User talk:Dominic/Archive4Looking for some direction.I just wrote this to someone clled "N" who responded to a comment I made on a page called Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Gabrielsimon/Evidence. I wanted to get your take on this. I've been somewhat disturbed (probably inordinately so) by the discussion surrounding this controversy. Hamster Sandwich 23:36, 8 August 2005 (UTC) In response to your question at "Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Gabrielsimon/Evidence", I copied this from Gabrielsimon's user page. Quote "It has been said that I have a very open mind as well.... I have been called inhumanly patient... and inhuman. If you want to know more, ask. I'm on MSN, YIM and AIM. Leave a message at my email address to learn what the IDs are." I have been watching this sad saga unfold like a slow motion car crash for several days now. Beyond the obvious squabble that has been going on, I have come to some conclusions (based strictly on my own personal observations) that much of this GS, Ketrovin, Khulhy, Gavin the Chosen (and who knows how many others) is a cry for help from a lonely person. I also feel that many of the typographical and grammatical errors are contrived so as to foster a sympathetic response. I am curious as to what lengths the editors and admins are willing to go to in "babysitting" this individual. I am a new user myself, but is it in the best interest of WP to coddle a person who seems to go out of their way to be obtrusive? I wait, with interest to see how the situation plays itself out. There are a few admins here who I have made positive connections with, and I am inclined to copy this memo to their talk pages just to get some outside opinions.
I have written an article about this poem which you had transwiki'd and listed on VfD. I would be grateful if you could have a look and see what you think. Capitalistroadster 10:00, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
ThanksYour gracious comment is greatly appreciated. Believe me, I am grateful for the oppose votes as well as the support votes. They tell me that other users like you really care about the project and that I have some areas that I need to work on strengthening. Gotta run, but take care and stay in touch. Best, Lucky 6.9 18:47, 9 August 2005 (UTC) And thank you yet again! I trly appreciate your support and faith throughout this messy, seven-day ordeal. I promise to use the new Powers of the Cabal wisely and to ask before hitting the history eraser button on the borderline cases. :) I think I'll stick with obvious vandal stubs for now. All the best, Lucky 6.9 04:11, 10 August 2005 (UTC) Func's RfA :)Dmcdevit, thank you for your non-thinking vote! ;-) Please never hesitate to let me know if you have concerns with any administrative action I may make. :) Func( t, c, e, ) 18:07, 10 August 2005 (UTC) Thanks for the spelling correctionUg. I don't think that I was the first to delete it, but I can make it go bye-bye again. That other mess was supposed to be Asian? My poor compooter no like it. :^) Thanks for the help. I'd be glad to help with the cleanup duties...thanks for the suggestion. - Lucky 6.9 07:08, 11 August 2005 (UTC) Anon blockThe block period was indeed excessive, and came in the context of dealing with other things. At the least I should have left a template:block message on their userpage, though there was none at the time. I had thought it odd that an anon would use their first edit to involve themselves in that particular way in an active and controversial edit war. A difference between vandalism and POV at that point seemed rather slight. While I was rather busy with other things, I was aware that others make a habit of perusing the block list for anomalies, and any excessive block terms. -St|eve 07:36, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

AOL Block PatternHi -- hope you are enjoying being an admin. However, I am an innocent victim of your vandal crusade. When you block an AOL user -- even if they have a Wiki account -- you block all the editors that are randomly assigned that IP number. I've been hit by three different blocks in less than 24 hours, yours being the latest (see below). As you know, I am a serious contributing editor and, as I like to sneak in 30 minutes to an hour of Wiki work several times during the day, these blocks are becoming very irritating. It is a software problem, according to User JRM, and doesn't have much priority with the designers. If you are interested in this problem, please take a look at my user page -- User:WBardwin/AOL Block Collection. Any influence with the powers that be would be appreciated. In the meantime -- if you are hanging around -- please release your block. WBardwin 06:18, 16 August 2005 (UTC) Your user name or IP address has been blocked by Dmcdevit. The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Donald R. Alford". The reason given for Donald R. Alford's block is: "dotsix sockpuppet, vandalism". London, OntarioHello Dmc! I was wondering if you could take a look at this article (London, Ontario)and see if you think some of the recent editing by an IP account constitute a POV edit (particularly the Transportation section). If so could you revert to a previous edition? The Ip account appears to have an axe to grind. If you do end up reverting, I'll add the Bill Brady material I edited in there today. I left a note on the articles talk page to justify the readdition of that person. Thanks! Hamster Sandwich 21:51, 16 August 2005 (UTC) Hello again Dmc! I was wondering if you could take another look at the article London, Ontario. There is an anon user who keeps removing an entry under "Notable Londoners" Bill Brady. His reasoning for doing so is very weak and I have provided what I feel is adequite proof on that articles talk page to back up his notability. If you would kindly take a few minutes to intervene and perhaps leave a comment on that page? I will look here for a response so as to preserve continuity. Thanks! Hamster Sandwich 21:17, 18 August 2005 (UTC)
For you...Something pretty to look at. A bright yellow flower. You deserve it! Hamster Sandwich 22:37, 16 August 2005 (UTC) Yes, Thank youYes, I did see your suggestion about a admin position. I'm thinking seriously about it, but it does seem self serving to have my ease of access as the primary motivation. And, quite frankly, I work in such obscure corners and on topics of such minority interest that I doubt few editors know I exist. So, give me a little time and we'll talk again. I do appreciate your willingness to nominate me, however. It's heartwarming. Best wishes. WBardwin 09:28, 18 August 2005 (UTC) First off, thanks for finally putting the FilePile VFD out of its misery. Secondly, User:Kelly Martin mentioned having the issue of whether or not the article should be "mediated" rather than relisted on VfD. Since I haven't been incredibly active on Wikipedia in the last year or so, I'm not entirely sure what this entails. I know that I and a few others are interested in having the article be dealt with according to proper WikiProcess, so please advise us how we can do this. How do we enlist a mediator, and what does the process of mediation entail / result in? Thanks! — Adam Conover † 06:05, August 19, 2005 (UTC) (Also, I noticed your "caused by both sides" note on the VfD page. I did my best to deal with what I saw as poor Wikiquette on Xed's part properly, but perhaps I did not do as well I could have. If you have any advice for how the situation could have been handled better, I would appreciate it -- it was the worst clash I've ever had with another user on the 'pedia, so it left me at a bit of a loss. Thanks again. — Adam Conover † 06:31, August 19, 2005 (UTC)

Title disputeHello. Thanks for unprotecting the lists of companies and the airports of the PRC. As the previous edit warring was partly an outcome of the disputed title, I would like to suggest to add a notice on the title dispute, on top of the {{twoversions}} box, to let readers know what's happening with the lists. I've made the request at the talk pages (companies, airports). — Instantnood 09:20, August 19, 2005 (UTC)
Your block of XedRe: the block you placed at Xed (talk · contribs). I can see there are 3RR violations, but did you really see him violating his personal attack parole? To be honest, it surprised me that Xed managed to stay cool such a long time against so many 'new' editors attacking him and raking up old (and irrelevant) stories. A block of 72 hours for losing your temper while standing up against a bunch of sockpuppets might be a bit excessive. — mark ✎ 13:12, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

The VFD vote did not show consensus for transwikification. Please consider voting for undeletion. Thank you. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 18:09, 22 August 2005 (UTC) Could you settle (or prevent) an argument?Despite the trolling of -Ril-/Ron (above), there is a genuine attempt to settle the problems over at Authentic Matthew. Unfortunately, we are being hindered by Melissadolbeer and her 'husband' Poorman, who are interpreting a 'keep (no consensus)' as 'keep the article as it is - don't substantially change it - and never merge nor redirect'. As you closed the VfD, I wondered if you might be willing to set the record straight, and save a lot of agro. Our attempts to explain are being ignored as biased. --Doc (?) 07:45, 23 August 2005 (UTC) Cancel that, peace seems to be breaking out --Doc (?) 00:13, 24 August 2005 (UTC) An 'authentic' miracle seems to have occurred. It looked like WWIII with Melissa and her 'spouse' Poorman interpreting 'keep no noconc' as 'keep this version' and never change', and then -Ril- showing up. However, after I warned her about accusing me of being a sock (of -Ril-'s, as if!), she/they indicated a willingness to cooperate. Peter Kirby, and SimonP helpfully weighed in with real scholarship (destroying the credibility of the article)- and 'Poorman' agreed to a final merge with 'Gospel of the Hebrews', which Peter is re-writing. So, a solution. Although, I'd not be surprised if we havn't heard the end of this. Anyway, you did ask. Thanks for silencing Mikefar, that and Tomer's explosion at Melissa seem to have been the tipping point. --Doc (?) 09:08, 26 August 2005 (UTC) Protection on VVAW articleI realize that you are not supposed to protect a selected version of an article, but the whole reason for my RFP on the VVAW article was an attempt to deal with a belligerent anon user. TDC 18:36, 23 August 2005 (UTC) FilePile Help RequestedI am sorry to report that there are more problems with the FilePile article. Edits and images are being reverted back and forth, regardless of discussion that is supposed to be taking place. One editor is calling other editors (including me) who had been slowly working on the page "dishonest." Any assistance would be welcome. --tranquileye 21:05:07, 2005-08-24 (UTC)
I feel like a pest, it is ashame things cannot be dealt with without supervision. User Xed is repeatedly reverting to his own version of the page, without verify'ing. Also without discussing things to be added, as suggested to him. Again claiming "This contains music. Copyright issues are ignored, and most of the files are technically illegal." Thank you again for all of your help with this issue and again sorry to be a bother. --Flaunted 17:46, 26 August 2005 (UTC) RFA thanksThanks for supporting my request for adminship. Having someone assume that I was already an admin is one of the best compliments to receive at RFA. :) Coffee 07:03, 25 August 2005 (UTC) FilePile updateMembers of FilePile are continuing to deface the article, including adding made-up screenshots [2] and [3]. One of the screenshots has "Xed eats Balls" on it. FilePile users are making disingenuous edits (see my post here about it). In particular, they are claiming it doesn't exist. My reason for notability are here. I expect the new VfD will go the same way, ie loads of FilePile users, new users, & anonymous users voting for delete. - Xed 09:03, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for protecting FilePile. The VfD has been going calmly and this will help. --tranquileye 18:49:00, 2005-08-26 (UTC)

A-ha! An admin!Hello there brave editor! Would you take a look at Theodore Streleski, and if you feel the article has been improved, would you remove the conform to higher quality tag? I don't want to do it myself, it would seem conceited somehow, to me at least. I helped save that from VfD awhile ago, and a bot renewed the tag, reminding me I had wanted to do some polishing and further editing. So I went and did it. I don't even think it's technically a stub anymore. Oh BTW, thanks for your lovely memo on my talk page. I'm sure you're a very nice person too! :-) The real, Hamster Sandwich 06:52, 27 August 2005 (UTC)
I have been a snake owner and amature herpetologist for over 30 years! What kind of critter do you have? I had to get rid of my beautiful Calabar Python and two Russian Sand Boas (still have to write that one, Eryx militaris), when I moved to a smaller place with a roommate. :-( But you must send me that picture! And if you'd like, take a look at the article I contributed yesterday Queen snake. Thanks Dmc! Hamster Sandwich 07:18, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

re:vfd templatesThanks. I didn't change anything. After a study of the tangle things are in at the moment, I realised that the problem was some older-than-PfD debates that have not subst:d the template get confused. They follow the new link to Pages for Deletion, think "hey, where'd my deletion nomination go" and make an accidental fork under "Pages for Deletion" when the original is still under "Votes for Deletion". A matter not assisted by where the edit links on WP:VFD point(ed). And my personal problem was needing to fix my autovfd script to the new name. Anyway, thank you for unprotecting them. They can reprotected again if that is their usual state. -Splash 08:48, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
