Hi, the following user user:49.142.69.113 has continually been vandalizing wikipedia by deleting large portions of articles such as "Southern China Airlines" and "Emirates Fleet". Despite several warnings they have continued to do so and should be blocked.~~Notme7 (talk) 12:27, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
Notme7, hello. I see that this IP is now blocked, so this looks as it is resolved.
Hi DJ! I noticed that you were the file uploader for some images of album covers (namely the three Djesse volumes). I'd like to upload an album cover image for an article I just wrote, but I don't know how to properly upload it with the free use declaration and ensure that everything is both legal and in line with Wikipedia's guidelines. Is there anywhere I can read that would explain that upload process, or would you be willing to give me a few pointers? Thanks so much, Noahfgodard (talk) 21:08, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
Noahfgodard, the album cover should have no more than 0.1 megapixels, but if the image is over that a bot will reduce the size for you. Just uploading the image as is will be fine, but if you have a image editor I find that reducing the size to around 310 by 310 pixels usually gets the file small enough without removing too much quality.
There is more information about acceptable uses of non-free images at WP:NFCI, which states that album covers can be used in the article for the album, but only in other articles where there is critical commentary on the album cover. In this case you can freely use the album cover in the infobox etc.
When I upload I use Special:Upload with the template {{Non-free use rationale album cover|Use=|Source=}} (with the parameters filled with the appropriate information) as the summary and select "Album or single cover" (under non-free then under covers. The option is about half way down the option list) as the Licensing option. More information on the parameters for the rationale template can be found at the template. Hopefully that is useful. You can read more about using non-free content at Wikipedia:Non-free content. Happy editing (and uploading), Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions21:45, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Please examine Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WhatsApp University, article created by an editor you have blocked as a sockpuppet. I am asking for your technical opinion, ideally at the discussion, over hether this should be deleted "because the editor was in vioation of his block". I am not seeking to influence your opinion in any way, and am content if you choose not to offer one. FiddleFaddle16:07, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
Timtrent, hi. I see that the CSD was contested by another (non creator) editor. However, they have withdrawn their contest. The AfD can be closed early if it meets one of the speedy deletion criteria and I would say that this article meets WP:G5. I'll delete it under this and close the discussion. Request for the Extended-confirmed-protection of the Wikipedia page: Kim Soo-hyun
The page Kim Soo-hyun has been under constant disruptive editing from few hours. I request you to change the protection level of the page. Please let me know if my request is legitimate or not. Thank you. Revolutionery (talk) 04:08, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Revolutionery, the disruptive editing seems to be from one IP address. In this case it is better to block the IP (for violating the 3 revert rule), as I see one recent constructive edit from an IP address.
I would warn you that there are limited exceptions to the 3 revert rule. Unless your reversions can be exempted under these exemptions, you have broken the rule as you made 5 reverts in a 24 hour period on that page. Violating 3RR (shorthand for the 3 revert rule) can lead to a block of 24 hours for a first time violation. I do understand why you reverted these edits, as they add a likely copyright violating image to the article, but you should mention which exemption you are claiming when reverting for the 4th or more time. In this case I'm just going to advise you about the 3 revert rule. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions12:27, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

62.42.55.149 just started editing at the same article as the last Vodaphone Spain block evader. You blocked them before [1] so I'm bringing this directly to you. It looks like they were also active in September at 62.42.55.183, and elsewhere in the range before that. Bri.public (talk) 15:34, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Hey Dreamy Jazz, hope you're well! I just saw your note regarding to the SPI case after I blocked Locky1986(talk·contribs·block log) for disruptive editing and personal attacks. I noted it on the SPI subpage but if you need to amend or change that block I'm fine with it. Thanks! -- LuK3(Talk)13:05, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
LuK3, I saw both the block and the note. Thanks for blocking so quickly. I don't think I will need to amend or change the block, unless TPA or email needs to be revoked later down the line, but thanks for letting me know that your fine with the block being amended. If they request an unblock, the tag on their userpage should be noticed and will direct reviewing administrators to the SPI.
Respected admin, I Muftiaz Minhas Raza 2 (talk) 12:02, 6 October 2020 (UTC) want to let you know that the article on both of them is short as they are holders of higher offices of both the nation till the article of them need to be updated.

Hi Dreamy Jazz. You deleted Filadelfo Rangel with the message: Mass deletion of pages added by Lujaraga26: Created by blocked user (WP:G5) in violation of their block. A new page Filadelfo Rangel (footballer) created by Lujaraga2605 has appeared. I assume this is the same sock but can you check? Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 00:21, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
I don't mind much whether these categories are kept or deleted. Most of them are too narrow for my tastes, but I guess there mat be a case for keeping them.
However, the immediate issue is that per WP:REDNOT, these page should not be in a non-existent category. Those of us who work on cleaning up Special:WantedCategories have just had a mountain of work pilled on onto us by what seems to me to be an incomplete response to a sockpuppet.
If you choose to restore the category pages, it looks to me likely that these are Drones creations:
BrownHairedGirl, I'm happy either way, but I'll go around and mass rollback. I wanted to leave this to regulars with Special:WantedCategories as they would have a better idea around whether each category should be recreated. However, I will go and mass rollback the additions of said categories, due to your comment that they are probably too narrow. Thanks for letting me know and posting about this. Happy editing, Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions15:59, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Dreamy Jazz. There aren't many of us working on SWC, so doing this w/o admin tools would have been onerous.
These niche categories have been appearing at SWC for a few months, so hopefully the eviction of these socks will put an end to it.

I saw the thanks. You are welcome. If this person does turn out to be a minor and manages to get unblocked, I recommend someone with experience helping younger editors shepherd him - or her - for a few weeks. That person will not be me. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:01, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for the initial cleanup here. I was in the middle of making an AN/I report for the disruption on Talk:DJ Malyk which I was able to abort before hitting "Publish."
I think you missed one IP though. He edited a previous incarnation of DJ Malyk on October 21 according to the filter log. Ironic, if he hadn't triggered the filter log, I wouldn've never known. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:39, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Actually, that wasn't the one. There must've been a timing issue since one of the ones on the SPI page, I think 182.186.32.239, didn't have the strike-through. It does now.
Hmm, based on the still-visible-to-mere-mortal-editor interactions with Wim Walker under its various names,[4] it looks like this SPI from two months ago will need to be folded into the one I just opened, today's has the older sockmaster. I'll put a note on today's SPI page saying so. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:54, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Smart move making that filter private, now I can't see the edits when it's triggered. Oh, by the way, I emailed you what "smelled funny," feel free to pass it on to other admins if you think it will help. It might also help create another edit filter to draw attention where attention is needed. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:42, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Yup, I can see it. The comment about private logs creating log entries that I can't see the "details" or "examine" buttons for, don't quote me on that. I think I saw it somewhere. I do know I frequently run across log entries where the "details" and "examine" buttons are missing, I just assume it's because it's a private log. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:05, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Menaria Rahul, these messages describe the state of the article (and are not error messages). They don't necessarily need to be removed and should remain there as long as they remain relevant for the article. This includes issues around editors editing the article whilst they have a conflict of interest, the issue that article reads like an advert and that the subject may not be notable for an article. You will need to explain why you think these don't apply instead of just removing them/asking for them to be removed. You could suggest changes to the article to address these issues. The page is protected because these have been removed many times recently. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions11:45, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
OK this is weird
A new editor mentioned you by name on her talk page.[5]
This user has a fascination with bunnies. Is seem to recall someone being blocked in the last month or two for WP:NOTHERE or WP:CIR-related reasons who also had a fascination with rabbits. No clue if it's the same person or not, but the mention of your name by a "new" editor got my attention. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:39, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
Hey, I have read the article but I don't find wrong or wired in this article.
Please help me to remove this message or please tell me how can I remove this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Menaria Rahul (talk • contribs) 17:23, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
Menaria Rahul, you will need to find multiple independent and reliable sources to ensure she meets the notability guidelines and propose these are used in the page on the talk page. The article needs to be written from a neutral point of view (for example "It is devoted to promotion of local arts, culture, fine and classical art forms and give it a global stage." is written like an advert), so suggesting changes on the talk page by adding {{Edit semi-protected}} with the changes to ensure it is neutrally written will help address this. It won't be removed until the issues are no longer present, so they will need to be addressed for them to be removed. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions18:00, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

They shut down my arbitration request and wrote it's "Cadenza related"... it's not! I gave a whole list of articles proving I'm being stalked, and they just shut it down saying it's boomerang from out Cadenza argument, it's not! Maxim.il89 (talk) 23:07, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
DJ, just wanted to note that Maxim.il89 has had another, shorter block imposed on them so when that expires, the partial block you placed on them will be lifted. At least, that's how I understand it works right now. LizRead!Talk!00:30, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. I just saw the block as you posted this. I think it does remove the partial block and reinstate it with a full block, as the block summary says "changed block settings" so it seems to have modified the block modification I made.
I'm also fine with the reduced length, as I simply added the case requests page to the already existing partial block to prevent further reverting of clerk actions. The length of the block itself was not important, just that it stopped the immediate edit warring. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions00:48, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
I've revoked their TPA for the duration of the block as the vandalism they were previously doing continued onto the talk page. It wasn't bad necessarily, but the vandalism moving to the their talk page suggests that TPA is not needed for this block. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions12:28, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

I request that you ask the arbitrators to allow me another 300 words. I haven't written the additional material and will only do the review if the extension is granted.
Robert McClenon (talk) 00:54, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
I'd support such an extension, since User:Robert McClenon in their post could only ping me. Not enough space for clarification or sources while dropping a sub-ANI low-level associative smear. An extension surely would allow them to provide ArbCom Case-level contributions.</cycnical>. -DePiep (talk) 01:18, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
Sandbh created a complete list of the seven related ANI's (ok), now in their section [6]. IMO it would be helpful and clarifying if this list is replacing/added_to the early list by Case initiator CaptainEek (as Sandbh asked themselves). However, the suggestive descriptions then be removed. Just #, link, date, title maybe. BTW, as it is now: since Sandbh added their own tenacious descriptions, the post should be within wordcount. -DePiep (talk) 15:17, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
As far as I can see only one link they have suggested to be added is not already in the list. However, this link is in the statement by the filer, so I don't think it's necessarily needed there. The rest of the changes are to add descriptions, which isn't needed in that section. The sections which are linked to should speak for themselves. I won't be copying the changes over for them, and their comments including the suggested change will count towards their word limit. I posted a disclosure on my user page at User:4thd.au, and used the template {{Paid}} for this purpose.
Since I got permission to use Human Appeal Australia for their data from an appointed representative of Human Appeal Australia, please return back the article "Human Appeal Australia" and the logo file that was deleted.
4thd.au, in regards to the logo / permissions ticket, I cannot undelete files on commons as I am not an administrator there. The quickest way would be if you reupload the image to commons which was sent in the email using commons:Special:Upload. Then email back or ask the person who emailed to email back with the URL of the uploaded image. A user who handles image licensing will then tag the image as being released.
As you said in regards to the text of the draft article I created it was deleted for being promotional and also a copyright violation, the following was sent by the representative of Human Appeal Australia to give permission to use any material relevant to Human Appeal Australia website & social media
OK thanks for looking into this.

4thd.au, I see you re-created it in mainspace. I significantly re-worded the draft to make it less promotional and moved it to draft space as it does not have enough sources to meet the general notability guideline. You will need to add multiple independent and reliable sources so that this organization meets the notability requirements before the article can be published. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions02:32, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
The C of E, the request was declined by the arbitrators (independently of whether you wanted to withdraw) + I'm not sure if there is anything you would like me to do re your statement that it was predominantly a clarification request. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions00:32, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
The arbitrators reviewed the topic ban at your request, as you start your statement asking for it to be removed. The arbitrators discussed this, and decided that they were not prepared to lift the topic ban (per the arbitrators discussion). Although you do say it was primarily a clarification, any request for the removal or reduction of the topic ban is an appeal which if declined leads to the 6 month minimum appeal time. I had also confirmed that the minimum time limit applied on the clerks mailing list (which includes arbs and clerks). Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions17:20, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Deepfriedokra, only CUs can make checkuser blocks and the block has to be marked as a checkuser block for it to be one. As I (the blocking admin) am not and have never been a CU, this is therefore not a checkuser block. Hi, Dreamy Jazz, I wanted your help in a fixing a template. See Template:User autoconfirmed since. I want some modifications in it. I tried to do it but didn't succeed in it. Can you fix it as:
If we select format=since or format=(empty) then 'This user has been an autoconfirmed user since 2 years, 8 months and 3 days.(verify)'
If we select format=became then 'This user became an autoconfirmed user on 19 October 2018.(verify)'
If we select format=both then 'This user has been an autoconfirmed user on 19 October 2018 (2 years, 8 months, 3 days ago).(verify)'
Thank you for helping. I'm not very expert in editing or creating templates. However, I want to ask a question that from which essay can I learn to edit and create the basic to advanced templates? For me, they are too complicated. Can the above template be modified by using {{#if: function or it wasn't possible. Thank you. EmpireASTalk!06:11, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
Empire AS, the above template was modified using switches and ifeq. If "if" was used, the code for the template would be much longer. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:ParserFunctions is a documentation page which has been useful for me. It is in depth and also relatively clear. I personally just created templates using more complicated parser functions to learn about them. Templates can also include calls to lua modules, which are commonly used in complicated and highly used templates. Its a more versatile language than parser functions, but still has its limitations. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions09:33, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
I'll try to learn about templates from the page you suggested. However, I was trying to fix that template by using #if function and perhaps due to that I didn't succeeded. Thank you very much. EmpireASTalk!09:40, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
I saw you focus on tagging for WikiProject Biographies. I just wrote John Eyre (British artist). He shares the exact same name with John Eyre (painter). Normally I start a project assessment tag on the talk page, and someone from the project will assign it a category. I don’t how to deal with two people with the same name. Is there is a way to differentiates them on the project's template? Thanks, Jacqke (talk) 13:24, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Jacqke, if you are talking about the listas parameter, WP:LISTAS describes best practices for listas parameters. It says that disambiguation in the title of the page shouldn't be included, so both pages having the same listas (Eyre, John) is perfectly fine. If you are talking about something else than the listas parameter, do expand on what you mean. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions13:34, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello Dreamy Jazz, since you are both a Jazz fan and an AfC reviewer, I wanted to kindly ask for your advice in regards to my The Jazz Groove draft. I basically want to ask what your preliminary/informal thoughts about it are?, and particularly if you have any suggestions as to where I can find better sources? I already went through the possible sources list found at WikiProject Jazz, but found very little of use so far. Thank you for your time, History DMZ(talk)+(ping)08:01, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
History DMZ, Hello. My source collection methods are usually a mixture of google, google scholar (for more academically pointed subjects) and my university online library. Most of the sources I find come from google in some way. I find using double quotes (to get google filter out pages without this exact phrase) and different variations of keywords gets me the sources. Also going through the first 3 or so pages is usually as far as I travel. Google scholar may not be helpful here, as I can't see this station being subject to a peer reviewed paper. If you've tried these places I can't think of other places to search. Hopefully you find other places to find better sources if I've not been able to help.
In regards to the draft itself it looks good. A few suggestions are its probably best to have good sources for the last sentence of the history section, as words like "hand-selected" and "spanning eight decades" are best sourced. I would also say that there are probably not enough sources.
Dear Dreamy Jazz, I have been editing the Wikipedia since the past few months. I have done many edits and want to do more and more in the future. I want to apply for the rollbackers rights but I'm unaware of what Vandalism is. Now, Could you please teach me. It would be a great experience to be your student. Thank you. Happy editing! – Kamilalibhat (talk) 14:02, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Kamilalibhat, I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'm happy to adopt you. I may not get back to you for a while, but I'll answer questions when I see them.
Vandalism, as described at Wikipedia:Vandalism, is editing (or other behavior) deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project's purpose. In other words vandalism is a deliberate action which attempts to damage Wikipedia, such as replacing a page with crude words or inserting nonsense. Not all disruptive edits are vandalism, but all vandalism is disruptive editing. Disruptive editing is editing which disrupts or attempts to disrupt Wikipedia, and may not be intentional.
The reason why rollback is used for vandalism, is because the reason for the revert is so clear that an edit summary is not needed. Rollback does not grant the user anything more than a button which allows the user to revert with one click without an edit summary. Therefore, rollback should only be used in cases where the reason for the revert is very clear or if you made the edit (there are other exceptions, but the general rule holds).
If you want to gain rollback rights, see it as a tool and not a status. Its important to note that rollback is granted when an editor shows they have need for it. I note that your request was declined at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback § User:Kamilalibhat. I suggest joining in with Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy as it is a structured and useful course which helps trainees learn about vandalism. If you complete the course, you will be almost certainly given rollback rights if you ask.
Kamilalibhat, you can ask one of the instructors listed at Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy/Instructors who have space. The users with space for more students are Cassiopeia, Thanoscar21 and Pahunkat. Post on one of their talk pages to ask to be one of their students. They will guide you through the process if they accept you. If you don't want to be a part of that, you could actively revert vandalism for a while and then request the rights. Rollback is not required for vandalism reverting, so you can monitor changes in Special:RecentChanges and then revert vandalism. You can also use Wikipedia:Twinkle, which is a javascript tool which allows you to revert editors and then leave them a warning. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions18:10, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi DJ. On this case page, the "prior resolution" list, which I think comes from the original filing, is incomplete and a little bit inaccurate (e.g., it describes a sub-thread I started in an existing thread as a new filing by me). What's the easiest way to go about fixing it? Can I edit the case page directly (I assume no)? I could give you what I think is a complete list and maybe you can review it and update the list as needed? Or I can include a complete list in my evidence section (I'd rather not use up words and links on that though)? Thanks, Levivichharass/hound18:33, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Levivich, hi. This list is from the case request. You are correct that you can't modify it, as I see it as a archive of the case request. I'm not sure of the process around modifying it for factual inaccuracies or otherwise, so I've sent a message to the clerks mailing list to discuss whether anyone (even me) should be adding in post case request. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions18:54, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Levivich, in discussion on clerk-l several arbitrators don't see much point in changing that section. As the arbitrators don't really at all consider this section after the case request is opened, this means that adding fresh links or making corrections are very unlikely to be considered by the arbitrators. They suggest that if you think the links are needed, the arbitrators suggest adding it to the evidence subpage. In this case the arbitrators have authorized the clerks the authority to grant extensions for non-parties to 1000 words and 100 diffs (doubling what non-parties would normally have). If you do decide to include these links and are coming close to the limit you can ask me directly or email clerks-llists.wikimedia.org for such an extension. From the user talk page history of that page the account "ZOKIDIN" was confirmed as a sockpuppet of Никита-Родин-2002. This means that technical evidence confirmed without a reasonable doubt that the account was a sockpuppet of Никита-Родин-2002. Hi, I had a question. I want to translate some articles from Persian that are not available in English. Does this cause a problem or not?And how to declare who I have translated؟؟؟--IEureka • 📃21:08, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Excellent and thank you I apologize.why I can not create an article right now Is it related to access cut or not?And when can I create an article? I mean in the main space, not the draft.--IEureka • 📃21:55, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
IEureka, the reason you cannot yet create articles is that your account is not yet 4 days old. Once your account is 4 days old (so on the 27th of January) you will become autoconfirmed, and then you will be able to create articles in mainspace. In the mean time you can create articles in draft space like you have being doing already, or your own userspace. Once you become autoconfirmed, you can then move your draft articles into mainspace. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions22:49, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the help, I can create an article after 4 days.I'm sorry, I was editing Reza Bahmaei article, but there is nothing in his name. There is a name in the info box.--IEureka(talk)22:59, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
IEureka, articles for creation can take a while. As the mainspace title is protected, an extended confirmed user will only be able to publish the draft article. Most AfC reviewers are extended confirmed, but due to the backlog of submissions, it may be a few months before it is reviewed. As I do not understand or read Persian, I won't be able to verify if the sources support the article, so I won't be able to review it. PeeJay, hello. Global locks are basically the equivalent of a block of an account but for all WMF wikis. To go into more detail, it prevents an account from logging on any wiki and therefore also prevents the account from making more edits. Global locks do not block the IP of the sockmaster and only affect the account.
The IPs used by an account can only be viewed by checkusers. Checkusers do not publicly disclose IP addresses they find using their tools per the privacy policy, but they will block IPs and IP ranges without disclosing which sockmaster they relate to. With cases like this, it is possible that the user is on a highly dynamic IP address or they are using different networks. This means it could be a game of cat and mouse with blocking IP addresses. It is also possible that a checkuser has blocked the IP address or IP address range used by the sockmaster following your request. If a checkuser has actioned your request, they won't necessarily respond with "I've blocked the IP address", as doing so would allow someone to correlate the times between their recent IP address blocks and when they said "I've done that" to work out which range the sockmaster uses. Hi, hope you are well. I wanted to ask a question that is is possible to use #ifexpr for a range of value. For example, if we select:
{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Artices with long short summary}}=1000–3000|Yes}}
Another question is that is it possible to get to values from the #ifexpr function. For example
{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description}}>5|Yes|{{Not done}}}} and get both 'Yes' and 'Not done' as a result. Thank you. Empire ASTalk!08:17, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Empire AS, the first wouldn't work like that as the - sign would be interpreted as a subtract, and other symbols similar to the negative sign are not recognized by #expr / #ifexpr.
You could achieve this by having two ifexpr's. One checks if the number is above 1000 and the other checks if the number is below 3000. If both are true then it is in the range of 1000-3000. If either is false, then it is not. So you could do {{If both|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Artices with long short summary}}>1000|true|}}|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Artices with long short summary}}<3000|true|}}|in range|not in range}}
In regards to the second question, the ifexpr function is defined by {{#ifexpr: expression | value if true | value if false }}. So the only things that are returned by the ifexpr is true or false (and by extension the it returns only the values you include after the expression). #expr just returns the result of the expression, if you are wanting the raw output. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions11:56, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
By using the first, wouldn't we get the values less than 1000 and greater than 3000? For the 2nd part, what parser function can be used to get 2 resulting values? Thank you. Empire ASTalk!12:15, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Empire AS, no. The first ifexpr checks if 1000 is smaller than and the other checks if 3000 is greater than the pages in the category. So in other words, the first ifexpr checks if the number of pages in the category is above 1000. The second checks if the number of pages in the category is below 3000. True is returned if the expression is true and nothing is returned if it is false. If both checks if both are non-empty strings. Therefore, if both are true, then the first parameter after the expression in {{if both}} is returned which is "in range" (in range as both conditions were true). Otherwise, "not in range" is returned as one was not true. You can test that out. Currently, the expression returns "not in range" as the category has no articles. If this was the case, it would have returned "in range".
I'm confused. See my sandbox (in progress). There I want 2 results, 1st Done and 2nd 0. Although I've got the first but I don't know how to get the 2nd value. Thank you. Empire ASTalk!12:32, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
so what you want instead is {{If both|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description}}>5000|true|}}|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description}}<7000|true|}}|in range|not in range}}Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions12:39, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Still there's a mistake. Some text 'in range' is written multiple times. Moreover, what about 2 outputs? Is it possible to get an extra output showing the range of like 5000–7000. Thank you for helping. Empire ASTalk!12:54, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
The category contains 6,857 pages which don't fall in any other parser function except the first as 6857 is between 5000–7000. Then why 'in range' is written multiple times? Thank you. Empire ASTalk!12:58, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Empire AS, I realised that "|R" is needed in the pages in category magic template, as the result returned usually includes a comma. The ifexpr conditional does not like commas, so using the R option removes the commas. It should now work, as I have updated this in your sandbox. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions13:12, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
The now corrected code is {{If both|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}>5000|true|}}|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}<7000|true|}}|in range|not in range}}Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions13:16, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Can it be changed to {{If both|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}<7000|true|}}|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}>5000|true|}}|in range|not in range}}. Morever, can an extra column of range can obtained? Thank you for fixing that? Empire ASTalk!13:23, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Empire AS, the order of the parameters in {{if both}} does not matter. You can swap it around if you want, as long as you leave the expression itself unchanged (as that modifies the output). I'm not sure what you mean by an extra column of range, but if you want to have multiple ranges to check, just copy and paste the code to where you want and change the lower and upper bounds for the range to what you want. For example {{If both|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}<7000|true|}}|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}>5000|true|}}|in range|not in range}}{{If both|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}<5000|true|}}|{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Articles with long short description|R}}>2000|true|}}|in range|not in range}}
I think that you didn't get it. I meant to say that the above code returns us a single output (for example, X) if in range. But is there any way to get 2 outputs (like X and Y)? The above code gives a single output but can it provide 2 outputs in 2 columns? For example, if it returns the 1st output X then 2nd would be Y (both in separate columns). If 1st as A then 2nd should be B. If first is M and then second as N. In other words, I need 3 columns, first 'Category', second 'Status' and third 'Range'. If the value of 2nd column due to 1st, then the value of third column should also change according to the 2nd. The first column provides the value of 2nd column but not of 3rd. How can we get a 3rd value in 3rd column that would change accordingly to 1st and 2nd? Thank you. Empire ASTalk!04:17, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Empire AS, I see what you mean now. If you want to have the values in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd column depend on each other, then I think the way it can be done is having the code in each column for the row. You then customise the output for each, ensuring that the the status and range columns have the same category in the check. However, this would mean a lot of duplication and a long file. There is another way you could simplify this. You could create another page which acts like a template, such that you have a definition of a row as a subpage which is transcludable. You can then transclude the subpage for each row, defining the category name and ranges. That would be complicated to set up as a subpage, but would save the amount of raw wikitext on the page. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions10:17, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Empire AS, using the code from there {{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Pages with broken reference names|R}}<3000
: |{{#ifexpr:{{PAGESINCAT:Pages with broken reference names|R}}<1000|{{done}}|{{half done|No backlog}}}}|{{notdone}}}} It displays Not done when the count is at or above 3000, it displays No backlog when the count is at or above 1000 and below 3000, and it displays Done when the count is below 1000. You can add further ifexpr's to get more statuses. To change the range, change the number for each expression, but the order of the numbers has to be biggest to smallest left to right in the expressions (i.e. 3000 then 1000, or 500 then 50). I thought that I'd not disturb you again but the issue rose again. First, see my sandbox, in the citations section you may see an error. All the 4 lights are visible but only red light was made to be visible above 20. Other thing, can you please remove the word 'complete' from Template:Backlog progress bar small and add a new parameter for the width of bar like 80% width or 30%. Empire ASTalk!04:54, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Empire AS, the error looks to be caused by your use of "≤". The "≤" symbol is not recognised by expr. To achieve less than or equal, you need to use "<=". This is because, as meta:Help:Calculation § Operators, numbers, and constants says, less than or equal is defined by an less than sign followed by an equals sign. It does not list the combined unicode symbol. When replacing "≤" with "<=" in your sandbox it fixed the problem.
In regards to the progress bar, I have added that functionality and hidden the "complete" from the bar. To define the width, when transcluding the template add the parameter "width" with the width you want. This can be a percentage, but can also be in pixels or em. What is a "need for the tools"? I think that if you think you need the tools, you maybe shouldn't have them. I think that what we should be looking for is editors who are willing to use the tools prudently.
Robert McClenon, my description of that is pretty vague even in my own mind. What that statement means for me is that the editor should use the tools once they get them for the benefit of the community and also in an area which they have experience in.
I agree that an editor who thinks they need the tools may actually not be suitable, but editors with experience enough for RfA should know and understand what being an administrator is. The saying "A good leader is someone who doesn't want to be a leader" is relevant, and I would agree that an overly confident editor wanting the tools wouldn't be a good fit. However, those who don't want to be administrators aren't going to want or use the tools (and for someone to feel pressured for something they don't want to do isn't good). There is a balance of want and not wanting which I think is what makes a good administrator. My description however is primarily "my life would be easier if I had the tools" / "I could do this if I have the tools".
The second point about experience is to ensure that the area they initially will work in is somewhere which they understand and so moving from no tools to tools isn't a big jump. This has the benefit of ensuring that the community can see they understand the particulars in this area, so can be trusted to do good.
Perhaps what I actually mean is "will use the tools to benefit the community". This is also vague, but I hope conveys that an editor should find use for and want to use the tools in a way which will be a benefit, but not overly want them. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions22:07, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
I would say that I'm probably not the best person to nominate, as I have never had an actual RfA run with myself as a nominator / co-nominator (although there is one not yet transcluded). However, I am open to such a proposition if you would like me to. I suggest looking for editors / admins at Wikipedia:Request an RfA nomination if you would like to pursue it. Hello Dreamy Jazz, I just came across the list of adopters at WP:CVUA and saw your name there. So I just wanted to ask you that about my adoption. If you are willing, so please ping me on my CVUA page. Thanks! –EditorThanos (talk) 17:14, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
I opened discussion about the very late evidence and you immediately after closing the discussion for rebuttals: [7] Could you explain how me and other editors are supposed to rebuttal when the evidence was posted 30 minute before closure? --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 02:51, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Supreme Deliciousness, I note that the evidence phase has since been re-opened for two more days. I do agree that the evidence was late, and it is good that you can now respond on the evidence subpage to the late evidence. As I had no instruction otherwise, I closed the evidence phase as scheduled. Perhaps adding in time or a procedure which allows responses to evidence added close to the deadline is needed. Hopefully the next few days will be enough to respond to the evidence added close to the deadline. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions14:47, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Supreme Deliciousness, I hadn't until now. However, an arbitrator confirmed that I should ask you to shorten your evidence. If you would like to request an extension, then request at the /Evidence subpage or email the arbitrators directly. Otherwise, please shorten your submission. There have been some replies, however, no decision on your request specifically yet. It looks like the phase will remain open for another day, but it is late where I am so I am off for the night. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions00:06, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
