Thank you sj! I have been using the WP:GLAM along with work that the British Museum (Liam Wyatt) has been doing in this area. Efmcleanckm (talk) 18:08, 23 September 2010 (UTC) Setting citation style for museums and archives
The Library WikiProject may be interested in the above; so will the GLAM wikiproject: ok as of 10/8/2010- here is where we are with our citation style for external links pertaining to WDL / Partners:
Efmcleanckm (talk) 13:17, 13 October 2010 (UTC) External link style commentsBe careful with right-to-left text when pasting in a line -- doublecheck that it comes out the way you intend. Explain that you are linking to full online versions of the source material. That's not normally what people link to, and it's a wonderful part of the WDL. If you're going to include mention when there is an audio recording of a page's text, do it for all materials -- and clarify that audio of a curator's notes, not audio of the piece itself.
When adding general further reading or primary source material rather than a cite for a specific fact, you don't need to include a "Retrieved on" clause. If you were citing a specific datum from a curator's comments, then a "Retrieved on" would be appropriate. –SJ+ 21:19, 29 September 2010 (UTC) LOC ContextFor topics such as Naxi scripts, where the LOC has an entire collection, it helps to provide some context for a specific WDL entry. For instance, there is already an external link to a page describing the LOC scripts collection (which doesn't link to the gorgeous WDL piece!). If you can put those two refs into context, it will help readers find what they want right away, and make better use of the WDL work. –SJ+ 21:24, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Gregorian calendarI wanted to let you know I reverted your EL addition at Gregorian calendar only because the document to which you linked is in Spanish; being a non-English text, it can't be expected to be a lot of use to readers of the English wikipedia; it would be fine to add on the Spanish wikipedia, though. carl bunderson (talk) (contributions) 23:24, 16 October 2010 (UTC) FormatHello again! Yes, you should add this to the GLAM wikiproject talk. Cheers, –SJ+ 01:50, 20 October 2010 (UTC) * World Digital Library presentation of original language title or translation of title. Helping to build the encyclopediaDear Efm, If you would only take another minute to add context when adding a link, your contributions would be vastly more helpful and illustrative. For instance, your link on the Gregorian calendar page:
A footnote in context is more useful than a raw external link, and with it you are adding more meaningfully to the encyclopedia. Making wikilinks out of proper names and significant concepts likewise helps people find this article when browsing related topics. In most cases, the linked LOC page already has good text introducing the link, so you don't need to do a lot of new writing yourself. Regards, –SJ+ 02:14, 20 October 2010 (UTC) External link answerHello. You have a new message at Wikipedia talk:Advice for the cultural sector's talk page. World Digital Library add like linksI would just like to point out that your edits of this nature are being reverted because peole think there adds...I have fixed a few to removed the personal and instructive dialogue. This would not be appropriate as per Wikipedia:External links. So i will help fix them were i can before there deleted because they are useful. Hope we did not loose to many to people who did not see the value of the link and just saw the wording. Moxy (talk) 01:39, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
