@AssociateAffiliate: Hi there - I know there was a discussion about this (using date of birth or place or birth as disambiguation for cricketers) but I can't remember the conclusion. With the sad loss of Lugnuts from our Project, I am hoping you might be able to advise on the above. Bs1jac (talk) 09:53, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
@Bs1jac: there was a discussion last year where it was agreed to go by the year of birth in the dab. But with Pakistani cricketers it can get complicated, with plenty sharing the same name and the same date of birth. For Pakistani cricketers I tend to make an exception and go by the team played for to get around the mess that can happen! @CreativeNorth:, you work a lot on Pakistani articles, would you agree? StickyWicket (talk) 20:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts: Further to Chamari Athapaththu, I noticed that Cricinfo have suddenly changed Wesley Madhevere to Wessley Madhevere, and also noticed they now spell Muralitharan with the 'd' (Muralidaran). Which makes me wonder, should we always follow Cricinfo (as we do know, except when there are obvious typos or formatting errors) or not? In the case of Madhevere, both spelling of his first name are found on a Google search, and perhaps we should move. Muralitharan we have always know to spelled differently by different people and the current 'th' is the most commonly used in English-language media (or perhaps just British media rather English language). Bs1jac (talk) 15:42, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi! Ahhh, my old pal, Wes! He's been on my radar for sometime with regards to his name. Is it Wesley? Or Wessley? To make things even more uncertain, Zimbabwe Cricket spell it Wessly! (example). The ICC and Wisden have his first name as "Wesley" (ICC, Wisden), so I'm tempted to leave it as that. LugnutsFire Walk with Me18:06, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Hehe, yeah I noticed the multiple spellings a few months ago. I've added a footnote to his article. There is a Twitter account with someone of this name, but it's not 100% sure if it's the same person, of a fan account. LugnutsFire Walk with Me09:16, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Boris Gorlee
Hi. Can you take some time and be bold, and create the article for this player? He made his ODI debut yesterday. He would've had an article by now but doesn't for 'you know what' reason. Since you deal with associate cricket, why don't you take some chance? Thanks Human (talk) 23:25, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
I have barely been touching the super league scores (tend to leave those with Lugnuts and others). But yeah I'll take a look at the debuts tomorrow if I remember! Bs1jac (talk) 23:28, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Second match have clearly stated Timor Leste as team 1, while Indonesia as team 2. Indonesia were wearing the away shirt too, despite playing in Indonesia
Doesn't matter how it is written in a particular website, the home team should be listed first, and that is regardless of which shirts are worn (teams quite often where their 'away' shirt at home; in this case two games against the same opponents at home, they probably chose to were their other shirt in one game). Bs1jac (talk) 12:38, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
Indo vs Timor at 30 Jan
The 30th January match between Indonesia vs Timor Leste. It was clearly stated Timor Leste & Indonesia as team 1 & team 2 respectively. Even if it took place at Indonesia.
@Lugnuts: According to Cricclubs, there appears to be another tri-series between UAE, Oman and Namibia in early March (feels like overkill, but at least these teams are getting their games in!). They have played tri-series in Oman and Namibia, both cut short, and have the Oman-UAE bilateral this week to make up for some of those games. The third tri-series between them should be in UAE, but Cricclubs currently has it in Oman. Also the fixtures show a standard round-robin and you would think they would add in the remaining missed matches (Nam-UAE x2, Oma-UAE x1). Guess we'll have to wait and see! Bs1jac (talk) 09:42, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts and A Simple Human: Checked Criclubs again. They now have two sets of overlapping fixtures for the remaining tri-series between UAE-OMA-NAM; one in Oman (which is probably wrong as they have already played there) and now also one in Dubai/Sharjah which would be this series. The UAE series has an additional game at the end between Oman and Namibia, which would make up for the game missed in the 2020 Oman series (and previously planned to be played in Namibia 2021), but no extra games at the moment between UAE and NAM to make up for Namibia 2021. Then there appears to be another tri-series immediately after this, featuring UAE-NEP-PNG. Looks like they are at least attempting to squeeze games in! Bs1jac (talk) 21:32, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
Yep - see discussion on the League 2 talk page :) Exact venue is unclear at the moment (Dubai, Sharjah or both), but an Oman contact confirmed the fixtures are pretty much finalised. Bs1jac (talk) 18:08, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
Unclear why friendly games between two very minor cricket countries (world ranked 54 and not ranked at all[2]) would warrant an article. For most team sports (e.g. soccer), only larger tournaments get articles, the remainder is included in season articles per country. That in cricket, you get 3 matches in 2 days instead of just the 1 match in e.g. soccer is hardly a reason to treat this differently.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
@Fram: Hi - While I don't agree with equating an international cricket tour to a football friendly (not directly comparable, WP:OTHERSTUFF), I really don't want to get bogged down in such discussions so I have redirected to a season summary, which I trust is acceptable to you? Cheers. Bs1jac (talk) 14:53, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, obviously acceptable. As an aside, I have no idea why going to a country and playing three games in 2 days on one location would be called a "tour", but each sport has its quirks of course. Fram (talk) 15:02, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
@Fram: To be honest, I hate the word "tour" when all games are at one place... "visit" would seem better, but that's kind of how it is. FYI, the only reason that Switzerland are currently unranked is that they recently returned from a lengthy suspension from the ICC as a result of having two rival boards claiming to be the national association. They have not played enough competitive matches since their return last year to be able to have a ranking, but after this series they should appear on the list (and relatively highly should they win). Qualifer A
@A Simple Human: - You will see that I have contacted Cricinfo about three new profiles that they have created for Germany players that are duplicates of existing players (Vijay Shankar / Vijayshankar Chikkannaiah, Rasul Ahmadi / Ghulam Ahmadi, and Vishnu Baratheon / Elam Bharathi). Hopefully they will notice before tomorrow, but when you put debuts in tomorrow, be careful (as usual) about 'ghost' debuts on the CI scorecards. PS: I am not sure if Lugnuts can create pages again yet; I am happy to create some players if needed, but it probably wouldn't be until later in the day. Bs1jac (talk) 14:36, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
As far as creating articles, I'm still unsure of the notability of the players. Might as well wait and inquire in WP:CRICKET to get response from others and avoid drama. Also Machanda Biddappa/Sachin Biddappa and Umer Imtiaz/Umar Toor seems to have duplicate profiles too. Human (talk) 23:03, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
In the case of Umer Imtiaz I wasnt concerned as he hasnt played a T20I before so it won't matter in the stats. I put it back to the name uaed in the squad announcement (which is the new CI profile). The Biddappas may or may not be the same person, but likewise hasnt played a T20I so we'll use whichever is used in CI. Yes, I am thinking the same regarding notability, although they do meet WP:CRIC. Can always create at a later date (by which time CI will have fixed any issues) Bs1jac (talk) 23:09, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
yes but look at the ICC squad list ref which says Sachin. Not playing today. CI tell me they have fixed the German duplicates so hopefully they will be ok. Bs1jac (talk) 06:40, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
@Bs1jac: why most of the players profile redirect to List of national team's T20I players?? They meet the notability guidelines.. Aditya tamhankar (talk) 12:21, 19 February 2022 (IST)
@Aditya tamhankar: Probably because nobody has created them in full yet. The admins sometimes delete them, or cause trouble for the person who usually creates them, if they are not written with enough detail. They will probably get proper pages eventually but allow some time; for now redirects are to stop editors from creating stubs with not enough info to avoid deletion. Nepal triseries
There's been reports of a T20I trisrries to be held in Nepal with Malaysia and PNG being the other participants after 2022 Nepal Tri-Nation Series (that article isn't updated either) in March. I haven't found any sources yet so let's just wait. Human (talk) 00:00, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
Nepal released this teaser: [3]. I didnt find any official sources except some Nepalese language (which I don't understand) articles regarding this series. Also theres some news from EC: [4]. Though its not known whether it'll be T20s or something else. Human (talk) 07:50, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
I noticed that the Ugandan player Naomi Kayondo (like countless other people) has two profiles in ESPNcricinfo (this and this), with both profiles listing a considerable amount of international matches played. Any way you can instigate a merge of the two? Thanks. Mashfi23 (talk) 14:58, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts Yeah they have been on my radar for a while. They now seem to have confirmed the home series will be Zimbabwe (previously unconfirmed) and Uganda. Seems that the European trip will be a bilateral with Netherlands (unknown format) and potentially Germany as a seperate T20I series. Bs1jac (talk) 13:09, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Morning - hope you are well. Good spot with the ground info from round 9. Odd that both CI and the ICC have it as Dubai, despite the ICC's live feed being from Sharjah! LugnutsFire Walk with Me08:35, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts Hadnt checked the ICC site I must admit. But the ICC comms definitely said Sharjah a few times, and one of the Namibian and I think Omani sources before the series also showed two games there. You can also see the ground is different than the first four games. Bs1jac (talk) 08:51, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Hello. While watching the live stream of the GCC match that's going on now (as I write this), I realized from the commentary that the umpire listed for today's match - Samir Sattar - is actually the same as Samir Parker, the umpire who had officiated in internationals before. Can you check this once you have the time? Thank you. Mashfi23 (talk) 06:22, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Umpire Kurinjikkadan Ravi Azad (Azad KR) also has another profile in the website, and although I'd feel better seeing those two merged also, it might not concern you since there aren't any international matches involved with the duplicate profile. Just letting you know anyway. Mashfi23 (talk) 06:24, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
@Mashfi23 @Mashfi23 Sure. I dont pay too much attention to the umpires to be honest, but may as well try to get CI to correct. Let's leave it as is for now, and i'll drop them a note at some point. Bs1jac (talk) 06:25, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
@Bs1jac The profiles for both the umpires have been sorted now. Thanks again for your help with this. Only about 100 more to go, I guess... Mashfi23 (talk) 12:32, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts: Hi. Zimbabwe seems to announce a T20I series against Namibia: [6]. I was wondering why theres no article yet for that series. Maybe, Bs1jac, you can try creating. Thanks Human (talk) 23:38, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Ah yes, it was still pointing to a redirect on the app (sometimes the cache doesn't refresh very quickly!). For Namibia-Zimbabwe, unfortunately we don't quite know if it is April or May, which would affect the "season". Bs1jac (talk) 18:42, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Hi Bs1jac - hope you're well. Great work as always with the Nigeria Invitational Women's tournament. A quick skim down and I thought that Gambia didn't do that bad, making 146 runs against Sierra Leone, before I re-read it to see it was 14 for 6! Maybe Gambia can play Mali in a future bilateral. Thanks again for all your hard work on Associate cricket. LugnutsFire Walk with Me16:36, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts I though they might have had a chance afyer resticting SL to 60 odd in 9 overs. I was wrong. Planning to take a break from scores for the next couple of weeks now that more and more series are being played... need to snap the addiction! So will mostly leave the PNG tri-series to you and/or the usual crew. Also the Bahamas-Caymans series if that even gets a page; no info right now, have asked for dates. Thanks for the support and your ongoing work! Bs1jac (talk) 17:31, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
No problem. You can't fight the addiction! :D Dare I say it, apart from some uncertainty in areas such as Hong Kong and PNG, it seems that international cricket has come out of the pandemic and is getting back to pretty much full strength? The Women's World Cup was a success, so too the Pak/Aus tour, along with all the Associate matches that have taken place since Christmas. Fingers crossed for the future. LugnutsFire Walk with Me06:42, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts Yeah was going to mention this. Mentioned by Zim too. Interesting to see the relative strength of Brazil and Germany to the african sides. Hopefully it will retain an east African feel though with Uganda, Kenya and maybe Tanzania. Nigeria have close ties with Rwanda so are likely to be invited. Bs1jac (talk) 16:54, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts Kenya are confirmed so thats 5. Apparently it is set to be 10 teams, so my guess for the others would be Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana and Namibia (who would then be heading to Europe to play the Dutch and Germany) Bs1jac (talk) 12:50, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
Hello. I'm wondering if this person and this person are actually the same; they have similar names but different birth dates. They have separate profiles in CricketArchive too, but two of the second guy's matches in ESPNcricinfo are attributed to the first guy instead there. This makes it a little confusing- is there any way to do a check on this, or ask someone about this? Thank you. Mashfi23 (talk) 07:42, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
I just want to understand on whether this is correct and acceptable action on Wikipedia (moved someone's page without leaving a redirect and then immediately recreating the same page by one's own i/d)
As far as I remember, this articlewas created much too early when there were insufficient Reliable sources (none). Czarsportz should not be used as a reliablr source on its own, as the guy finds things from primary sources (often just a small mention) and states the basic info sometimes with no fact checking. Dont get me wrong, he is great for drawing attnetion to things, but therr needs to be at least one or two other sources first. That article also said (at the time) that the series would be in April or May, which is significant as it affects the season — 2021-22 or 2022. I changed to a redirect for these reasons, before later replacing the redirect with an article once there were more sources. I don't know what Lugnuts did inbetween those steps, but I suspect the fact it was not know in which season it would go in at the time of first creation is the reason for any confusion. Bs1jac (talk) 18:49, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
Valletta Cup
Morning! Hope you are well. Yet another opportunity to thank you for your hard work on an Associate cricket tournament. Despite Bulgaria losing four out of four, it seems a fairly matched competition with lots of close results, and without the freak results of a team making 250 and bowling the other side out for 20! Looking forward to all the Euro qualification this summer. Take care. LugnutsFire Walk with Me08:02, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
@Lugnuts It is a good one isn't it. When the Czechs got 250, Bulgaria were about 130/0. Was going to step back for a break this week, but always enjoy the Valletta event. Maybe next week... (Nepal-Uga women, and you'll hopefully be on Zim-Nam) Bs1jac (talk) 08:06, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
Yes, I've been keeping half an eye on it, and enjoying what I've seen! Def. will be on the Zim/Nam fixtures. Hopefully some close matches there as well. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. LugnutsFire Walk with Me08:09, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
Lux-Sui
Hi. You probably want to create the Lux-Sui article as its just around the corner. Also Lux announced the squad for T20Is which you might already know by now. Thanks Human (talk) 01:27, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
@A Simple Human Also I have only seen a 21 man squad for the entire season on LCF facebook, not specifically for this series. i cant open czarsportz at all now on any device sue to security warnings/blocks. Bs1jac (talk) 06:00, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi. Perhaps this is too much to ask for at the moment with all these series announced but can you create an article of Saiteja Mukkamalla when you're free. Just save a reminder or I can create later and you can add in stuff. Human (talk) 16:20, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
@A Simple Human Definitely lots going om in June! Leaving the ODIs to others at the moment and will be selective in the innings I follow next month as need to reduce screen time a bit. But sure, I can try to create this later if still needed. Bs1jac (talk) 16:54, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
2024 T20 World Cup pathway
@Lugnuts and A Simple Human: Just seen this on Cricket Espana's twitter feed. Confirms format for all regions. Need to wait for this to be announced properly, but sounds like we can finally get the non-Europe regions set up soon. Bs1jac (talk) 14:47, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
Lol. OOh, men's T20I debut for Mali (among several others). IF we thought there might be a quieter period after the busy European Summer, we were wrong. Ps: please feel free to take the lead on these if you can! Bs1jac (talk) 14:53, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
