Today I finished the last one of them. Now on 23rd I am off to Abkhazia for three weeks. During this time, I will be gone compleately (and I mean compleately, as it is questionable whether they have computers there let alone internet). If you want to give me a good welcome-back surprise, let me know that the Kryvyi Rih Metrotram has now been selected as an FA. How you are going to do this I do not know, but do take more than one user along, you know which site I upload photos from, its attribution everywhere except those not taken by him, (fair use in that case). Do check every single refernce you can find, and particulary those that i gave, if you get the train wikiproject people to come over then that's even better (in the end I do not really mind if the FA is going there). That's it really, it is a challenge, but even if you do not attain FA, then at least go for everything else, GA, DYK etc. 15-го вернусь...--Kuban Cossack00:25, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DDima, I am clearing out a backlog at CAT:NC, and noticed that you retagged this image. Is it ok if I delete it now under CSD I9, or will you link it in the article to the new name at Commons which is slightly different? Nice pic by the way, I'll check out the article after I am done with the backlog. DVD+ R/W22:04, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It looked like a pointless list to me, with no hope of being expanded or even linked from any useful article. Add it to Kuchima's article, if you must. Adam Bishop06:22, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is a note for members of the Eastern Orthodox Project: Since the project's main page has been converted to a portal-style box format, each of the boxes is actually its own page (you can see the page outside its box by clicking the 'Edit' link on any often the section boxes on the project page, which takes you to the edit page for its contents). Because of this, updates to individual box contents will not necessarily show up on editors' watchlists, if you've only got the main project page watched.
In order to keep up to date with all updates to the Project and its pages, I'd recommend adding each subpage to your watchlists. These are:
As I have been absent for over three weeks there might have been instances where I could have missed something serious, what is going on with our images on the commons? What other issues were there? --Kuban Cossack15:52, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks. There are not very many pictures of Ukraine and Kiev that we can freely use on Wikipedia, so it is a great help. Thanks, —dima/s-ko/17:14, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Image sources
Wikipedia policy is to require to show image sources for every image. Source is very different from copyright. Source is a website/book.journal/etc. that the picture was taken from. Copyright is special rights that author has in that picture and is briefly described in image tags such as {{PD-old}}. However, without a source one cannot verify copyright claims. Who made the picture? Who owns it now? Who owns the copyright? What are copyright terms? YellowDot00:50, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is wrt to images used. Can you ask the person writing the articles to either upload to commons in case he has permission to copy the images from the site or to delete them as it is a clear copyvio otherwise. BTW do tell the UK-wiki admin to take a serious tone with image lincenses as there are none at present whatsover. --Kuban Cossack16:53, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I did not answer right away, I did not have much time.. I'll ask the admin about the images. Its too bad they (on uk wiki) don't tag the images, because its much harder for us to find out about the image itself. —dima/s-ko/17:17, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have attempted to fully restyle the template to fully make it conscise both historically and geographically, maybe you can play around with content and format to give it a better appearance. (The old version was PATHETIC in every definition) --Kuban Cossack18:35, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I definetely think that it is time to make a good improvement on Kiev Pechersk Lavra, the best way to do this is to make it out of several smaller articles. Here is a nice reading material [1] for one of them. And I am in process of writing a nav template for it. --Kuban Cossack19:03, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think it is time to work on the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. We should have gotten to it long ago... Nice job on the template, but it'll probably take a lot of work to get rid of the red links, but it is definetely possible. I have a book about Kiev which has a lot about the Pechersk Lavra, namely the caverns. I will be busy during the week, but I will start creating articles in the weekend. —dima/s-ko/04:01, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thousands of fair use images at your disposal
Look what I found Большая Советская Энциклопедия. Thousands of 1970s images from the 3rd edition that can be uploaded under fair use for anything. Also right now I have the original 1950s 2nd edition of the encyclopedia in 50+ hardbacks with excellend PD images in them. Any requests? --Kuban Cossack13:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's great! I only have access to Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary, but do you have any images on the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, namely the Great Lavra Belltower? BTW, take a look at the article, I have just started on creating articles on the Lavra... Do you have any good DYK suggestions for the article? —dima/s-ko/18:13, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Integrity of wikipedia
Do you care that wikipedia should be carefully balanced and well resourced? Do you agree that it should be free of politics and original research. Do you want all of the other language wikis not to have any bias to them.
Then you can help by ending a wikicircus called Siberian language wiki. Not only is the language original research, that was synthetically developed by LiveJournal people, but its supporters use it as a political platform [2], [3] or complete disregard to other topics [4][5].
Hi, thanks for your interest in NKMZ. NKMZ is a Ukranian company. However, in the case of a company which does a significant amount of business in or with another country, the other country may be named in a category. Viz Rusal/Guinea and BHP Billiton/South Africa. Furthermore, NKMZ was part of the Soviet Union for 60 years, as it was formed in 1934. I wrote a note at Portal:Russia/New article announcements#November 16-30 to this effect on November 16. I would appreciate it if you would read that note, and then decide if NKMZ should be listed under Russia, and if not, to provide a reason why not. And as far as "the Ukraine" vs "Ukraine" is concerned, I would prefer not to get involved in international politics, and have experienced edits when having written "Ukraine" and when having written "the Ukraine". Thanks. --McTrixie15:16, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for uploading Image:Salhir River.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
Nice work implementing the former country infobox in the Carpatho-Ukraine article. It looks like you didn't have all of the syntax infomation available, so I suggest in future that you check here for the full blank syntax. There is more information on how to use this infobox here. Keep up the good work. - 52 Pickup17:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How about some 1950s photographs of Kiev... http://interesniy.kiev.ua/old/photo/kiev-54? I think PD-RUSSIA is applicable...barely, as they must have taken prior to the publishing of the album. Otherwise standard Fair-use. There is loads of vintage shots on that site. [8]. The other point is that my Hotel Ukrayina is now about 70% done. I could use a good reference or two, particularly for the Ginzburg house (its going to be a combined article), and some general proofreading. Also did you notice that Zoloti Vorota (Kiev Metro) was done ages ago? --Kuban Cossack00:52, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I have seen those photographs, although did not look at all of them, but thanks anyway. Here is a great site containing a lot of information about Kiev and tons of old photographs... Great work on Hotel Ukrayina!! It would be nice to have some interiour shots of the building, too bad I am not in Kiev. Perhaps I can ask my friends to take some shots but can't promise anything. I am sure that if we polish it up and finish it, we can get the article to Featured status :) Nice work on Zoloti Vorota (actually my favourite station)... BTW, take a look at how the Pechersk Lavra articles are turning out. —dima/s-ko/02:50, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Our stubs
They are considered for deletion, here, obviously vote accordingly, if it gets serious support we need to make it worthwhile keeping, so be prepared to create a load of empty articles for future lines, systems and stations. --Kuban Cossack23:06, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The reason I deleted those as linkspam was that they were created by someone who had done no edits on Wikipedia but adding linking to this one site, usually several on the same page. For undoubtedly the same reason this site already is on the Spam blacklist, meaning that pages with a link to this site cannot be saved. - Andre Engels14:16, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Question
Thanks for your welcome note. This might be a very basic question but as I am new to Wikipedia, how do I get to write all those personal information boxes that I see in other users' pages i:e "this user believes in this or that" "this user has visited so many countries", etc... I have looked in the tutorial and can't find the instructions. Kindly direct me.--Healkids 03:42, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
It's OK, I found it! thank you --Healkids16:12, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Merry Christmas
Hi! I just want to say Merry Christmas to you! Have a nice holiday time. If you don't observe this event then I hope you don't mind this greeting. :) - Darwinek19:21, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Lemkovyna (Lemkivshchyna), as well as Carpatho-Ruthenia, allways were parts of Rusyn ethnic terretory, not of the Ukrainian one. Indeed, the idea claiming that people living in these areas are part of ukrainian nation was born in 1930-s in ukrainophile groups (lead by Voloshyn)and were then used by the governement of USSR, in order to annex Carpatho-Ruthenia (or Zakarpattia, if you prefer). Between 1945 and nowdays, rusyn were massivly assimilated, so, nowdays, only a few people of Transcarpathia know about their true origins. Nowdays, the ukrainian state still doesn't recognise rusyns, which is against rights of national minorities... If we are talking about historical terretories, we can't say that these ones are ukrainian: it would be totaly untrue, since before 1946, only a few people claimed there to be ukrainian. Saying that Lemkivshchyna are part of ukrainian historical land is also not neutral, because it supports the ukrainian nationalist point of view, which claims that there aren't any rusyns in the world, but only ukrainians.
I think it would be better to restore my edit, in order to make the list of historical territories more neutral...--Rusyn20:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If we restore your edit, then it would not be neural as me other Ukrainians consider Lemkivschyna as Ukrainian historical land... —dima/s-ko/20:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You recently left a message at my IP saying you reverted some edits of mine. Could you please elaborate? Thank you. Cossack03:13, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As per this edit... The edit you made looked like vandalism to me, I mean, two parts were removed from the infobox and something else was written. I didn't know that a plural_slavic thing existed in the infobox and I just noticed what it does... I'll go and revert my edit. Sorry for my misunderstanding and С Новым годом! —dima/s-ko/03:21, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Pryvit. Xrystos razhdayetsia.
Thanks for your contributions to my bandura articles. By the way my father was born in Lubny and is also of Cossack background. Bandurist01:21, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Merry Christmas to you to! You're welcome :) I find many of them interesting and I would us to get some of them to Featured article status. The Bandura article could be featured with some more information and expansion. Also, the Persecuted bandurists article could qualify as a Featured list if we add some pictures, references, and info. Thanks for starting on the articles, there was barely an information about Kobzarstvo before you came.
Thanks for uploading Image:Andriyivskyi Descent Kiev Day.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECU≈talk01:52, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dima, please select the images for this article you think you could best use from: [9][10][11][12][13]. Tag the image the same way you would tag other images from this site (like you did for a Lavra image). --Irpen02:38, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On January 11, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article St. Cyril's Monastery, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.
Here is what I forsee of this check my new version of Zamoskvoretskaya Line and Kakhovskaya Line. I was wondering could you at least draw the maps for the lines, maybe with the detail that they are on the Moscow maps. Also can you file the official request for a wikiproject to begin... I will be on here for a good time and its all set in stone...BTW how do you do a peer review, because that's what I want for Saint Petersburg Metro... --Kuban Cossack22:01, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! I don't know if I would be any good on drawing the maps (I don't have any good programs, except for MS Paint...) But, I'll see what I can do. For Peer Review, do you want a [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Peer review|WikiProject Trains/Peer review] or a regular Wikipedia:Peer review? The instructions for the 2 PR's are basicly the same, just add the {{peerreview}} to talk, start the page with your comments, and add it to list of nominees page...
Well Eastern European people are not going to let us thorough, but with FSU it could be arranged. If we get enough people to show the diversion of the group ... i.e. Kober, Eupator and say Baku87 (provided they do not kill each). Who knows lets give it a go. Now then if anybody starts picking on the name then the defence is usual, if a country is able to call itself Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia then they have to let as Former Soviet in there...---Kuban Cossack22:23, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just a little update, I began actively lobbying people from all over wiki, particularly ru:Проект:Метро... see if you can get a few from uk... If all goes well we will have enough support.--Kuban Cossack14:47, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well given the reply we got already, we can give it a go and make it official... I will be in an on/off mode... so my best recommendation is to coordinate with User:Unisouth- founder of the Portal:London Transport on advice; and User:Camerafiend - a very special person - if you like the "father" of the idea (I cannot take that credit), it was him who created the original lines templates (which are becoming increasingly popular even amongst the western Metro systems), and who took off writing individual Moscow Metro stations. So get him to help you, and I will aid in format and actually expanding the articles themselves.--Kuban Cossack00:47, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I have already moved the pages to the Wikipedia namespace... I'll also set up an article rating system, so that the fall into categories like stub-class Metros of FSU articles... but will do that a bit later. I will also be somewhat busy (on weekdays). BTW, check the list of new Kiev Metro articles I have created. —dima/s-ko/01:22, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see your user name listed as a member of the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chicago. I do not know if you are aware that we are attempting to revive the CHICOTW. See our results history. We could use additional input in nominating future articles, voting on nominees and editing winning nominees. Should you contribute you will receive weekly notices like the following:
Last week you voted for the Chicago COTW. Thank you! This week Rich Melman has been chosen. Please help improve it towards the quality level of a Wikipedia featured article. See the To Do List to suggest a change or to see an open tasks list.
Good evening, DDima--thanks for wikifying the Bergthal Colony article. I noticed an extra "m" after "colony" but can only access the reference page now. Would you mind taking care of that?

Portal issue
First, congrats with the portal gaining featured status. It seems that a code problem emerged, and since this is not my strong area, I wanted to call you attention to it. It's just a blank yellow screen.--Riurik(discuss)03:02, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I use Firefox, and it never happened before. I guess since its not an issue anymore, and is not recurring, we can forget about it. Best, --Riurik(discuss)06:44, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Blue Harbor Resort
Please explain the display problems that you were experiencing on the Blue Harbor Resort article. I have used the "ImageStackRight" template for quite a while with no problems before this. I took the images and stacked them. Thanks! RoyalbroilT : C02:30, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dima, let me be first to congratulate you with this well deserved award. As you may know from the Order's statute, it can be awarded only once :). So, while I am sure you will have many more wikiawards, treasure this one especially! But seriously, allow me to say just one more time that we all appreciate your great work here and the leadership in the Ukrainian topics. Keep up the good work! --Irpen08:11, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know you do not like politics, but I was wondering whether you would care to comment on the dispute that is going on there. Ты мой и-мейл получил?--Kuban Cossack00:51, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
True that I don't like to get into political matters... but I have been looking at the topic from the side, but have not looked into it too much. I did recieve your e-mail, but sorry that I didn't answer.. I have some urgent things to finish (like translating Vorontsovsky Palace article) but will try to take a look at it and perhaps comment soon... —dima/s-ko/01:23, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dima, take my advise and continue staying away from political articles if this is what you want. Those article won't help you make new friends. --Irpen01:45, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Map of the Crimea-Area
Yes, I can do that for you, but it will take some time, --David Liuzzo 11:32, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Well, you would have to warn the user first.. Place {{subst:uw-vandalism1}} to yield a sort-of "first warning". If the vandal stricks again, place {{subst:uw-vandalism2}} for a second warning. Perhaps after the warnings, the anon will stop.. If not, place {{subst:uw-vandalism3}}, and the last time {{subst:uw-vandalism4}}. After his next vandalism after test4, notify the admins at WP:AIV. I hope that helps.. also, see WP:TUSER for more information about the warnings messages.. —dima/s-ko/21:33, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information but unfortunately he (she)does not have a user page..(of course!)is there anything else that can be done except of semi protecting the article? --Healkids23:12, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the user doen't have a user page, just create it, and you should place the warnings on the talk page of the user. Semi-protection should be done when there is multiple vandals, where blocking each of them would not help. Otherwise, just revert him every time, and notify the admins if s/he doesn't stop after repeated warnings. —dima/s-ko/23:39, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
