I have no idea why you are having the spam blacklist problem. I have read a book about the Bossa Nova movement (Chega de Saudade, by Ruy Guerra, published here in Brazil in 1990), which deals largely with Gilberto's life, and the Wikipedia article seems reasonable -- not too lengthy, and I see no factual innacuracies. For whatever reason, I looked to see who wrote Augustin Barié, and saw you wrote it a few months ago. I remembered your name from Missa Papae Marcelli and that you had written a lot on music, both popular and classical. I don't actually know which books the list combines. It doesn't have much (recent) popular music, but has a lot of jazz, world music, and defunct record labels, in addition to classical. If the material is important enough for the article, then it is best incorporated into the main article. Since all of the Gene Summers Albums are basically track listing, would you be opposed to one large merge in a new article "Gene Summers' Albums". I understand the message lag, not really trying to make a point here, or contesting Gene Summers notability. But for instance Texas Rock And Roll's content, other than the list of songs, is the medium released on, what year it was released, what country it was release in, and which artist released it. And none of those facts are sourced. I'm not against including albums or even only semi-notable albums of notable artists, but as most of these articles are now, they really don't provide a context. As far as other albums on WP, I just haven't gotten to them yet :). Since I'm not a music expert, I'll toss the Unreferenced and Context tags on them, watch em for a couple of months, and then propose a mass-merger if nothing changes. Thanks. Well, the Screamo term has been created just to define "Chaotic emo" bands, such as Saetia, Orchid, Love Lost But Not Forgotten, Gauge Means Nothing, and such, they sound nothing like Blessthefall, which sounds pretty much like post hardcore to me. I believe Screamo is largely misintepreted nowadays, and it takes a lot of research to get some accurate information on the genre, in fact, some bands have even mislabeled their own sound as Screamo. I'm really sorry about the delay in replying. Thank so much for the proofreading! I looked over your comments, and I'm still not sure how to translate "křupavých". I checked a dictionary, and the standard translation is crunchy, but that might not be applicable to an album title. Anyways, the album title is identical with the title of a song in it. I looked up lyrics and here's a rough summary of the "plot" : The narrator was visiting a girl. She brought him a plate with "křupky" (=any junk food that crunches, like Cheetos). However these "křupky" were shaped like hearts. There was a candle on the plate, so the narrator figured out that this was no ordinary night. He had a glass of wine, and decided to leave. She convinced him to stay, it was raining outside anyway. And so he began to move the crunchy hearts on his plate. They formed an 8, an infinity out of two 0's. And the girl fumbled with the formation, creating a heart out of little hearts. And he "broke" it. I know my summary sounds like non sense, but song lyrics were not made for summarisation. Anyways, the point is that "crunchy hearts" definitely belongs there, but there is also supposed to be the symbolism, the breaking of the heart out of crunchies broke the girl's heart. I'm still not sure what term to use. I think it would be wise to stick with crunchy, but any further input would be great. Puchiko 02:19, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article requests on classical compositions

Hello, I just noticed that the page dedicated to article requests for classical compositions Wikipedia:Requested articles/music/Operas, stage musicals and classical compositions has been deleted by User:Wizardman and that in response to this, you have accordingly updated the links to that list, found on other pages. May I ask you if you were aware of any dicussion about the deletion before it occurred? In my opinion, a separate page is necessary since the list is quite long in itself and to ensure it remains solely devoted to classical pieces and does not get cluttered up with requests for articles on "compositions" in every genre, which ought to go elsewhere. My thoughts on "How to get your article written"

I think that's a great idea! I really like how you explain certain issues like notability instead just giving links to policies. The specific examples are nice too. I think this will help requesters (and us, of course!)

A couple of things I would change. First, maybe change the name to "How to get an article written" or "How to get your requested article written" or something like that. As it is right now, some might interpret it as "how to get an article written on yourself" (or maybe it's just me?) Which is something else you might want to include - letting people know requesting an article on yourself (or your band) is generally discouraged. Second, I would change the first bullet point under "What to do". I think this will lead to lots of unnecessary disambiguating. Sometimes leaving it as a blue link is OK. A blue link might be only a link to a useless disambig. page or a redirect to another related article, and it would be the appropriate place to create the article. I do think something needs to be said about this issue, though.

One thing I would include, is a note about double checking to make sure the article doesn't already exist. I would encourage people to try searching Wikipedia for the article first. I've run across many requested artists that already had a article. The requester couldn't find it though because either they spelled it wrong or used incorrect capitalization. A search (instead of hitting "go") most likely would've turn up the article (a Google search of Wikipedia is even better).

Finally, where you mention notability, I would the link to WP:MUSIC instead of WP:N, as it's more specific.

Thanks for writing all this out. I know most requesters are not familiar with Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines, and this a great way of coaching them without throwing tons of policies and guidelines at them. Besides what I've mentioned above, I wouldn't include anymore instruction, as they'll be less likely to read it all, so just for ideas check out Dihydrogen Monoxide's essay on Satisfying music notability guidelines. It's really for editors and not readers (requesters), but it has some helpful tips in it.

Deleting lists in favour of categories

An crufty list you mon'd for AfD was recreated earlier this eve.(the oh so WTF? "List of metalcore bands") I tagged it for Speedy D as a repost. The creator is a very busy fellow on many other useless list-cruft type lists for many dubious fairy-tale heavy metal sub-genres that ooze original research. A quick glance through the user's edit history reveals a long list of potential/successful AfDs. If you are inclined to cleaning out the "fluff" perhaps many of these fanboy pages could be removed in one powerful Wiki-antiseptic swipe. Just a thought. This looks like it would be a difficult case to make. Of the bands she's been in, only one, Skullkrusher, currently has an article, and to be honest with you, without more reliable sources, that article will probably eventually be deleted. And, just taking a look on Google, there are at least three other bands called Skullkrusher and none of them seem to stand out (perhaps the Finnish group scores highest, as they at least have an Encyclopedia Metallum entry). Skullkrusher doesn't have an Allmusic entry and isn't listed in my Great Metal Discography. Gravemist once had an article but it was deleted; there's a residual copy here, but I can't see the band passing Wiki's requirements again. They seem to be a mostly local group that hasn't gotten much outside coverage, at least not online. Do you have any paper magazines that discuss these groups? I don't have access to the zine that is mentioned in the Skullkrusher article, unfortunately, but it might help.

As for Noctis herself, her albums appear to be more or less self-released, and the blog interview, while nice, isn't likely to pass for a good source, because anybody can set up a blogspot page and interview a musician; we'd need a more reputable, published source. Her albums haven't been reviewed in any major publications that I can see. She seems simply too new and too local to pass muster. The award she won (from the PittRadio website) is the strongest evidence we have yet, so maybe if that wins her more notice in the near future we'll have more to work with. Ok, Skullkrusher also doesn't appear in my Great Alternative/Indie discography, either, which does cover punk. Granted, it's written by a Brit; I should look into finding a good discography of the American punk scene, but regardless, these groups seem like they might be too new to be in paper encyclopedias.

You'll note that the Encyclopedia Metallica entry for Obskurum mentions that there is almost no information available online about the band. In fact, whoever wrote that entry has very little to add. The problem here is, I look at these bands and I say to myself, they look like local Chicago groups that have been self-releasing their stuff; how can I make the case that they have gotten some sort of major national or at least regional exposure or notoriety? The Brinkster24 list is more like a phone book than a real source, and the author even states at the top that he has trouble with quality control. Let me take your statements point by point.

• If Vrolok was featured on the History Channel, that gives them at least a shot at coming up with a decent article. But being featured on a split with a notable band doesn't automatically make the other band notable unless they start getting noticed on their own.
• I found at least four other bands called "Black Reign" and two called "Blackreign"; some metal and some rap. (Metal bands seriously need to get more creative with the names.) There is very little on the Internet about this group, either. Which is strange, because a 2000's-era band which has any sort of notoriety whatsoever usually shows up in a search engine. And there's so little for this band.
• If the group is the first queer US Black Metal band, and this is important, why are you the only person who seems to know it? I can't find any source that says that. Have they been featured in a gay magazine? That would be a major help - in fact, that alone might be enough to substantiate the article.
• I know the award was from ASCAP. PittNews seems to be the only news outlet that covered the award, and mind you, all they did was reprint, verbatim, Noctis's press release. Which is okay; it's a start. But it's only a start. If you want to write up an article and hang it all on that award, you can, but I can't guarantee that it will sway the community.
• Death in June has been around for 25 years and has been covered countless times in music magazines. Luftwaffe is a harder case; they're newer and possibly another target for deletion. See, here's how it is. If you are a band who self-release all of your material, and you become an international success story and get covered in music magazines all over the world and have books written about you, like Death in June or Dispatch, that deserves an article. Wikipedia has an exhaustive list of qualifications at WP:MUSIC; if you're a band that releases two albums on a major label, then you can have an article. Or if you chart a hit single or your album charts, you can have an article. Or if you get featured in a half-hour long radio broadcast (like on NPR), you can have an article. Or if you are an underground band who never leave Chicago, but you are the subject of multiple news/magazine/review articles, you can have an article. This band, so far as I can see, meets none of these qualifications. Who is writing about the underground Chicago punk and metal scenes? Well, not Greg Kot or Jim DeRogaitis. I lived in Chicago when these bands were around and I never heard of them - and I was paying attention.
• Being a Satanist doesn't mean you get a Wikipedia article. There are tens of thousands of Satanists; so what? Also, starting your own temple doesn't mean much unless your temple becomes a big deal, and it's only a year old. It appears to be nothing more than an occasional blip on some blogs' radar, and apparently something that deeply concerns the furry community.
• You mentioned Maximum RockNRoll. Did any of the bands you've mentioned get a review in that magazine? That would help; it would be the biggest press coverage I've seen so far.

I don't look around for a guide/source for a band that I tag. If I tag a band, it is because there are no sources. Sometimes, I will tag a band with AMG on it because the AMG information is nothing but crap. Aware Records

The history bio of Aware records was sourced from three different places, I stitched the information all together from Columbia, Aware and from one of the compilation CDs they used to put out and wrote the entire prose myself, without taking the information directly from any of the sources. Inappropriate...?

At the moment I am going through Category:American musical groups putting more specific categories in each article so that the category gets reduced in size (Currently there are 2000+ articles linked). I have done 0-9, A - B and nearly C. As I go through I am also trying to tidy (i.e. get rid of) any unnecessary articles. Obviously the quickest way to do this is to tag for speedy. When the article consists of only one or two lines and says nothing of importance, to me that does not justify an article, and certainly does not assert any significance. It is up to other, more experienced editors to check if these articles meet the speedy guidlines. Keep an eye on my contributions, as I try to put in the edit summary if I have nominated for speedy or prod (I will usually add "speedy" or "prod" on the end of the summary. As I said above, my problem with AfD is not the time taken to delete an article, but the time it actually takes to nominate the article for deletion. It is my view that an article shouldn't be started unless there is something important to put in there. I, apparently unlike you, don't believe that everything is worthy of an article. This is not a collection of random information. It is an encyclopedia, and just because we are not limited by the physical size (as with a paper copy) we should still attempt to have at least some requirements for a basic article. If the article seems non-notable to me, then I will nominate it for deletion via speedy. Loquat Article

So I tried to cut my Wikipedia teeth creating a stub article for the band Loquat, only to have it deleted out from under me for failing to assert notability. After taking the time to do some more research and try to review all the rules and regulations, I've created a more comprehensive article that I believe satisfies notability. I intend to keep a closer eye on this one and keep improving it as I learn more, however I'd feel safer having a more experienced eye take a glance to make sure I have my ducks in a row. G'day Chubbles. Yes I tagged the article with a notability maintenance tag. I feel the article fails (as it is) WP:MUSIC as it does not cite any reliable sources. The links you provide are both to a web blog (which are not regarded as reliable sources on WP:NPV and WP:NOR grounds. I could take it to AfD if you prefer? Hi. I have reviewed your request and am going to decline it for three reasons:

1. The article was prodded, not speedily deleted. Therefore, you or anyone else who found the song notable had five days to remove the notice.
2. The article was PROD endorsed, which meant that, including myself, three people endorsed the deletion of the article, a rare feat for a PROD.
3. The content of the deleted article in its entirety was ""Days of our lives" is a song by Bone Thugs -N- Harmony." This means that no assertion of notability was made (not every song by every famous artist is automatically notable). The PROD was worded poorly, but the intent was correct: there was no assertion made of notability. Furthermore, restoring it in that state would be useless without an assertion of notability.

If you wish to recreate an article on the song that asserts its notability through a variety of reliable, third-party, independent sources, you may feel free to do so and I have no problem with that. Recreating it as it was, however, is against Wikipedia's content policies and, given that I've copied the text of the article in its entirety here, there's no reason to restore it. Future Leaders of The World edits

Chubbles, you really should include more info about Machina on the Future Leaders of the World article. The article should be more about Machina instead of "FLOW". Things about Machina working with Mick Mars and other line up changes should be included in the article.
