Edzell Woods

Hey, I'm new to actively editing Wikipedia so thought would send you a message through your talk page to get used to using this! Just wanted to clarify regarding Edzell Woods. For address/postcode & MSP it's Angus but services & MP it's Aberdeenshire (although services from council are minimal at best!). It's a borderline village so doesn't neatly fit into one place - for that reason I tried to add as much info/links as possible to the page. Please let me know if it's done better in a different way! Thanks for your message, and apologies for the long delay in replying – I've not been around for a while. Thanks for creating the article on Edzell Woods – I'll have a closer look at it when I have a moment. It is important that we categorise places according to their actual location. Many places in the south of Aberdeenshire have DD postcodes and post towns in Angus – see for example Inverbervie or St Cyrus – but this only indicates the delivery office through which their mail is routed, not the actual location. I think it is partly to avoid such confusion that postal addresses now do not include counties. And representation by MPs and MSPs rarely coincides with area boundaries. It might be worth clarifying in the article that the River North Esk in this vicinity forms the boundary between Angus and Aberdeenshire, and that Edzell is on the Angus side, Edzell Woods on the Aberdeenshire side. --Deskford (talk) 15:12, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for joining in on the annoying edits to the Electronic music article. If you have not already noticed for yourself, the editor involved is certainly trolling for a block, with dozens of nonconstructive edits either invoking very flaky "sources", or inserting his own unsourced opinion contrary to cited reliable sources.—Jerome Kohl (talk) 22:54, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Greetings! The discussion is at Talk:Perth#Requested_move_1. Prior to this, we had a disambiguation page at Perth, with the two cities that could lay claim to primary topic status at Perth, Western Australia and Perth, Scotland. The move request was closed with the outcome to move Perth, Western Australia to Perth but to name Perth, Scotland explicitly in the hatnote so there would still only be a single extra click to reach the page on the Scottish city. It was a controversial closure for several reasons, and it was overturned, reviewed and much discussed, but eventually the original closure was endorsed. I didn't agree with it, but I had to accept it as consensus, and this is why we have the slightly unusual form of hatnote. Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Infoboxes advises "...if you are intending to apply one of the templates to an article about a scientist, academic, or classical composer, musician or singer, first ask on the Talk page." People have strong views for and against infoboxes, so it's best not to add or remove them without obtaining consensus first. --Deskford (talk) 16:26, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Deskford. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Island names

I have started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Article titles#Tautological/names that the subject isn't for island names and have also created User:Crouch, Swale/Island names#Scotland. There's in interesting explanation here that it was the OS that introduced the name "Insh Island". For User:Crouch, Swale/Risga do you have a source for what that name means? although that is just "Risga" on OS? Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:24, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
