Use of rollback

Actually, it's just a habit I have if someone beats me to an edit I want to make. No I am not new. I actually had an account here for a few months and then I was blocked for a good month and a half. Tagging articles for speedy deletion for not being in English

Hi Eurodyne. I noticed that you placed a speedy delete tag on Instituto Gerir requesting that it be deleted for being in the wrong language. An article being in a non-English language alone is not one of the specific criteria for speedy deletion. If you find a page that isn't English, tag it with {{Not English}} instead.

However, in this case I used Google translate and determined that the article was about an organization that didn't indicate why it was notable. I replaced your speedy deletion tag with an A7 speedy deletion tag instead. I've also reported the user to Usernames for Administrator Attention for having a promotional username.

reason for content removal "decreased suicide risk"

Removed the content regarding decreased suicide risk because the section was read like a pharmaceutical company advertisement and was inappropriately in the wiki article regarding increased risk NOT decreased risk. Perhaps a new article should be started for this PHARMA advertisement? Maybe we have enough on television? In fact the information cited in the content I removed was from an article sponsored and with data SUPPLIED by the pharmaceutical industry. Here is the footnote from the very article the section cited and used for its sole content.

"Additional Contributions: Data were supplied by the National Institute of Mental Health (Treatment for Adolescents With Depression Study), Wyeth, and Eli Lilly and Co.

Farm Team: Professional Wrestling Heading

Hello,

I have twice removed the Professional Wrestling section from the Farm Team page. The first time, I was questioned and provided a response, but I was never responded to, nor was any further action taken. This time, I see that you reverted my change by saying that I provided no reason for change. Please allow me to explain...

The definition for a farm team, directly from the Wikipedia entry, is as follows: "In sports, a farm team, farm system, feeder team or nursery club, is generally a team or club whose role is to provide experience and training for young players, with an agreement that any successful players can move on to a higher level at a given point."

Professional wrestling is not a sport. These organizations that are training professional wrestlers are are better likened to professional wrestling schools or academies than they are to farm teams. Professional wrestlers are not players, either. They are actors. Professional wrestling is a scripted television show, not a competition. If an entry for professional wrestling belongs on this page, then an entry for the scripted television program Friends also deserves an entry. Jennifer Aniston acted on four, failed TV shows, while David Schwimmer was a bit player in dozens of productions, before they were both "called up" to the Friends "roster."

As much as fans of professional wrestling would like to consider it sports entertainment, it's not a sport. In fact, in my estimation, it doesn't even qualify as entertainment. Regardless, it certainly has no place on a Farm Team entry on Wikipedia. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Hoyt Wilhelm

I beefed up some of the sections and added subsections to the MLB career portion. I am heading to bed, but I hope to return to it this weekend. To me, the biggest issue is that the 1960s seasons receive very little mention. Baseball-Reference.com or old articles from the Google News Archive may help us to fill in some of those gaps. We should have a little time to beef up the article, as most noms aren't reviewed right away. If it does get reviewed and is not sufficient, we can just fix it and renominate it. Draft: SAFID

Hi Eurodyne – thanks for reviewing the draft for SAFID, could you tell me where I went wrong exactly so I can edit? I've got three things in mind that May have prompted you to turn it down: 1. the lengthy list of products in the Products section, 2. The projected output of United Iron and Steel's new plant – perhaps that should be left out until it becomes a reality and 3. The award. I can't see much else in there that would be considered not neutral. Some editors might object to language like 'core business' and 'now has markets in', and that can be adjusted very easily, but the facts are that this is a significant operator in the region, in an important industry for that region particularly with the development taking place, that it is involved in a number of big projects, that it mainly makes ducts and that it has developed a specific type of duct. Hi – thanks for getting back so quick. Understand these are interviews but they're secondary sources with editorial oversight and I've used them to support content that's completely uncontroversial. If someone expresses a point of view in an interview and that's then used as a reference for a sentence that makes it a statement of fact, that's a poor use of that source. We have to be careful with interviews for sure - most notably in a BLP when the interviewee is the article subject - but these are just straightforward facts about the company. I'd argue these aren't primary or self-published, but secondary sources that are sufficiently reliable for the content they're supporting. I could take you on, though to be honest I've reviewed for so long that the way I do it is pretty bare bones since I don't bother with templates or anything extra of that nature. Not sure if that would be an issue for you or not (probably not, since it's just a cosmetic-type issue). If you're up for it then I can at least try to walk you through a review or two, sure. Thanks for the feedback on the article I submitted on the Canadian record producer musician Greg Kavanagh. I am trying to develop my interest in Canadian music history with a focus on the people behind the artists that Canadians know. Can you help me with improving my article please? Kavanagh was nominated for a Juno (Our Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) 5 times as a artist or a producer and a winner as a member of BKS. I read the guidelines for a notable person in the music and he seems to meet the criteria set forth there.

I cited Allmusic which I understood to be viewed as creditable. Should I have used another source?

Any suggestions would be of great help to me to further my passion for the Canadian recording history

I'm writing to ask if the current 'notability' views can have exceptions. I have read through the guidelines of subject notability as well as the three golden rules, and I can definitely see why you declined my article of Tex Konig; the only sources I have are mainly concert programmes and a forum discussion of his passing. There have been no books written about him, but I still refuse to believe he is not note-worthy. I understand that everything under the sun cannot and should not be listed in an encyclopedia, but Tex Konig is not a local manager of a Cesar's Pizza or an assistant sound editor of an album. I've been introduced to so mainly things through the help of Wikipedia and I made an account especially for this Konig article to spread the word of him for others to discover his life work.

There's already a large list of folk singers who appeared in Toronto's 'Fast Folk' magazine. I have browsed through this category and there are some who I would question being note-worthy. Roger Manning has three sentences and two sources. He put out only three albums and has been retried from music for over ten years. Tex Konig has played in Mariposa concerts, put out one album, two story narratives as well as several television and silver screen appearances. Additionally Michael Fracasso has an article with AllMusic.com being the only source. Fracasso is mentioned to have performed in coffeehouses, just like Tex Konig. However, Fracasso has put out six albums. Nothing else in his article screams "note-worthy" to me. If you are basing importance off of number of album releases, then you got me there. But going off of the rules of Wiki, Fracasso has no business being on this site. Fracasso and Manning are probably not the only non-notable people in this category, but I wonder how they slipped through the tight cracks of Wikipedia.

The sources I found were everything the internet would provide me. The forum thread was filled with stories from only personal friends and fellow folk-singers, some of whom have Wiki articles of them and some not. I still consider this as being truthful. If you reconsider publishing this article, I will look into correcting the headings (I'm very new to this and am not sure how to make general big font headings) as well as cleaning up the doubled links in the references (I am not sure what I did to make two of everything). Cleanup tag on Early human migrations

You recently reverted my removal of a cleanup tag stating "Fact checking needed for most of the article". This is not true. There are only three citation needed tags in the article, and almost everything in the article is backed up by citations given. Three "citation needed" tags in an long article with extensive citations is not sufficient reason for a tag at the top of the article claiming most of the article needs fact checking, which is not true. Hello, I just received notice that my article about Francis F. Lee was rejected for the following reason: “This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability.”

I would like to request that you reconsider the article on the following grounds. First, I supplied numerous references for all the information included. It is true that I was not able to find a prominent newspaper article that discussed Dr. Lee's accomplishments, which I know would have been ideal. However, like many inventors and professors of that era (not to mention Asian immigrants), Dr. Lee was not interested in publicity. He operated mostly “behind the scenes” but nonetheless played a central role in many significant inventions. Looking at analogous Wikipedia entries, I have noticed that, for his generation, published obituaries frequently serve as key evidence of notability. Fortunately, Dr. Lee is still living (he turned 88 on 1/28/2015), so a newspaper obituary is not yet available.

Dr. Lee pioneered new pathways for EKGs and for two groundbreaking applications of digital sound. As with many notable figures, the value of his contributions cannot be measured by newpaper or media coverage.

The rejection referred to a need for references not tied to the subject. Again, I feel the nature of my references reflects the nature of an MIT prof whose work was "behind the scenes" and of early digital technology. I did include objective sources, such as: Hoffman, Frank (2004). Encyclopedia of Recorded Sound. Routledge; Holms, Thom (2006). The Routledge Guide to Music Technology. Routledge; "Engineering Excellence". American Radio History; Belzer, et al, Jack (1979). Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Technology. New York: Marcel Dekker; Chiou, et al, Stefanie. Allow me to briefly recap four primary reasons for Francis Lee’s notability, all of which my article provides reputable sources for:

1. Lee founded Lexicon. Wikipedia has an entry on Lexicon and mentions Lee’s name, but readers cannot click on Lee to find out more about him in Wikipedia.

2. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Francis Lee recognized that the future of engineering and computers was going to be digital. He proceeded to invent three groundbreaking pieces of technology: • The first Digital Cardiac Monitoring System (patented), which was an important step along the way to current EKG technology • The first digital audio delay, which introduced digital reverberation and effects processors to the recording industry (patented) • The first digital device that could compress or expand the time duration of sound waves (patented), which allowed the TV industry to show programs and movies at an accelerated speed with no distortion in audio quality. Immediately, a term for this was coined by TV engineers: Lexiconning. That led to a 1984 Emmy for Lee and Lexicon in for Lexicon's Time Compressor Model 1200, from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its technical contributions to editing. I have a photo of Dr. Lee accepting the Emmy, flanked by his colleagues at Lexicon.

3. It may help to put Francis F. Lee’s career next to that of one of his teachers, Robert M. Fano, an MIT professor who does merit an entry in Wikipedia. Unlike Lee, Fano’s achievements are exclusively within the academic realm. That is not to diminish Fano’s impressive career, only to say that Lee’s notability includes patenting major inventions and founding a company.

4. Even if we restrict ourselves to academic scholarship, Lee’s paper for Fano’s Project MAC, "Lookaside Memory Implementation,” revised and published by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) in 1969 as "Study of Look-Aside Memory” had major impact on the field. I actually downplayed this in the entry, imagining that Lee's specific inventions and the founding of Lexicon would be of more interest to the general reader. “Look-Aside Memory” continues to be cited, and was an important precursor to cache memory (and I know Wikipedia editors must value cache memory!). For example, in Principles of Computer System Design: An Introduction, authors Jerome H. Saltzer and M. Frans Kaashoek write that “The idea of cache, look-aside, or slave memory had been suggested independently by Francis Lee and Maurice Wilkes some time around 1963, but it was not until the advent of LSI technology that it became feasible to actually build one in hardware. …Once this paper appeared, a cache became the requirement for most later computer architectures” (p. 390).

Below are a selection of additional citations acknowledging Look-Aside Memory. If, after reading through the above, you still find that Dr. Francis F. Lee is insufficiently notable, may I ask that you provide me with additional explanation?

I don't find the references that are included in the article are reliable. For example, the first few references require a login. Reference 4 is blury and doesn't seem to support the topic. Eurodyne, at this point, I'm disappointed. You know what your unblock conditions are, but you are wikilawyering your way around those restrictions. The whole point of me giving you the second chance was for you to overcome your previous issues. My fear is that you haven't reached that point, and your not trying. You also are not posting any of your requests onwiki so that it's not scrutinized and you can ask around about things. It's not just one time either. Your name comes up on my radar more often than not with you making multiple requests with multiple people. At this point, I'd not be willing to consider you for an SPI clerk, for the reasons I just stated. I'm also blocking your emails and IRC conversations, and won't be notified of them. Francis F. Lee corrections

Hello Eurodyne -- I am delighted that you feel the article has potential to be a notable topic. You have declined the article because: "I don't find the references that are included in the article are reliable. For example, the first few references require a login. Reference 4 is blury and doesn't seem to support the topic." 1) I removed any references that require users to log in. I had only included those for reader interest in immigration. But Wikipedia policy only requires references for "any material challenged or likely to be challenged, and for all quotations," so these citations weren't necessary. 2) I replaced the original ref #4 with a reference to a The New York Times article. 3) I checked all the other reference links and they are working. 4) I reread the Wikipedia criteria about notability and references. As of this morning, I completed my (initial) goal of ensuing that every Boat Race had, not only its own article, but one that was either of GA or FA status: we now have 158 GAs and 3 FAs that we can all be proud of! It doesn't stop here, for me at least, I'm going to keep up with improving the quality of the GAs and look for more FA opportunities. DRN help needed and volunteer roll call

In reference to my attempt to offer changes to the Wikipedia F/A-18 page, I noted at the time I either mistakenly attempted approaches or failed to observe / note specific protocol/ requirements to insure my recommendation was considered. Hmm... that's odd. Anyways, I just had a few clarifying questions regarding DRN as I hope to become a regular volunteer.

1. I've looked through archives and often see the DRN coordinator closing requests. Can any DRN volunteer close or does only the coordinator take care of closing?

2. If a request has been filed and does not have sufficient discussion on the article talk page, can the request be closed right off the bat? What if editors aren't notified... does this merit closure as well?

User:Eurodyne - Any DRN volunteer can close a thread. However, they should only close a thread if they are reasonably certain that it should be closed. That is, inexperienced volunteers should only close obvious cases. Subtle cases should be left to the coordinator or to the chairman. In my opinion, if there has been no talk page discussion or very minimal talk page discussion, it may be closed right off. If there has been discussion, but not much, it is better to leave it open for a little while to allow more discussion, and then decide what to do. Failure to notify the other editors is not a reason to close a thread, only to ask for notice to be given. Do you have any more questions? Robert McClenon (talk) 04:06, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Please be more careful

I’ve had to WP:REVDEL the edits so its no use giving you a diff, but you recently reverted someone who made a “spelling correction” to what was clearly vandalism, but you failed to actually remove the vandalism they were “correcting” It was someone’s name and an accusation of “severe mental retardation” and your edit left it intact, only changing the capitalization done by the later edit. Announcements After over a decade of silence, the WikiProject Aviation newsletter is making a comeback under the name The WikiEagle. This first issue was sent to all active members of the project and its sub-projects. If you wish to continue receiving The WikiEagle, you can add your username to the mailing list. For now the newsletter only covers general project news and is run by only one editor. If you wish to help or to become a columnist, please let us know. If you have an idea which you believe would improve the newsletter, please share it; suggestions are welcome and encouraged. On 16 December, an RfC was closed which determined theaerodrome.com to be an unreliable source. The website, which is cited over 1,500 articles, mainly on WWI aviation, as of the publishing of this issue. Luft46.com has been added to the list of problematic sources after this discussion. The Jim Lovell article was promoted to Featured Article status on 26 December after being nominated by Hawkeye7. The Raymond Hesselyn article was promoted to Good Article status on 4 December after being nominated by Zawed. The Supermarine Sea King article was promoted to Good Article status on 22 December after being nominated by Amitchell125.
