The Wizard of Oz

You've just reverted an edit of mine on the film of the WIzard of Oz. Given that Arlen wrote all the musc for the songs, providing the material that Stothart used for his underscore, I'd be grateful if you could explain why you believe Harold Arlen should not be credited, at least in part, for writing the music for the Film. Please read Template:infobox film. Under music, is this: "Insert the name(s) of the composer(s) of the original music score. They are usually credited with "Music by". Many thanks - appreciated. I struggled to understand why songwriters should not be included but recognising that many modern films have huge numbers of songs, the vast majority of which were never written for the film, I can see an opportunity for complete chaos in the Infobox and I wouldn't mind betting that's what ultimately led to the current definition. However, this is clearly an occasion where Wiki's definition results in a wrong answer. Stothart was not the sole author of the music for the WIzard of Oz - Arlens' name is listed as a co-author on all Stotharts' scores for the piece. Obviously so, given that so much of the source material was Arlen's.

I've checked a few other examples within Wiki. Richard Rodgers is correctly credited as the composer for the Rodgers / Hammerstein musicals - despite the fact that the underscores were all written by Bennett, Rittman etc. The same can be said for many other composers from that period. Under this definition some of the most famous songwriters Broadway has ever seen would simply not be credited for having written the music - a ridiculous state of affairs. Wiki's entry for A Hard Days Night is interesting - The Beatles are given an entry there, alongside George Martin.

I don't know the best way forward with this. The issue really lies with Wiki's definition. I'd be grateful if you could point me to the best way as to how to deal with that, although I'm not sure I've got the stomach for a long protracted discussion. Let's see. Thanks again. This is to let you know that I am adding Arlen's Name to the Music section in the Info Tab. I've read through the discussion on the Template: Info Box Film Talk Page it's clear to me that his name is warranted. The key comments are are 1) "The consistent theme of comments, both pro and against, is that credit should be provided where practical without overwhelming the infobox template", 2) " there is a rough consensus to judiciously credit additional composers" and 3) "For musical films, however, the songwriter is the predominant composer of music with the score composer, when there is one, somewhat secondary and supporting to that. Both should be listed." Arlen is, without question, the predominant composer of music for the Wizard of Oz. Look, I understand where you’re coming from about this being solely theatrical films. but if you look on the page there are two movies clearly listed on there that are going to be on HBO max. Those two films being ‘An American Pickle’ and ‘Charm City Kings’. So I don’t understand why you removed my section for the Snyder cut of Justice league, which also has factual sources behind it, while others are doing doing the exact same thing and you don’t take those films. Thank you for your work in protecting Wikipedia against vandalism. I can see that you are an experienced editor and that you think your actions were justified, but you are going about things in the wrong way. Your actions came to my attention at WP:RFPP where you were asking for protection for Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2. A single IP editor was involved and was expanding the plot section. You reverted his edits 21 times over a period of two days. Your edits were not covered by any of the exemptions mentioned here and you could be blocked for breaking the three revert rule. The user did more than expand the plot section: [They also removed the Reception section. Compare this difference between their edits and a reversion]. And I'm pretty sure this is not the last IP they edited this page under. See [this one from 2012] and [this one from 2017]. You'll find some similarities between this new IP's edits and the old ones. And on the plot, their edits sound more like someone piling on the adjectives than expanding it with useful info. Compare the original "After the Kingdom of Zephyrus was rescued by Sparkster from the Devotindos Empire..." to their "After the old legendary Zephyrus Kingdom was once previously saved and eventually restored to everlasting peace by the ever fearless, valiant and heroic Rocket Knight Sparkster from the formerly terrible Devotindos Empire..." Yeah, that IP is a real pain! He might be the same as the 2017 one I suppose. I see that you did indeed post several warnings to his talk page, and reported him to WP:AIV, but not until you had reverted his edits an excessive number of times.
