WikiProject Films roll call and coordinator elections
Roll call and Coordinator nominations
It's that time of year again – we're wiping everyone's name off of the active members list and doing a project roll call. Your username is listed on the WikiProject Filmsparticipants list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active on the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:FILM editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. You can also add your name to any of our many task forces!
It's also time to start the WikiProject Films coordinator selection process! We are aiming to elect seven coordinators to serve for the next six months; if you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 (UTC) on September 14!
Can't believe we're already in September! The WP:CFB newsletter is ready for distribution whenever you get a chance. Thanks again! JKBrooks85 (talk) 04:30, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey, the Films newsletter is now available. If you're able to send it, please send it to the inactive and active members of the project to help remind the inactive about the roll call (this will probably reduce the number of users to send it out for next month's newsletter). If you can't send it out please let me know. Thanks and enjoy whatever is left of your summer. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 21:53, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
The August 2008 issue of the Films WikiProject newsletter has been published. You may read the newsletter, change the format in which future issues will be delivered to you, or unsubscribe from this notification by following the link. Thank you. This has been an automated delivery by BrownBot (talk) 22:43, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
The bot malfunctioned and died twice due to Cocoma having a 756 KB talk page (it was vandalized months ago and no one removed it...). I had to restart the bot and reset all the settings, and I started at the wrong spot. I had reverted all the bad edits before I saw your message (probably at the same time you wrote it). Cbrown1023talk23:39, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Hello, got your email some time ago, but didn't have time to reply. I just finished translating the Romanian donation page template at m:Donate/ro. There were some links there that I didn't know if they have Romanian translations, so they all link to the English pages. Hope this is ok. ---Danielgrad (talk) 11:27, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
This sort of explains it. Basically, the script is on the wrong server and it sporadically caused watchlists to take a minute to load. It also has some JS issues that should probably be resolved. I spoke with Greg about it, and said he was going to fix it, but eventually I got fed up and simply disabled it. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:07, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi! I noticed that this bot has the ability to deliver newsletters (e.g. for MILHIST). I would like thus to ask if this would be also possible for the newsletters of the WP:GREECE as well. I am not delivering them manually, and it is veeeeeeeeeery boring! Thanks for examining my request!--Yannismarou (talk) 09:35, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Heh, sure. Just leave a note on my talk page telling me to send out the current issue and liking to this month's newsletter. I'll only send it out when you leave a note on here so I don't send something out that's not done. :-)Cbrown1023talk23:54, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
DC meet-up
The organizers of the DC meet-up this Saturday seem to have failed to request the services of BrownBot to issue notifications. I realize this is pretty much last minute, but if he's not too busy, do you think you can prevail upon him to help out? Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:10, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
I should check contribs before leaving messages...
I just left you a message on enwikiquote, then realized you hadn't edited there for a bit. Dropping you a note here so that you'll see it (incidentally, in case you didn't know, you can have the system email you when you get a talk page message on damn near every project except this one).
Nothing major, just something I can't do because I'm not a sysop over there. (my life would be so much easier if there was a global "can bypass page protection" userright) EVula// talk // ☯ //21:17, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I know about the enotif and I have it enabled on Wikiquote (and every project but the top ones that don't have it technically possible), but there's a lg in the message. ;-) Sure, I'll look now. In the future, you should probably leave messages not related to en.wikipedia on Meta, because I check that more frequently than this. Cbrown1023talk21:38, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, since you've got it enabled (I'm still in the midst of activating it for all my accounts... a bit time consuming for me), I probably won't follow-up with messages anywhere, but I will make a note of it. :) EVula// talk // ☯ //21:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Hehe, I know what you mean about activating things on all your accounts... I still have to add my global.js global js settings and update my signature on all my 700+ accounts. :P I'm crazy like that and had all those accounts before SUL, like you did. ;-)Cbrown1023talk22:01, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been setting up my sigs (all localized!) and userpages as I've gone along, which helps take the bite out of it, but it's still a pain to manage them all. Glad to know I wasn't the only one that didn't bother waiting for SUL. ;) EVula// talk // ☯ //03:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Romanian translation
This is regarding your message requesting my assistance with the revision of the translation.
First a technical question: Do you want me to correct the text directly or to put my comments on the talk page?
You can correct the text directly on the page.
The problem of registered agent and designated agent are strictly related to US legislation and will be difficult to understand for people from other countries. I am an american but, being an environmental engineer, still would not have known what those agents are, had I not read the explanatory article. I have my doubts that the Romanian legislation has any provisions defining something close to those agents. So while I would translate these terms as "Agent înregistrat" and "Agent desemnat" I definitely think that besides the link, a short explanation would be necessary.
Okay, I understand, that would be fine. We've run into the same problem with other languages and I've let them handle it how they think it would be best for the visitors.
Besides, at a certain moment, you would probably would like to translate the links, to make the explanations available to anybody wanting to understand the issues. I am willing to help, if you need it.
That would be great too. :-)
But, first things first. I also have some suggestions for the correction of the translation. How do you want my input?
I would very much appreciate your help, Romanian is one of the languages where we don't have many translators anymore. :-(
I corrected the page. There is still work to do on the templates and links, but otherwise the translation is OK. I did not change any of the categories so it is still labeled for proofreading. Please keep me posted on what else you want me to do. When I have time I will try to translate at least part of the articles which are linked to the contact-us page. But let me know if you have other priorities. Afil (talk) 00:51, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Completed the Donate/ro article. It seems OK now, in any case it can be posted now. However I don't know what the next step is, simply eliminate the proofreading category or something else. I imagine that the budget image and the various percentages are not to be translated. In case you want that done, please indicate how to find the image file.
Wow, thanks again Afil! :-) I published it at wmf:Donaţii, it looks great. (In response to your question about the status, we normally put "done" when it's ready for publishing, but since you told me here it's still okay.) Thanks so much for your help and yeah, Home would be my next priority. :-) Cbrown1023talk04:30, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
I noticed that you protected Peter Damian's talk page, and I wondered if you might reconsider. I think it's a sensible location for further discussion, and would appreciate an unprotect. Thanks! I dropped a note into Jimbo, and at the admin.s noticeboard too, but thought that I should swing by here as well... best, Privatemusings (talk) 03:53, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
no worries - my understanding (just to be super clear!) - is that you were applying protection on behalf of jimbo, and / or the arbcom? - that seems a little unusual, but there's no rush here, and I'm sure this'll all get sorted out ok.... cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 04:27, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!
The members list is currently under review so we have moved all past active member's name to a Incumbent List and are doing a Project Roll Call. If you still consider yourself an active WP:NOVELS editor, please add your name back to the Active Members List. You may also wish to add your name to any of our many Project Task Forces.
Devil May Care, written by Sebastian Faulks ("writing as Ian Fleming"), has become Penguin Books fastest selling hardcover fiction title. It is the latest installment in the book series about British secret agent James Bond and was released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of late Bond creator Ian Fleming's birthday on May 28, 1908.
Me Cheeta: the Autobiography, written by a ghostwriter, is the autobiography of Cheeta the Chimp who is listed in the Guinness World Records as the oldest recorded non-human primate at the age of 76. He has appeared in various movie roles which included twelve Tarzan movies and even battled addiction to alcohol and cigars. The book is not published until October 1, but judges for the 2008 Guardian First Book Award were sent a early version and were so impressed that they have included it on the 10-strong longlist.
Stephenie Meyer, who is listed by Time magazine as one of its 100 most influential people of 2008, has decided not to continue with writing her draft for Midnight Sun after 12 chapters of the unfinished manuscript were leaked on the internet.
Current debates
Categories for Discussion has a series of discussions about whether to categorize certain specific types of fictional characters: double agents, dictators, characters with eidetic memory, etc. Advice from any Novels project members would be valuable in assisting them.
WikiProject Media franchises aims to help editors with the coordination of articles within the thousands of media franchises which exist and has requested input from our members. They are currently discussing a naming convention for franchise articles. Since this may affect one or more articles in our Novel project, they would like to get opinions before implimenting any changes.
With the Newsletter being almost three months overdue, I have decided to take on the position of Editor to make sure it reaches you regularly on time each month. The Newsletter is meant to inspire and encourage our team of Editors and so my goal shall be to make it informative and interesting each issue.
We now have many positions vacant in our Project Team, so we are looking for members who have the time and interest to take on the various roles, details of which can be found at the Job Centre. Shortly a Coordinator nominations notice shall also be sent out to all members, which will commence the annual Coordinator selection process.
Next month's Newsletter will include a message from our Coordinator Maria, who will introduce herself and speak on our forthcoming elections for extra Coordinators.
This month's Collaboration has been selected by popular vote and is Look Homeward, Angel. The next collaboration is due for selection on 14 September, 2008 so cast your vote.
Newsletter challenge
Our last newsletter's challenge The Pure Land was completed by our member Maclean25, who also provided us with tipline news for this newsletter.
The first person to start the article is mentioned in the next newsletter. This month's article is Leslie Ann Moore's first book in her fantasy 'Griffin's Daughter' trilogy, which was named by the Independent Book Publishers Association as the 2008 Ben Franklin Award winner for Best First Fiction, Griffin's Daughter. Note: This article was previously deleted due to lack of notability, but that now can be established since winning this award.
To unsubscribe from further issues of this newsletter please remove your name from here.
You asked for a reminder nearer the time ... The text for the second wave will be ready around midnight (UTC) tonight when the call for nominations closes and we know the final number of nominees. I'll post the text here then as before. Thanks very much indeed for this: it's saving us so much hassle. --ROGER DAVIEStalk13:29, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
