Proposed deletion of Enrique Mendiola on the Tagalog Wikipedia

Hi, Davey2010, and thank you for your contributions to the Tagalog Wikipedia. I notice that you proposed the deletion of the article Enrique Mendiola, citing WP:DEL-REASONS 4 and 14.

After a further look at the subject and the available sources I've come to the conclusion that the subject is notable enough, and as such I have removed your PROD and deleted the relevant page on the Tagalog Wikipedia where you proposed deletion. I have taken the liberty of informing Buszmail that the article does need further cleanup to avoid this situation. In addition, I have added a few other sources that should affirm the notability of the subject.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you feel that this was done in error and we can discuss further. Thank you. --Sky Harbor (talk) 03:56, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sky Harbor, Having looked at the sources I still believe the subject is non-notable for the following reasons;
All in all I'm not seeing any notability here, I also very much disagree with your AFD deletion reason ("The topic of the article is clearly popular; the user is also warned) - Not that I would've done anything anyway but warning me for what .... PRODing an article ? .... Using PROD for what it was intended for ? ... No idea there,
Anyway in short thank you for your message but I have no intention of PROD/AFD/CSD'ing further - I prodded it, you disagreed and that's cool, It's not my homewiki so you may have other notability criteria's I'm unaware of or are just simply more lax than here, Anyway have a great day, Many thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 17:09, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Davey2010. First, please note that I had no intention of "warning" you about anything. Machine translation to and from Tagalog is notoriously unreliable, and I don't recommend relying on it for any serious translation work. The word babalá, which I used in the edit summary you translated, also means "advise" (though I admit I could've used other terms in Tagalog/Filipino which could've clarified that for non-Tagalog speakers), which was my original intention with the message above as you are not in violation of any Tagalog Wikipedia policy. I hope this clears that up.
Now, I agree that the article needs significant work but I nevertheless disagree that the subject is not notable. One source that treats the subject as notable is Eminent Filipinos by Hector K. Villaroel, published by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, which has a section on Mendiola. I also want to posit that the second volume of the Spanish-language Galería de filipinos ilustres (Gallery of Illustrious Filipinos) by Manuel Artigas will have a section on Mendiola given his stature both as an educator and a politician, but this volume is not available online and is only accessible through microfilm from my old university's library. This video from Mighty Magulang, the historian Mona Magno-Veluz, summarizes more information about Mendiola, including how he was elected to the colonial-era Philippine Assembly.
Granted that the Philippines lacks sources which affirm the current implementation of WP:GNG, but that does not mean that the subject itself isn't notable because there is a lack of easily-accesible reliable sources. However, I do agree with you that this article really needs work, and there are sources which shouldn't be there which should be deprecated when possible. I believe those sources are out there and have also advised Buszmail of such accordingly. That said, your contributions are welcome on the Tagalog Wikipedia, and if you need any admin actions taken over there, please feel free to let us know anytime. --Sky Harbor (talk) 18:33, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Sky Harbor, Ah okay my sincere apologies I perhaps should've realised translations weren't going to be 100% accurate (not the first time Google Translation has messed up)
Anyway I absolutely agree with you the majority of sources aren't going to be online but I guess I was just for some reason expecting more, I also completely agree the article does need work but as I tell everyone "Article issues aren't a reason for deletion" :),
Thank you for the offer but I'll step back as I don't speak Tagalog and I don't want to hinder yours and Buszmail's efforts there, Thanks so much for your branch it's greatly appreciated :), Have a nice day/evening, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 21:07, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
