Your ribbon rack

You have such an interesting ribbon rack. I rarely see people with more than one Humanitarian Service Medal (although I'm used to mostly seeing it on Navy personnel, that's probably why). Such a decorated Armed Forces Reserve Medal too! My grandfather was a WO in the CG for many years, he just had pretty standard decorations though and never deployed overseas. @Thornfield Hall:That is what comes of the 18 years of service in the Coast Guard Reserve; active service after floods and hurricanes. Ditto for the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. The Armed Services issue more medals and awards nowadays than back in the day. For 3 years of service (two in Vietnam) in the Army, I was awarded only 4 medals, the other awards were unit citations. SPARS

I'm beginging to find that getting SPARS up to speed for A-Class is more work than I had expected, but we are making progress - albeit slow progress. Of concern to me is one source in particular, which is: "A Preliminary Survey of the Development of the Women's Reserve of the United States Coast Guard" (PDF). U.S. Coast Guard Historical Section - Washington, D.C. April 1946. Retrieved 8 January 2013.

I think it is a worthy source; what concerns me is that while it has all the USCG trappings it isn't associated with any offical Coast Guard website -it's just hanging out there.

Since, I assune, you have more experience navigating Coast Guard sites than me, would you have the time to see how or if this source is tied to some offical USCG site. @Pendright: There is nothing wrong with the publication that you are mentioning and it can be accessed through the Coast Guard Historian's Office website at https://www.history.uscg.mil/Our-Collections/Documents-Publications/igpage/2/igsearch/Spars/isListView/False/ From the Historian's Office page ( https://www.history.uscg.mil/ ) you select the "Our Collections" header and from there you select the "Documents and Publications" in the drop-down menu. Type in "SPARS" in the Keyword blank. The publication will appear at the bottom of Page 2 of the search results. Click on the publication illustration and it will download.

As a side note, the publication was the 22nd part (or chapter) of a complete history of the Coast Guard activities during World War II that was published just after the war. All of the Coast Guard Historian's Office postings and publications are on the https://media.defense.gov website now.

Thank you again for your attention to the improvement of the SPARS Wikipedia article. If the result is anywhere close to the WAVES article that you wrote then you will have done a great service to the reader. I hope you are getting along well. Cuprum17 (talk) 11:32, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cuprum17: At long last, I've finished revamping the SPARS article enough that it's now, hopefully, a valid A-Class candidate. @Pendright:Finally got to look over the SPARS article and I have made a few minor corrections/additions. It looks like a really fine article now and I hope it can pass muster for A-Class. Thank you for your interest in this Coast Guard subject, something near and dear to my heart. I'm sure that nominating SPARS for A-class will bring out additional suggestions and/or comments. I know that the one A-class article I wrote kept me busy for about a month on the review process just putting out small fires from reviewers.
