Hi Blueraspberry

Thanks indeed for your welcome, your helpful pointers to WP guidance and glad to help you with HIV prevention.

I am truly a newby - I only just cut my teeth here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stafford&action=history. At the weekend I tripped over the very recently published archaeological reports elsewhere just surfing around, about excavations in the mid - late 1970s at Stafford (not far south of Manchester) when I worked there. There were also excavations at Stafford castle at the time. I was fascinated when the excavations were underway and always wanted to know what they found. I felt compelled to check WP to see what it had to say about these (which was nothing), discovered loads of errors and omissions, signed up, jumped in and got editing.

However my 25+ years of passion and campaigning around HIV, especially at a regional and national level in England over the last 15 years (including writing and sourcing much of the material on http://www.ght.org.uk), help explain why I seem to know what's up! I've earned a lot of respect from my peers in the UK for my creativity in response to the challenges we face and being at the cutting edge.

Campaigning on criminal transmission is one of my areas of expertise. I was a key player responding to the first prosecution in England by helping Matthew Weait organise the seminar series at Keele University (not far south of here) - 'A number of presentations from the Economic and Social Research Council funded seminar series HIV/AIDS and Law: Theory, Practice and Policy (Keele University) deal with the question of criminalization.' Unfortunately the university seems to have removed the presentations - the only reference I have found now is to the award of the grant in 2005 http://www.keele.ac.uk/news/week/archive/2005/1209/1209-06.htm. Matthew is now at Birkbeck College, University of London, http://www.bbk.ac.uk/ce/about_staff/academic_staff/weait/index_html/

Regarding your list article, I will defiantly work on it but the dual approach by some Wiki’s (not you) towards two democracies on this earth is very disturbing and sad. After all, it is some way or other related to how 1,210,193,422 humans living (or dying) on this planate in a dilemma that they are in a democracy. If I do that, can I continue down the path of updating GuideStar's Wikipedia page with information that supports the company's history, or do I need to get someone outside of GuideStar to do this? If the latter is true, I will not make any more updated to the article and will have someone else do it - I just want to do the right thing.

You have a conflict of interest, but this website does not have the same standards as granting services from being a doctor or lawyer, so please continue editing. I am not suggesting that you change your behavior because you have been doing good edits, but just be conscious that this is a community space. For example, if negative publicity exists about your organization and someone puts it into the article, and your employer wants it removed despite it being from legitimate media sources, then the conflict of interest policy comes into play.

Editing the page to include Guidestar's history sounds like a great idea. The only caveat I have is to do as much as you can to incorporate third-party reviews and external press as sources for information, as Wikipedia and scholars consider external sources to be less biased than self-published ones.

Based on what your company is you seem like you would be a fantastic resource for improving Wikipedia. Wikipedia requires that information added be verifiable, and since your company is in the business of verifying the work of non-profit organizations, it seems to me that perhaps you could connect me (and the Wikipedia community) to a large amount of verified data which could be used to improve the articles for a lot of non-profit organizations. I am actually dealing with this problem, and that is why I was watching the Guidestar article.

I do recommend that you change your name because you will be a target for scrutiny until you do. Besides that, put a note on your userpage saying that you work for Guidestar, but that you plan to keep your Wikipedia account even if you cease employment with Guidestar. If you chose to use your real name, the "bureaucrat" (Wikipedia's name for a trusted class of users) will ask whether you have read WP:REALNAME. When you make a name change request [[1]], add a note after the form that you understand what you are doing.

If you have any questions about using Wikipedia, please ask me. I also will contact you by email soon to ask you about the extent to which you can direct me to any database of publicly available information about non-profits. The source is as you say above. The original version on Wikipedia said

There are approximately 100 million gay, bisexual and transgender Indians.

Your change was to

Inquiry on AfDs

Hi Bluerasberry, I'm interestd in the AfDs process in Wikipedia and notice that you once involved in AfDs. I'm not sure whether you find that some discussers are admins while some are not. I'm just wondering whether you care about the adminships of the participants in deletion discussions. Does the referee's adminship affect your attitude towards the result of AfDs? Thanks. Feel free to write me anytime with questions. I have been editing Wikipedia for a while and if I do not know the answer to something then I am sure I can help you find a good answer.

I do not care whether a person participating in an AfD is an admin, and I think most editors feel the same way. Admins have some small permissions which other users do not, and notably, most AfD discussions are ended by admins and only admins can delete articles. However, it is against the rules for any admin who has participated in a discussion to end it, so the admin ending the discussion just checks for consensus and acts accordingly.

There is not necessarily a "referee" in an AfD discussion, but sometimes the person who proposed deletion or someone who has worked on the article will take this role. I would not care if anyone refereeing an article was an admin or not, although typically, admins are people who have made more than 15,000 edits and have years of almost daily editing experience on Wikipedia, so they often are correct just because they have had a lot of experience and received a lot of feedback.

I have often disagreed with admins - sometimes I have been correct and sometimes they have been correct, or sometimes it is difficult to determine whose ideas are best. But with admins as well as most regular Wikipedia editors, generally you can expect a thoughtful response to any question to ask.

Hi, I'm sorry what I did to MSNBC, just sick and tired of attacks on Islam, and wanted to get MSNBC back. Wikipedia is huge and there must be at least 100,000 other things you care about on here and which would be great articles into which you can add content to promote your philosophy. If you think it would be efficacious then email me for a phone appointment and we can talk this through. I care about the article, but I am more interested in attracting new writers than writing myself. I cannot spend time on an article which is exclusive to anyone who wants to jump in and start adding content, and there is no consensus about the criteria for inclusion on that page. I need a lowest common denominator, and that article may not be right for me at this time. If you want to talk more, I think outside of Wikipedia is best. Let me know what you think. Re PN Oak, the fact that it is sourced is not in dispute. What matters is that it is poisoning the well, a well known concept. If we have reason to think that the author's affiliation is relevant to his/her judgement we may include that information. There are many judgement calls, for sure, but in this case I think we have a professional and respected historian commenting on a writer whose views are way beyond any mainstrwm position. I understand now. Earlier in the article there is a statement that Oak campaigns against a certain kind of historian, and then at this point there is a note that one of his rival theorists is a historian of that type, and no other context is given. Thank you for helping me with the Genome-wide association study article. I really want to make the article really good, so I was hoping to create a little more attention for it. In Hindu religion the holy books make claims that Varanasi is older than the rest of the world accepts, and many people in India will say that Varanasi is the oldest city because their religious books mention it as being around in the time of Rama 20,000 years ago. They make the claim.

I and my team have worked in Varanasi for five years and we are doing well enough to expect to be working indefinitely. Jaipur is lovely, and more tourists and travelers enjoy themselves there than in Varanasi. If you are looking for a place which is friendly to tourists, visit Jaipur. If you want to see a wilder side of India, Varanasi has that. There are more Wikipedia programs in the West because education is higher there, and also South India has Wikipedia programs which are not present yet in Varanasi. HPTN 052

Hi Lane -

Last night I edited the entry that you made for HPTN 052. I noticied that you had written that in the study, ART was given to individuals who were HIV-negative to prevent the spread of HIV. However, the study used ART to treat the HIV-positive person - and demonstrated a 96% reduction in sexual transmission. There are several studies that used antiviral medication to treat the HIV-negative person - with positive results - would you like me to point you in the direction of those studies? 2 such studies were reported on at IAS (Rome, 2011) - in the same session as HPTN 052 - so I can see how the results can be confused.

I've never written anything for Wikipedia before - do you think people would be interested in more details about HPTN 052?

I'm curious, are you a teacher? I looked at your Wikipedia profile - but I couldn't tell. I'm a scientific researcher at FHI 360 - and am a part of the HPTN 052 team.

I love the picture of your hamster - my partner and I own several cats - I haven't been able to talk her into getting chickens yet, but I'm working on it.
