Looking for some direction.

I just wrote this to someone clled "N" who responded to a comment I made on a page called Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Gabrielsimon/Evidence. I wanted to get your take on this. I have been watching this sad saga unfold like a slow motion car crash for several days now. Beyond the obvious squabble that has been going on, I have come to some conclusions (based strictly on my own personal observations) that much of this GS, Ketrovin, Khulhy, Gavin the Chosen (and who knows how many others) is a cry for help from a lonely person. I also feel that many of the typographical and grammatical errors are contrived so as to foster a sympathetic response. I am curious as to what lengths the editors and admins are willing to go to in "babysitting" this individual. I am a new user myself, but is it in the best interest of WP to coddle a person who seems to go out of their way to be obtrusive? I wait, with interest to see how the situation plays itself out. There are a few admins here who I have made positive connections with, and I am inclined to copy this memo to their talk pages just to get some outside opinions.

• Well it all comes out in the wash, as they say User talk:Gavin the Chosen. My opinion is hes a nut-job. He goes from user to user like a sad sack looking for help. "Whats a sockpuppet?" "Can you help me?" "I got an email from a friend who told me..." Its all very tawdry and pathetic. Sad. Well sorry to take up your time with this, I just saw a pattern and wanted to report it. Mr. Gavin should be very glad I'm not an admin, because quite frankly I wouldn't have the patience for these shenanigans. Anon block

The block period was indeed excessive, and came in the context of dealing with other things. At the least I should have left a template:block message on their userpage, though there was none at the time. I had thought it odd that an anon would use their first edit to involve themselves in that particular way in an active and controversial edit war. A difference between vandalism and POV at that point seemed rather slight. While I was rather busy with other things, I was aware that others make a habit of perusing the block list for anomalies, and any excessive block terms. -St|eve 07:36, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

AOL Block Pattern

Hi -- hope you are enjoying being an admin. However, I am an innocent victim of your vandal crusade. When you block an AOL user -- even if they have a Wiki account -- you block all the editors that are randomly assigned that IP number. I've been hit by three different blocks in less than 24 hours, yours being the latest (see below). As you know, I am a serious contributing editor and, as I like to sneak in 30 minutes to an hour of Wiki work several times during the day, these blocks are becoming very irritating. It is a software problem, according to User JRM, and doesn't have much priority with the designers. If you are interested in this problem, please take a look at my user page -- User:WBardwin/AOL Block Collection. Any influence with the powers that be would be appreciated. London, Ontario

Hello Dmc! I was wondering if you could take a look at this article (London, Ontario)and see if you think some of the recent editing by an IP account constitute a POV edit (particularly the Transportation section). If so could you revert to a previous edition? The Ip account appears to have an axe to grind. If you do end up reverting, I'll add the Bill Brady material I edited in there today. Hello again Dmc! I was wondering if you could take another look at the article London, Ontario. There is an anon user who keeps removing an entry under "Notable Londoners" Bill Brady. His reasoning for doing so is very weak and I have provided what I feel is adequite proof on that articles talk page to back up his notability. Hm. Hm. Sorry to take so long to respond, but I've been distracted. Well, I can sort of see the other point of view, but not the vehemence. Having taken a look at the article (which you've written!) I'm convinced he's certainly notable enough to warrant an article here. I do, however, think it is a different question whether it warrants a mention in his home town's article. If it were (sorry to say) New York or Paris or somewhere like that, I'd say that we have to have some kind of procedure for pruning the less notable ones, even ones with articles. In this case, though, I see no reason to remove this bluelink from a relatively small list, when there are still red links there. Sorry to respond so slowly to your response! I just saw you pop up on my watched page and thought "oh damn, I asked him to look at that..." :-) Well thanks for your opinion, I've had some feedback from others as well. The anon who keeps removing Brady from the list of notable Londoners seems to have a personal axe to grind. London is a small town and its quite possible that his obstinacy stems from personal contact of some kind with Brady. Theres an extensive discussion regarding the entry of a single bullet to that part of London, Ontario article. Feel free to add a comment there, I was trying to tell the anon user that the concensus was that the Brady bullet should stay, and he countered that although everyone but himself was agreeing with the inclusion, that wasn't a concensus. FilePile

First off, thanks for finally putting the FilePile VFD out of its misery. Secondly, User:Kelly Martin mentioned having the issue of whether or not the article should be "mediated" rather than relisted on VfD. Since I haven't been incredibly active on Wikipedia in the last year or so, I'm not entirely sure what this entails. I know that I and a few others are interested in having the article be dealt with according to proper WikiProcess, so please advise us how we can do this. I am still committed to having a reasonable discussion of the merits of deleting the article take place -- if we were able to manage one on the article's talk page, and I informed you of it, would you be willing to relist the article and keep tabs on the voting/discussion? I feel that what this article (and the potential future VfD) will need most is a watchful eye, rather than responsible Wikipedians who are just passing through, and if that watchful eye were an admin it would help incredibly. Title dispute

As the previous edit warring was partly an outcome of the disputed title, I would like to suggest to add a notice on the title dispute, on top of the {{twoversions}} box, to let readers know what's happening with the lists. That's actually part of a set of naming conventions, and the disputes involved from how the naming conventions should be intepreted and enforced. WP:RM would not be desirable. There is currently an ArbCom case in process, and parties involved are supposed to refrain, though largely on a voluntary basis, from making relevant changes. The notice I suggested doesn't look good to me either, but the information on the disputes over the scope and title has to be delivered to the readers. — Instantnood 06:50, August 20, 2005 (UTC)

Re: the block you placed at Xed (talk · contribs). I can see there are 3RR violations, but did you really see him violating his personal attack parole? To be honest, it surprised me that Xed managed to stay cool such a long time against so many 'new' editors attacking him and raking up old (and irrelevant) stories. A block of 72 hours for losing your temper while standing up against a bunch of sockpuppets might be a bit excessive. — mark ✎ 13:12, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think I would have been justified blocking for 72 hours or more regardless ofthe parole, actually. I mean, I counted, I think, more than 20 reverts on August 18. Simply unacceptable. Also, I interpret parole as meaning even the slightest offense merits blocking. I think using edit summaries to call voters vandals and trolls, when I don't see him as being anymore in the right than the other party (and really, I don't see any "vandals" here) certainly qualifies. Could you settle (or prevent) an argument?

Despite the trolling of -Ril-/Ron (above), there is a genuine attempt to settle the problems over at Authentic Matthew. Unfortunately, we are being hindered by Melissadolbeer and her 'husband' Poorman, who are interpreting a 'keep (no consensus)' as 'keep the article as it is - don't substantially change it - and never merge nor redirect'. As you closed the VfD, I wondered if you might be willing to set the record straight, and save a lot of agro. An 'authentic' miracle seems to have occurred. It looked like WWIII with Melissa and her 'spouse' Poorman interpreting 'keep no noconc' as 'keep this version' and never change', and then -Ril- showing up. However, after I warned her about accusing me of being a sock (of -Ril-'s, as if!), she/they indicated a willingness to cooperate. Peter Kirby, and SimonP helpfully weighed in with real scholarship (destroying the credibility of the article)- and 'Poorman' agreed to a final merge with 'Gospel of the Hebrews', which Peter is re-writing. So, a solution. Although, I'd not be surprised if we havn't heard the end of this. Anyway, you did ask. FilePile Help Requested

I am sorry to report that there are more problems with the FilePile article. Edits and images are being reverted back and forth, regardless of discussion that is supposed to be taking place. I feel like a pest, it is ashame things cannot be dealt with without supervision. User Xed is repeatedly reverting to his own version of the page, without verify'ing. FilePile update

Members of FilePile are continuing to deface the article, including adding made-up screenshots [2] and [3]. One of the screenshots has "Xed eats Balls" on it.

FilePile users are making disingenuous edits (see my post here about it). In particular, they are claiming it doesn't exist.

My reason for notability are here.

Hello there brave editor! Would you take a look at Theodore Streleski, and if you feel the article has been improved, would you remove the conform to higher quality tag? I don't want to do it myself, it would seem conceited somehow, to me at least. I helped save that from VfD awhile ago, and a bot renewed the tag, reminding me I had wanted to do some polishing and further editing. So I went and did it. I have been a snake owner and amature herpetologist for over 30 years! What kind of critter do you have? Well it's a California Kingsnake, an albino one, too. White with yellow speckles. I got him (Sneaky) for a birthday present a few years back, he's probably 4 or 5 years old. Unfortunately I've now moved to a dorm hundreds of miles from home, and the snake stayed there. The picture will have to wait :( In other news, this is totally off topic, but a lady bug just landed on my computer screen. Maybe I should close the window... Queen snake is a really impressive article for being so new! I remember the days before school when I had the time to just write a brand new article on something. Try to see if you can add some more wikilinks to the middle. And it looks like the capitalization of the name is inconsistent. But the content is pretty polished already. Good one. • • That got alot of help from Gdr. Whenever I use a certain taxobox (which I think he created) it seems to attract him to give the article a polish. He's damn good too! Those kingsnakes are sneaky, and any Lampropeltis snakes are expert escape artists. I had a corn snake that could get out at will it seemed. He was nice and tame, but succumbed to a brutal poodle attack. I wrote the Calabar Python article too, and Gdr help shine it up. Interesting snake, and probably my favorite pet snake. It had a pretty easy going..ummm...personality (for a snake). Whose feeding yours while your away? And can you not have it with you now that your more settled in? Hamster Sandwich
    • I think someone who's been used to a light bulb keeping his world at 85-90 degrees his whole life wouldn't take kindly to the plane trip (they don't condition those cargo holds at all, even for pets!). My mom's going to do it (she wasn't happy about it), but he only eats about every 2 weeks. Incidentally, he got his name because when he was little, he used to try sneak into our clothes, up my pant leg, or down a sleeve, when I held him. I think he was trying to get closer to body heat, but it was pretty funny. A brutal poodle? I'll have to remember that. Unfortunately, I'm still pretty clueless about snakes as a topic.       • Well before I hit the sack, I'll just say I travelled from Vancouver to Toronto by Greyhound bus, with a Boa Constrictor wrapped around my arm or neck for most of the trip. Human Rights Servey on Wikipedia (The final post of I_sterbinski)

Dear all,

Wikipedia was recently a subject of intensive research of an huge international human right organization. A team of people from different nationalities and ages were acting on Wikipedia for 20 days, investigating previously noted anomalities of Wikipedia free editing and forming a final report, which (between the others similar reports) will later be a guide to all future moves of the organization concerning Wikipedia. Acting under an account of a real person, their privacy is to be held private. Therefore, very few private information will be revealed.

Also, this is a result of the lack of final possition of the organization concerning Wikipedia and human rights, which was still not formed.

re:vfd templates

Thanks. I didn't change anything. After a study of the tangle things are in at the moment, I realised that the problem was some older-than-PfD debates that have not subst:d the template get confused. They follow the new link to Pages for Deletion, think "hey, where'd my deletion nomination go" and make an accidental fork under "Pages for Deletion" when the original is still under "Votes for Deletion". A matter not assisted by where the edit links on WP:VFD point(ed). And my personal problem was needing to fix my autovfd script to the new name. Anyway, thank you for unprotecting them. It's already reprotected. Which has meant that...its edit-rate has gone through the roof! Anyway, thank you for the very kind message. I am within a few days of the quasi-magical 3 months now, and I'm not aware of any impending personality changes occuring before the end of this week. At least a few editors would still want me to have been around for rather longer, though. I'd like to be able to help out more widely than I can at present, so, if you think I'd stand a decent chance, we could give it a whirl.
