and gave advice to google and test the page - which obviously has not happened. I have updated many pages and am in the process of doing many more. The page mentioned was one of my early pages when I was learning the ropes and the speedy deletion was due to a lack of links rather than the content not being appropriate. I learnt how to link to information and I really take offense at someone saying that an award winning, multi published author is not suitable for wiki or that if such a person is listed it must be by themselves. I am a professional in the area of heritage and am on ministerially appointed committees and have been working in my own time at ensuring that the information on wiki for the Central Victorian Region is accurate. There are several stub pages I have improved, I've sourced and linked others and provided images. It does worry me somewhat that someone can have something of this nature pop up on google without having checked the facts by clicking on the links or contacting me to see whether his accusation was true or not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.254.125.77 (talk • contribs)
Admin coaching requestHi, I'm GorillaWarfare and am hoping to receive some coaching to become an admin. If you'd like to coach me, please leave a message on my talk page. You can see my edit count here but don't be surprised when you see that I have 25 edits. That is because I recently forgot the password to my old account, User:Theunicyclegirl. Here is my edit count from my old account. I almost have 2000 edits. I frequently revert vandalism by watching Lupin's filtered RCs. I also like to expand stubs, particularly those relating to cats or dogs. I am very good with user warning templates and speedy deletion templates. I sometimes respond on AFD. Thanks for considering me! --GorillaWarfare talk 16:57, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, well thanks at least for telling me. I appreciate it! –GorillaWarfare talk 20:18, 30 July 2007 (UTC) Hi You have just deleted a article Spike Island Art Space which is an art organisation in Bristol. I was about to go back to edit more and it has been deleted. Why might i ask have you deleted this??
Xmind deletionHi, yesterday I just want to publish the details about the mind mapping software-XMIND here. But soon it was deleted. So can you tell me what's the problem happened? Thank you very much! Stephen
Hi Fang Aili, There's something strange going on at the XMIND page, and after trying to have something done about it, I see you were concerned in the past about the same entry, so perhaps you can advise me. I have twice marked the following entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMIND as needing npov, being of questionable notability, needing cleanup and having excessive links. I explained the reasons in Talk. The article itself has been improved (it was horrible English at the beginning), but still has nothing to substantiate the page's notability, and still has three links to the same commercial site. Two explanations of my actions in Talk have been removed (Talk is now empty) and all the history of the changes was removed. I edited, logged in, on 10th and 11th October, some anon editors made changes and SmackBot added dates. All of that was deleted from history. In view of the deletion of history, I reported this more or less as above on "Administrator intervention against vandalism" against the editor who appeared to have done it Briansun. Now, my report there has disappeared, does not appear in that page's history and the XMIND page history and my Talk entries there are still missing. There is nothing explaining what happened to my request for intervention on my Talk page. As you made similar, and in my view correct, observations about XMIND's page in July, I wonder if you have any idea what might be going on? You clearly have a great deal more WP experience than I. Isn't it against Wikipedia policy to delete Talk entries (at least when points raised in them have not been properly resolved)? How does history get deleted? Is this just some problem with server replication, perhaps and all will be visible again in a day or so? I'd appreciate your advice. Argey 12:55, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Applied BiosystemsHello Fang Aili, On May 24, 2007 you deleted Applied Biosystems, Inc. citing {{db-advert}}. I intend to create a good new history page with good refs for this pioneer biotech and biochem instruments company, as a buildup to a new/same page for a major uncompleted company in Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/List of notable companies. But before I get too deeply invested into it, I want to make sure it doesn't just get deleted. Just browsing on the surface of Wikipedia, it seems to have a singnificant history, as to notability, based on the "what links here" wikilinks, which are pretty substantial, for a never created/deleted page:
Well, frankly, just based on this quick New York Times source that I just found, I am going to move forward with creating the page: http://partners.nytimes.com/library/national/science/062700sci-genome-history.html "The concept of Celera grew from a surprising source, a company then known as Applied Biosystems, which made the principal brand of DNA sequencing machine used by the consortium's centers." Hello, I just removed the AfD from this article, Ernest Emerson. I just think it would be prudent to wait until tomorrow, when the article is no longer featured on the main page. I'm not going to be online a lot today, and I don't want to argue a lot about this, so if someone reverts me that's ok. I just think a little caution is warranted when the article is going to be seen by thousands of people today. Have a good day, Fang Aili talk 12:33, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Your role as AdminSo you don't want to talk about EE any longer - fair enough. So let's review your actions and the way you have used your Admin status today. First of all the Deletion notice states clearly that it should not be removed. So what policy gave you the right to do this? So far you have only cited another editor's view that it might look a bit odd. You have not clearly enunciated your reasoning ie. I queried what an IAR was and you did not explain this. Where does it say that an Main Page FA cannot have a deletion notice? Albatross2147 13:27, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Great, now Albatross has reinstated a closed and tagged AfD in the article space. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:58, 1 October 2007 (UTC) Ernest Emerson DeletionWill you please resurrect the AfD which you stopped. The article is clearly unencyc and as it stands does not belong here. Any changes are reverted by the article's main author and so can't be cleaned up. Albatross2147 03:42, 4 October 2007 (UTC) i agree Albatross i have tagged the page twice for being a advert and suggested it was cleaned up but mike searson just to undo my tag, surly with so many people agreeing in one poll on the talk page 9 people said it needed changed and only three wanted it left as it was! surly it needs cleaned up! John joskins 08:24, 4 October 2007 (UTC) Fang Aili: I think it was a mistake to remove a legitimate AfD tag, even though the article was on the main page. "Looks terrible" is disputable, and I think your opinion is wrong. I think it makes us look more legitimate than if we featured a puff piece without comment. An AfD on, say, today's front-page Kingdom Hearts page would look terrible, but for questionable articles that somehow slipped past the FA process (which IMO is obviously shoddy based on a couple of recent FA's), I think it strengthens our credibility. Anyway, please restore it now. Tempshill 16:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
ThanksThanks for helping out with cleaning up the prose in the Emerson article. I didn't realize it until you did it but as a knife collector "Art knives" means something different than it would to the average person, "decorative" might seem more fitting to folks who only know knives by what's in their kitchen drawers. Thanks also for the level-headedness and your honesty per the AFD, even though I don't agree with it; I know you were put in a tight spot by a vocal minority. For what it's worth, I have never had an objection to cleaning up prose in the article; only people removing citations and references, very few people will pitch in and help...most prefer to wave their arms and throw rocks. Regards--Mike Searson 03:32, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Again, thanks. Like I had said earlier...this was originally 2 articles (other was called Emerson Knives)and this one contained a paragraph or 2 referncing the other one. One editor demanded the two be merged into one and I had been working on Combat Systems as a seperate piece...so all three were combined. The guitar section was a bit longer, but it was trimmed back for notability (it only debuted in June of this year!), so it probably looked out of place in the introduction.--Mike Searson 03:53, 5 October 2007 (UTC) Ernest Emerson FARI have started a featured article review for Ernest Emerson at Wikipedia:Featured article review/Ernest Emerson. Hammered dulcimer / Psaltery entriesI am sorry first I am writing here, but the WikiPedia Talk section is extremely user antagonistic to persons with knowledge of the subjects on Wikipedia but not computer programming. I have absolutely no idea how to use it, so I thought I would drop this in your lap and see if you can use it. There is a proposal on the hammered dulcimer entry in Wikipedia to merge it with the psaltery. I don't suppose the person who made this proposal actually -knows- anything about either instrument. The hammered dulcimer is a trapezoidally shaped soundbox, with two or more bridges under pairs (or triplets or quadruplets) of strings tuned together called courses, played with mallets. They vary in size, and the courses are normally counted by the number of courses over each bridge from left to right (12/11, etc.) The bowed psaltery is an isosceles triange in shape, with a single bridge at the base, and tuning pegs along the long sides. These afford spaces which the bowed psaltry may be be bowed with either one or two (one in each hand) low tension bows. I have played the hammered dulcimer (mine is a non-standard size 16/15) and bowed psaltery (mine has 31) all my adult life, playing in Renaissance Faires, bars, clubs, aboard Naval ships at sea (the dulcimer was a traditional instrument in the Navy at the beginning of the XX Century - documented by photographs in books), folk demonstrations, a mediaeval music competition in Weisbaden, W. Germany, and at the 1993 Closing Ceremony at The Worlds Fair in Seville, Spain. My mother has done the same sorts of things before me (and still does), as well as playing Irish harp, and has seven albums. I released one album while still in the Navy. I once obtained information from the Library of Congress on the bowed psaltery for her regarding its age and origin. The information they sent back through their research indicated no linkage between the two insturments. Although not an "expert," I think I know enough to say that they are not the same instrument. They do not look, sound, or are played the same. One might as well merge pianos, accordions, and concertinas because they all have keys. I strongly encourage that these two instruments, which only have a lot of strings in common, be maintained seperately. Thank you . . . Deleting of Standard RegisterGood evening. I was curious as to why you deleted my recently posted article on Standard Register? I am semi-retired from SR and dabble in communications. I attended a large public relations conference last week and learned much about social media and Wikipedia. I started exploring Wikipedia and found all of my previous employers -- except Standard Register. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to start my Wikipedia presense. I understand it was tagged for having advertising-like text. I actually pulled the text from the SR Web site (www.standardregister.com) and pasted it into my article. I went ahead and did some editting to take out the marketing garbage, but then it was deleted. Can you give me some guidance on how to get it back? I can certainly edit it further if that is the issue. SR is a great company -- in fact, it is a leading company in printing and document management, and it well reknown in the Dayton area (it is number 6 on this year's InformationWeek 500 list of technology innovators, and it was recently named a finalist for the Dayton Business Journal's Business of the Year). Just take a look at the awards page on their site. Quite impressive and a great addition to Wikipedia. I look forward to hearing back from you and getting your insight. Hi Erica/Fang Aili Thank you for cleaning up some of the items in the WGA article. This article has experienced a lot of deletions and undos without much explanation in the Discussion tab and I've also been guilty of that at times. The addition of the Disambiguation flag didn't fall into that trap though as a lengthy post is in the Discussion tab from 11/2 without objections. While the article is certainly not FORMATTED as a Disambig page, the SUBSTANCE is exactly that (in my opinion). Do you agree or disagree? Either way I would welcome your thoughts in the WGA discussion tab. Thanks! DirectRevelation 18:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)DirectRevelation
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User talk:Shephardfamilyenterprise, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User talk:Shephardfamilyenterprise is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article. AfDHi Erica. You recently deleted the Magen Lacholeh article. Some users wanted deletion based on the lack of reliable and English ghits. Is this really WK's criteria? Should WK be limited to "Google Indexed English Language Sources". There is enough other (printed) information in the world to write a good encyc article. Such sources were provided but not given proper consideration. Please advice. -- Dandin 02:47, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

The article failed to cite sources out side of its own web sites, and fails even to clearly state what the Millennium Villages Project is (Vaguely refering to it as an approach). Jackson HainesHello Fang Aili - Are you still interested in the information in the German article about Jackson Haines? The text there is quite different from the English, and doesn't always agree with it. If you want, I can put a translation of the German here on your talk page and you can figure out how to integrate the two versions, since you seem to know more about ice skating than I do. I have no idea what language the German article's source is in, but it seems eastern European (not German and not Finnish). Scbarry (talk) 06:24, 6 December 2007 (UTC) Hello again - I didn't feel like waiting for your reply, so here is the relevant info from the German site. You can do what you want to with it. :-) ---- Jackson Haines (born 1840 in New York, (USA), died 1876 in Gamlakarleby (today Kokkola), Finland) was a ballet master, figure skater and above all, the founder of modern figure skating. Jackson Haines won the first US championship in 1864 with a new way of figure skating and new skates made of steel. However, he was criticized and accused of concentrating more on the poses of the body and the extremities than on skating the figures. The stiff and severe English style of figure skating still predominated. He therefore went to Europe and put on many exhibition performances. The first success came in Stockholm. His performance aroused the enthusiasm of the Swedish King Carl XV so much that he decided to found a Royal Ice Skating Society in 1866. In the winter of 1868, he went to Vienna, where he again triumphed. Great astonishment prevailed in the ranks of the viewers present when he skated a waltz over the entire ice. The city of Johann Strauss offered him their thanks in their own way: one evening, 500 couples danced his waltzes on the ice! His performance became an impulse for the founding of the Vienna school, which soon balanced out the lead held by the English up until that time. His athletic performances appeared to be so astonishing that those who didn't see them with their own eyes didn't want to believe them: they questioned the performance of the figures described. Depping, author of the work, "Zauber der Stärke und Können" ("Magic of Strength and Skill", 1869), wrote in his book that it was not possible to change direction without a new push. He rejected the statements of the eyewitnesses by saying that they were victims of an optical delusion. The first true figure skater died of the results of a lung infection. He contracted it during a sleigh ride from St. Petersburg to Stockholm. He was buried in the small town of Galmakarleby in Finland. The heading The King of Skating is the last evidence of the existence of a man who entered his name so expressively into the history of figure skating. See alsoSource
