Random minor thought. Feel free to disregard.

Lane, I've noticed you use the ... in your edit summaries. This website says, "Because an ellipsis does not necessarily mean the same thing in all instances of its appearance, the reader must be responsible for deciphering the meaning of its presence." For me, now I just ignore the ellipses when I see them in your edit summary, but only because I say to myself, "O that's just what Lane does." =) But they used to make me wonder a bit when I would see them. I imagine they could do the same for others as well. Perhaps you could stop using them? That would be my preference, to be honest. =) I understand it's probably a habit for you now. I am not sure. I feel compelled to do things sometime to identify and distinguish myself in a continual and subtle way. I do not know why but for some reason I want to add personal identifiers to all kinds of things. In 1996 I started putting ellipses in every email subject line and other short summaries. I know very well that it could mean any number of things depending on the reader and that it conveys no definite information. I am not sure who even notices or what they think. Wikipedia Loves Libraries: University of Puget Sound edition

Greetings!

I am a student at the University of Puget Sound, and our library (the Collins Memorial Library) is considering hosting a Wikipedia Loves Libraries event! The only problem is, we're not really sure where to start. I have been busy doing some research (on Wikipedia) about the events other libraries have held across that nation, and I managed to stumble across your username when it had the word "Seattle" near it. I was hoping perhaps you could share some suggestions on the "dos" and "do nots" of Wikipedia meetups. I'm not a Wikimedian myself (in fact I only created an account so I could send you this) so any information would be helpful. Also, if you know any local Wikimedians (Tacoma, Seattle, or the surrounding areas) who might be interested in the event, their coordination would be appreciated. Again, we're still not certain whether or not the event will be happening, but we have great hope it will.

Noticing this, I have a suggestion that seemed to make all the difference for a couple of pages that I created about people: see if you can find "Who was who in America" or "Who's who in America" in a local library, and see if that gives you a good citation about the person. Yes, the material can be retrieved at any time. Sorry that I can't help, I don't have access to U.S. publications of that sort. I was generalizing after discovering that whereas the university library that I mostly use doesn't carry that sort of publication, the city public library does (but they are for another country). Edit-a-thon at Countway Library, Boston, on October 22

Hi Lane,

I think Amanda Rust of Northeastern University has been in touch already, but the Center is seeking a Wikipedian to train volunteers to edit pages relevant to the history of medicine as part of its edit-a-thon on October 22. At the event, volunteers will author pages for a number of the creators for special collections we hold, principally individuals from the Harvard Medical School community, as well as pages for individuals related to the Warren Anatomical Museum (curators). The notable public health figure in this proposed group is Richard P. Strong, the first professor of tropical medicine at Harvard. (See, for example, films from his 1934 African Expedition in our Omeka instance, OnView: http://collections.countway.harvard.edu/onview/items/show/6157). This is in response to Talk:Nasogastric_intubation#Removal_of_self-insertion_study_information. I make no judgement on the practice described; the only thing I say is that by the policy at Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine), Wikipedia practice is to prefer secondary sources. The paper you cited does not give evidence that the procedure you discuss is a common practice; right now that is your own idea and there is no citation. If a source existed which said this, then I think the information should be disseminated. A single research study on 66 people, only 28 of which completed the program, is not sufficient evidence by Wikipedia standards to make this kind of claim. I am not critiquing the study; only saying that I would like more research literature backing this assertion. Can you provide other sources, such as a review article? Thanks. Thanks User:LiZhang1312. Yes, you should be able to cut and paste your text. Look at what I did to your text. Your references were not integrated, and I integrated the first two. When you first invoke a reference, write it out entirely and give it a name - your text was missing this. After you have given the reference once, then just invoke the name - you did this part correctly. You do not need to fill in the reference list at the end of the article; this automatically gets created and numbered by all the references in the text.

Proposed taskforce

Hello Bluerasberry! I'm glad to have found a similarly-thinking Wikipedian! Your statement "a catch-all for regional health care providers and related medical organizations, including individual physicians, companies, medical schools, health care legislation, and perhaps other things" is exactly what I had in mind when I proposed the task force. I think there are quite a few benefits, including having a hub where lay med editors can editor relevant articles, as well as collecting statistics on these articles and grouping them together, and identifyinh & rectifying common issues. If you're interested, I'd really value some help setting it up, perhaps by creating the categories and some of the pages as per here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Medicine/Task_forces#Task_force_creation_guidelines. (It's an awful lot for one editor). I would propose this on the talk page, but I feel there's enough interest amongst editors I am willing to create and announce this after (and even if there isn't that many editors, it's not a world-changing activity anyway). Excuse me for eavesdropping, but I believe this is an incorrect use of the word irony. For a cup of coffee to be ironic, it would have to achieve the exact opposite of its intended effect, perhaps as a caffeinated stimulant beverage, e.g. if it ended up causing sleepiness somehow. Actually, we were talking about iron deficiency, and putting iron supplements in cups of coffee as treatment. The cup of coffee was ironic in the sense that it was a reminder to avoid iron deficiency anemia by drinking an actual cup of coffee containing extra iron. As for the grant proposal, I plan to ask the Wikimedia DC chapter, the Wikimania 2014 scholarship committee for help to volunteer at Wikimania. If you could give suggestions on how to improve, it would be much appreciated.
