Amakuru: My change was from "pictured" to "diagram shown". These differ substantially, as the former conveyed that the actual specimens were pictured (hence the error report to which I responded).
When you changed "diagram shown" to "diagram pictured", it was not a reversion (in either a technical sense or a meaningful one).

Having focused on the main page's images for years (and routinely participated in TFA image curation and issue resolution, at a coordinator's request), I can assure you that "shown" is our longstanding alternative wording, used when specifying a picture (e.g., "map shown", "satellite image shown", "video shown", "depiction shown", "frontispiece shown", "schematic shown", etc.) – not just at TFA, but across the main page.
For various reasons, I haven't been very active recently. (I responded to this ping by Floquenbeam.) Perhaps the usage of "shown" has declined amid my absence. If so, I seriously doubt that its omission was calculated. (If you're aware of a discussion in which such a decision was reached, please cite it.) In any case, the practice isn't something that I invented or imagined.

The difference is primarily one of style. It's linguistically clumsy to state that a picture is pictured, as discussed in the past (sometimes amid edit requests).

As noted above, I don't consider your change a reversion, as the result differs materially from previous revisions. You're entitled to disagree (and I sincerely appreciate your willingness to message me with this request, in spite of that view), but there's no need to address me as though I'm a newbie.

Second, at the risk of alienating you both, I think the argument about "pictured" or "shown" is about 98% pointless. They're both fine, and arguments that either one is better than the other aren't really persuasive to me. Rather than argue about what's marginally better, what edit(s) count as technically a revert, and what's technically standard practice, why not just say "Isn't it odd, the silly things that can sometimes come between people Floq respects", and leave it at whatever wording is there now (I purposefully haven't looked, although from context above I gather David would be the lucky one). When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our Hacking Sunday at Prime Produce in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. It is intended primarily for technical contributors, though newcomers are welcome as well! The event runs for the whole day, though you are welcome to come by for as little or as long as you'd like.
A documentary filmmaker will be in attendance, working on Rabbit Hole, which aims to document Wikipedia's community to showcase how our network tackles important questions about how history is recorded. They will be in attendance to film snippets of this gathering for the documentary. It is completely optional to be a part of the film and there will be protocols in place if you wish to not be filmed. This is the second event of the series, following the inaugural event at Civic Hall in July. Led by a 9-person live band demonstrating Caribbean and Latin musical genres, we'll engage with efforts such as WikiProject Latin Music, and will encourage editing on both English and Spanish Wikipedia. All are welcome, and newcomers and aspiring editors are especially encouraged to attend. Registration via Eventbrite is required for building entry, and is also encouraged on the event page on Meta.

This event, held by our chapter in collaboration with Pratt and Girls Who Code, will be our third annual celebration of Wikidata Day. It will feature spotlight sessions, lightning talks, and the customary Wiki-cake, while those unable to attend in person will be able to watch a livestream.

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs.
