Don't know if you've seen this, but USGS topos clearly show the proposed location. The "DOQ" tab shows what was actually built before the recent projects. Wow, this is extremely neat! That was just what I have been looking for and I would love to add them. How exciting! I have a few old Memphis maps here that show the planned route but they are copyrighted. I did not find any free map material yet to document the planned route and the proposed exits and the exact plans for the exits. The yellowbook map in the article is from commons and a nice old document but does not show so much detail. The map you linked to would illustrate perfectly the citizens protest paragraph as it shows exactly how the road was planned through Overton Park, the core problem the citizens had. I will try to include that in the next few days! If you are interested in the topic, feel invited to improve, correct and illustrate the article. All help is always very welcome, especially as I am not so familiar with maps and their copyright issues. Mallory-Neely House

The house isn't itself listed on the Register. I've run into plenty of instances where buildings in historic districts were said to be "listed on the Register" by third party sources, but they're not really: they're contributing properties only, and not separately listed. Not all districts are this way — some districts include properties that are themselves listed, but most districts don't have any separately listed sites. However, as a contributing property, it's definitely NRHP-related; {{Infobox nrhp}} has an option in its documentation to make it an infobox simply for a contributing property. Furthermore, I'd advise that you not say that the house is on the Register, because it's not listed by itself, but it's a bad idea not to say that it's part of the Register-listed district. I think it would be a bad idea to add Category:National Register of Historic Places in Tennessee to it, but as (if I'm guessing rightly) you're writing articles on other houses in the district, it would be a great idea to have a category just for the district, and then to make that category a subcategory of the NRHP category. Hey thanks, I did not know that you could specify that a building is a contributing component of a historic district. Cool, I use the nrhp infobox now. No, I do not mention that the building is in the register, that I did not find it in the database made me suspicious, that's why I did not categorize it as NRHP nor used the infobox at first. But I do mention that it is a contributing part of the Victorian Village and mention that the district is in the NRHP. Shelby County NRHP

I'm a little confused: were you attempting to fix coordinates that placed sites where they weren't, or were you attempting to fix bad formatting? Because of what you did, I thought I'd check the coordinates, and I found several sites that were placed where they weren't, so I'm fixing those. Hey, if you map the Shelby County NRHP sites at Google Maps, some of them are located far off east in Middle Tennessee. The sites I am talking about are all the ones that have a longitude of 84 west.

I tried to fix them using the geo coordinates bookmarklet that is located at Wikipedia:Obtaining geographic coordinates and some were off considerably to the west. There are two geo coordinate tools, actually, one gives out the coordinates in the decimal format (00.000000 -00.000000) which works fine and is reliable. The second tool puts out the coordiantes in deg|min|sec format (00|00|00|N 00|00|00|W) and has a flaw, it is off one degree and a half at times in the longitude. As the coordinates in the NRHP list follow the latter format I intended to fix the coordinates in that format. But when I used that tool, Graceland, for example, ended up somewhere in Arkansas. It must have something to do with the rounding of the degrees and I tried to figure that stuff out but did not find a solution yet.

You see, my intention was to reduce mistakes, not to produce more, that's why I reverted my edits to the status before and checked out the code of the bookmarklet. doxTxob \ ^talk 02:00, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can enter coordinates into the NRHP infobox in either decimal or DegreesMinutesSeconds format. See coordinates section of wp:NRHPmos and/or documentation of template:infobox nrhp. If you have correct coordinates to use, please do try to put them into the articles about the individual places and also into the county list-article which covers them (within List of RHPs in TN). Burkle Estate

There is absolutly no evidence to support the Slavehaven claims. The citations used are amateurish and based on recent folkore. They would not be accepted by any History department for a term paper. The claims are "lies" used by wishful dreamers to obtain government grants. If you have any good evidence then cite it! A similar effort was made by the owner of the Hunt Phelan home. Fortunately, the Wall Street Journal smelled a rat and sent an investigator who exposed these fraudulent claims for what the are. Every legitimate local historian refutes these claims. Even Arthur Prince, an African American Memphis historian had shown how absurd these claims are before he died about ten years ago to the Shelby County Historical Commission. Also, please do not use the recent book by Rushing. She is not an historian and the book is full of gross errors. If you still have doubts about the Burkle Estate or the Hunt-Phelan house, check with thee director of Special Collections at the Univerity of Memphis library.

Memphis neighborhoods: Blinghampton

May be a delay in my research. Housing troubles, little time for the library lately.

Are you a contributor to the Tennessee project mentioned in the template? I'm wondering how to add neighborhoods to the list. I've noticed that even neighborhoods mentioned in existing wiki-articles are not represented, and I've thought of a few which seem to be notable, also not mentioned. Regarding spelling, I was recently told by a minister working in the area that residents of east Binghampton, maybe east of Scott Street,spell it with the "p," while west of Scott, they spell it without the "p." Will also try to source that.

That is too funny, people cannot just spell it the way they want. ;-) The "official" spelling of Binghampton is with a "p", though, says the authority for that, the USGS (link is in the article). Man, that is Memphis, everyone just does whatever they want. As a matter of fact, I like to call it "Blinghampton", with an extra "L". Update: the propriator of a non-profit in west Binghamton says Binghamton was once an incorporated town, and that there was once a lawsuit concerning the "p." Binghamton had grown up around a boxcar factory on Broad. It seems the citizens of west Binghamton, primarily white, blue-collar, working-class, didn't want their Binghamton spelled the same way as east Binghampton, which was, and is, primarily black. I'm not sure, i may have some of the facts reversed, or simply wrong, but i'm told it was all in the daily papers: in those days, the Press-Scimitar as well as the Commercial Appeal.

You are welcome! I drive through side streets all the time and I usually do not forget the general view of a streetscape if I have been there, so I remembered the general area where the photo was taken and the address was relatively easy to find.

Something completely different that might interest you or not: After all that writing on Wikipedia in the past I could take one big step forward regarding writing. For more than a year now I am a regular writer, photographer and Memphis correspondent for the most popular German language Elvis Presley print magazine Graceland, for which I cover the Elvis news from Memphis, plus contribute a multipage story (2-6 pages, with my own photos) of limited actuality that usually requires some amount of research on the internet and/or in the field. That is an interesting coincidence. I read you message yesterday evening and guess what -- among other things -- I had done that day! Taken photos of the Lauderdale County court house in Ripley, TN. I went through Covington and drove around the Tipton County court square -- without taking photos, though, because I was short on time. I am planning on doing that on one of the next weekends. Hello! I am working on an article here at enwiki about Greenwood Cemetery in Nashville, and also an article about its founder, Preston Taylor. 2019 US Banknote Contest

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.
