2008 Zimbabwean cholera outbreak GA?

Dear Babakathy

I failed a GA nomination of 2008 Zimbabwean cholera outbreak, because I believed it was concerning a "a rapidly unfolding current event with a definite endpoint". I am of the opinion that the event is no longer rapidly unfolding, so I would like to offer to review another nomination should you decide to apply the article for GA status again.

However, I understand if you do not wish me to review another nomination. I examined my comments in the review I gave, and I would like to apologise for them. I wasn't very polite, especially when I said "Please re-nominate the article after the outbreak has concluded. Thank you", which to me does sound like an order. I think I was very tired at the time I did the review, but that is no excuse. My apologies again. Terrakyte (talk) 20:17, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your understanding with regards to my GA review. My apologies again for the tone. I agree that, since the rate of infection hasn't changed, it is still premature to declare the event is no longer rapidly unfolding. I will try to work on the article as well. Cheers. Terrakyte (talk) 23:13, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Phenomenal!!! I retract my comment about Harvard being the archetype. Politics seems to dominate matters as Arthur Mutambara being a Rhodes Scholar or having worked for NASA is not mentioned. Similarly, Henry Dzinotyiweyi appears to have been a renowned mathematician. Politics! Zimbabwe

Hi Babakathy. Just to say thanks for your contributions to Zimbabwe on here. Great work! I;ve started Wikipedia:WikiProject Zimbabwe/District templates. Perhaps you could help get the articles up and running using infoboxes and create the other templates? Perhap start all of the municipalities of Zimbabwe like Chiremwaremwa? Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Look forward to getting them onto here and up to a start class eventually. Thanks for your photos of the river basins in Zimbabwe, I have a keen interest in river management and water regulation myself. Let me know when you are up for starting more wards and I'll try to help out. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:58, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Technically municipalities is incorrect though isn't it. Arne't they officially called wards? I think I'll move them to wards if that is ok. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:11, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Thats what I thought. I'll remove all the municipality labels to wards now and rename the category Category:Wards of Zimbabwe. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:16, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Well there shouldn't be many objections given that they are the officially recognised names of third-level divisions in Zimbabwe by the government. Actually wikipedia tries to by as official as possible with naming conventions on here by country, so Zimbabwe should be no exception! BTW these district templates I am creating are not only intended for wards, geographical landmarks such as rivers, mountains, lakes etc should be added by district, landmarks such as churches, government buildings in the towns and structures such as dams etc can all be added to the templates so in the end I hope we have a comprehensive coverage of the country by district. Things can only get better I think. Thanks for your images too! Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:32, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

If you are looking to expand Beitbridge try this as a source. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:51, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Perfect. I'll draw up the background for the others so you can enter content. You know Zimbabwe better than me of course!! If you could past {{Gwanda District}} at the foot of articles and add Category:Gwanda District etc to articles related to the this district this will also help improve coordination. Thanks Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:03, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Port Alexa

This site confims its existance. My guess is that it is a port on a river, or some people decided to be funky with their naming! Thanks for helping to cover this area of the world. ~EDDY (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 01:34, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay; I've been holidaying.

One way of improving the article would be to allow me edit it: I'm getting the big "Unauthorised" banner whenever I try. Please advise. Crusoe (talk) 14:38, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

No matter; problem solved. Crusoe (talk) 14:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Gokwe Region

Did you read the article? --Bejnar (talk) 06:30, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

I did write an article on the Gokwe Region and you moved it. Take a look. --Bejnar (talk) 06:35, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. It is better with a small "r". --Bejnar (talk) 06:49, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Gokwe Centre

"capitalise first word of name only" except where the whole phrase is a proper name. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization). --Bejnar (talk) 06:38, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I don't think that Gokwe with growth centre in parentheses is a good name. I have looked at a number of documents, and it appears that the proper name of the place is "Gokwe Centre". The name is not just "Gokwe". So I think that it should be changed back to "Gokwe Centre". --Bejnar (talk) 22:44, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

RE: MDC articles

Thanks for your work on the MDC section. It certainly has come a long way since I've been gone. I will work on adding more sources.--HandGrenadePins (talk) 09:53, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. §FreeRangeFrog 21:12, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

I just caught my son and his friend playing with the computer and I just wanted to apologize for their vulgar comments. I'm sending them to bed and will make sure wikipedia is on my list of child proof sites on my browser. Sorry again. Catherine. 70.75.51.48 (Talk) 07:52, 25 February 2009.

Automatic patrolling of tagged pages at New Page patrol

Hi there. There is a suggestion to get a bot to patrol any New Page that an editor has tagged for CSD, AfD, etc. As someone who patrols a lot, your opinion is particularly welcomed. --GedUK  10:54, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Rhodesian Bush War page

Ok, what would you more specifically suggest for such an edit summary? Sf46 (talk) 23:49, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Cherokee self-identified list

Hi, this list was already there with the Cherokee article. I followed up by looking at wikipedia pages; if they had no mention of Cherokee ancestry, I marked it as "Fact/source needed". Deleted a bunch of low-level models and actresses - everyone doesn't need to be identified; the list could be endless, as so many people could have some ancestry. Forgot that I made the separate "List of Cherokee" article. --Parkwells (talk) 20:16, 2 March 2009 (UTC)--Parkwells (talk) 20:19, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Luangwa River

Hi Babakathy, I have a non-Wiki question to ask you. I'm working on river channel migration, and I found this article on the Luangwa River in Zambia. Would you be able to tell me where I could find data from streamflow gages? I haven't managed to find it myself, but I know it's there. I know it's not quite Zimbabwe where you work, but it's next door, and closer than the US of A. If it would help, I could give you specific gage names, and possibly numbers. Thanks a bunch - and if you don't know, that's OK too. Awickert (talk) 08:58, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of File:Gweru logo.gif

A tag has been placed on File:Gweru logo.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Bvumba

I am confused by some of the edits that you have added to the above article concerning the the 'Mozambique side'. Based only on my memory of travelling extensively around there, the extension into Mozambique exists just as a range of low hills. These are noticeable from Manica town mainly because it is already at a much lower altitude than the Zimbabwean side of the border (about 850 metres) but are themselves way below the mountains on the Zim side. The Mozambican side has none of the character associated with the Bvumba (mountainous terrain and above all the forests and the mist) and are just highland in the same way as the mountains at the top of the Christmas Pass. This is quite clear from looking down on them at the first viewpoint (I think it was called Prince of Wales) and also by going around the Circular drive which shows that the mountains end before the border.--AssegaiAli (talk) 18:30, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Patrollbot

Hey there, I thought (because of your participation in the conversation here) that you would like to know that I coded a bot to mark CSDed AFDed and PRODed new-pages as patrolled. See the bot's discussion for approval here. I would appreciate your comment. NOTE: I am not trying to canvas you, I just wanted some input. Tim1357 (talk) 02:17, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
