User talk:Clindberg"Edit Top" scriptI had the same issues with the edit link showing up on diff and history pages. The elements that your script was looking for appeared to be there, so I don't know why your script didn't work, but that's the way it is :-) When I made other changes to the script, those changes appeared, so it's not a browser refresh issue. I actually prefer the mechanism used in recent change to Monobook.js to determine whether to show it or not -- it looks for other appearances of the [edit] link on the page, and only adds if one is found. That should respect the user's edit link preference as well. Also, you need to do a global replace of space to underscore -- your current replace() just does the first one. However, your method of actually adding the link appears to work much better than that one. You can see what I'm experimenting with at User:Clindberg/monobook.js if you like (I have broken things up into separate variables for experimentation purposes; not really necessary though). Navigation barsCarl, you seem to be helpful testing other people's javascript. When you are finished with David's project, would you be willing to help a bit on mine? Gimmetrow 03:36, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm trying to enhance the dynamic navigation bars. I have general questions about the best approach (ie, whether it's good to use these JS calls, and whether it should create a new class or replace the old one), and specific ones about performance. Ultimately, I need enough support to convince an admin to roll it in. See also here. Gimmetrow 04:01, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

WALTER TRAVISThank you for your recent correction of the date of Travis's use of the Haskell Ball to win the U.S. Amateur. Also, the images you have added to the article are terrific. I would like to change the notation for two of the pictures, one, to identify the ball in the 1901 picture as the Haskell Ball, and two, to change the date of the portrait of Travis sitting. We have that picture in our collection with the date of 1901 rather than 1909. Thank you again for your help. TravisSociety, 9 February 2007

Thanks for uploading Image:1931RyderCupCover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:56, 27 October 2007 (UTC) For you...
Changes to golf tournament namesHi, Clindberg - You and I both been busy reverting changes to Ladies European Tour and LPGA to the tournament names. This vandal has been at work on both articles as well as on individual player articles, changing for example, MasterCard Classic to MasterCard Classic presented by Nextel. (Nextel has never been involved in the tournament ever). And sometimes adding the "presented to" name -- sometimes the correct one, sometimes not. I traced the IP number all these changes and it comes back to the same ISP in Australia. I have reported this to Wikipedia admins to see if the page can be protected about IP edit. They denied the request for now but asked me to submit it again if the activity keeps up. --Crunch (talk) 15:44, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

October NARA scanathonHi, you attended the scanathon at the National Archives in October. I recently noticed that most participants have yet to upload scanned documents to Commons, so I just wanted to check and see if you have any files to upload. Please use the October 2011 NARA Backstage Pass category when uploading (and tag any files you already uploaded without it) so we can track them. Any documents you upload will also cataloged by NARA, as well as being available for Wikimedians to use, so this is important! Also, if you have any photos from the tour or other aspects of the event, please be sure to upload those as well. Thanks! Dominic·t 20:15, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

PD FloridaHi. You commented on Template:PD-FLGov on Commons some time ago so I wonder if you can help with Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2012_June_26#File:ChiefTomokieStatueTomokaStatePark.jpg. What made me send the file to PUF was the text on Commons that "This file is part of the public record...". As I read "public record" I think of text and law etc. and not photos. The logo File:FDEPlogo.jpg is fair use and that convinced me that not everything from the government is PD. If you can I would appriciate some help. Following the WikiSalon, we will be having dinner at a nearby restaurant, Ella's Wood Fired Pizza. If you're interested in attending, please sign up at the event page. We look forward to seeing you there! Kirill [talk] 01:44, 8 October 2013 (UTC) Meetups coming up in DC!Hey! You are invited to two upcoming events in DC:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on my talk page. — Harej (talk) 05:11, 3 March 2014 (UTC) Could you take a look at this and tell whether the uploaded copy is a published copy or not? As far as I have understood, copies of images like this which are distributed to newspapers count as published copies if there is no restriction on how the newspaper uses the image. However, in this case, there is a stamp which clearly limits how the newspaper uses it. Does this make the uploaded copy unpublished? --Stefan2 (talk) 17:16, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
An exciting month of wiki events!Hello there, I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from. First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation. On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics. The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week. There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events! help?I warned you that I would probably need your skills. I am working on a photograph that crosses multiple borders and am hoping you can help me out. This image was taken per the The Museum of World Cutlure (Världskulturmuseet) in 1886 during the Popper Expedition. That would be logical, considering that Popper immigrated in 1885 (p 91) and died in Argentina in 1893. (pp 92, 107) There is no evidence in accounts of who took the pictures, or that he published the photographs, but he gave public lectures with photographs and presented the photo album of his exploration to the President Miguel Juárez in 1887. (p 94) Article 17 of the 1869 Constitution of Argentina provided that intellectual property rights had protection for a term to be specified by law. No separate legislation on term was passed until 1910, which provided protection for ten years after the death of the author. BUT, no provision was made for anonymous works.pp 490-491 Since we have no idea who in Popper's expedition took the photograph, it appears that it had no protection. Fast forward to 1931, when it was published by Martin Gusinde (1886-1969).[11] in [Vienna. The copyright law of 1936 provided in §13 that in the absence of a known author, the publisher assumed the rights of authorship. In §74 (6) the term is defined as expiring 20 years after a photograph was created or 20 years after publication.[12] Thus copyright in Austria expired in 1951. As no subsequent law was passed prior to URAA effective date of 1996 (the Austrian law was next amended in 1998) it was in the PD in the US as it was published outside the US, had not been renewed, and was out of copyright 1 January 1996. Do you concur with this analysis that it is in the PD in the country of origin, Argentina, in Austria, and in the US by virtue of URAA? Any insight you can give will be helpful and thanks for taking the time to evaluate it. SusunW (talk) 20:07, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Austria's first legislation for authors was a legal patent protection declared in 1846. This remained as the only protection in Austria, as they did not sign the 1886 Bern Convention for artistic and literary works, until 1895, when Austria-Hungary passed the "Law on Copyright in Works of Literature, Art and Photography".[13] The law, amended in 1907, and incorporating the Hungarian law of 1884, provided a general term of copyright of 30 years in Austria and 50 years in Hungary for anonymous works, or life +30 in Austria (and life +50 in Hungary) for known authors. Specifically photographs were required to contain an author's notice and if they did that were protected for 10 years in Austria and 5 years in Hungary.(p. 406) Austria joined the Bern Convention in 1920 and adopted a new copyright law in 1936;[14]. Which means technically, I guess that the book published in 1931 was out of copyright in 1999, but the photographs being anonymous and bearing no photographer identification were not protected? Would you mind taking a look at the images discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2021 October 10#Henry Kulka images when you have some time? As pointed out during that discussion, some of the files might actually be OK licensed as PD and thus acceptable for Commons. Even if some of them would only be PD in the US, it might be possible to convert their licensing to {{PD-USonly}} or some other PD license for local use on English Wikipedia. If images which have a good chance at being PD can be seperated out, they can be discussed over on Commons. This would also go a long way it helping to further sort out any of the bunch that need to remain licensed as non-free content. There's no great rush in figuring this out, but I would appreciate any input you can provide. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:51, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

I'm wondering if you can think of any way that File:Madeleine Riffaud.jpg might be PD. I know nothing about the file's provenance other than what's given in its description, but for the sake of argument let's say it was taken during WWII and its country of origin was c:COM:FRANCE. France seems to be following a 70 year p.m.a for photos by anonymous authors; so, 1945 + 70 would be 2015. Is it possible that this could still be protected in the US since it wouldn't have been PD in France by the URAA date or am I mixing things up a bit? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:22, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi! This is from 1905 and according to text on one of the versions in the file history the photograph was taken by "Hulton and Company, Manchester". No name was mentioned. I wonder if this could be {{PD-UK-unknown}}. Edward Hulton himself died in 1925 but since they did not mention the photographer we can't be 100% sure he was the photographer. --MGA73 (talk) 14:18, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
