Image deletion warning

Several images uploaded by you, including Image:Elamite worshipper.jpg, have been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. If the images' copyright status cannot be verified, they may be deleted. If you have any information on the source or licensing of these images, please provide the necessary information.

Removing {{unverifiedimage}} tags

Please do not removed {{unverifiedimage}} tags from the pages. They are there according to the Wikipedia policies at WP:PUI. You have been told about the listing of some of the images you have uploaded on that page at least 15 days ago, and you had not answered the claims, so the images proceeded to Phase II, which requires putting {{unverifiedimage}} tags everywhere the images are used. If you have any reason why these images should be considered "free" according to Wikipedia policies, please mention so and your reasoning on the WP:PUI page. I have now verified five of your uploaded images, Image:Sassanian silver plate.jpg, Image:Sassanian silver vessels.jpg, Image:Sassanian king.jpg, Image:Derafsh.gif, and Image:13 achaemenid gold earing.jpg. I completed their image page to mention their exact license status, and removed the {{unverifiedimage}} tags from the pages that used them. Licenses I can't verify

Dear Amir85, I checked the sources for three of the other images you have uploaded, Image:E3 5 4a sassanian.jpg, Image:Parthian art 1.jpg, and Image:07b.jpg. The first two come from the State Hermitage Museum website and the last comes from Asianart.com. You have said that "usage allowed with mention of the refernce site". But I cannot find that anywhere on those two websites:

• The first website has a page at http://www.hermitagemuseum.org/html_En/00/hm0_7.html that says: "The contents of this site may not be reproduced, in whole or in part, in any form without the written permission of the State Hermitage Museum."
• The second website does not mention anything about usage being allowed with mention of the reference site. It only says "all text and images © John Eskenazi Ltd." [1].

If you know any page on those websites that allows such usage (mentioning only the reference site), or you have any other reason that this is the case, would you please tell us?

Please note that the Wikipedia license is commercial, not non-commercial. So this violates their copyright. For more information, please see GFDL#Materials for which commercial redistribution is prohibited (Wikipedia is GFDL-licensed). I have put your claim on the WP:PUI page, to see if other Wikipedians confirm your claim.   • I put this claim of yours on the WP:PUI page. We will still need to verify your claim, and for that, as I wrote there, "we need the name of the copyright holder, a contact address, the date is was first prepared or published, and the exact license by the copyright holder". Is your friend the creator of this image himself? If yes, would you please provide the information and the text of his permission and limitations he has specified for the images (like only for non-commercial purposes, mentioning him as the source, etc.)? • Dear Amir85, unfortunately, no commercial use permission is not enough for text in the Wikipedia. They have been OK for images only (only if they have been uploaded before May 19, 2005). If you want to ask for someone's permission to use their copyrighted text, they must agree to license the text under GNU Free Documentation License or a compatible license. no commercial use is no compatible with the GFDL.         • There are still other parts copied, as you know. The three examples above were just examples. If you want to write an article about the Sassanid army that doesn't violate copyright, my best advice is deleting all you have written until now about it, and starting writing them again from an empty page, without looking at the Iran Chamber article or any other. That will make sure you have written it yourself, with only the information you have learned from the Iran Chamber article, not with copyrighted text or structure. roozbeh 22:21, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Battles of Persia

I've changed the nesting of Category:Battles of Persia to be a super-category for the various dynasties and states (similar to Category:Battles of Ancient Greece or Category:Battles of Rome); I hope you don't mind.

Since you seem to know a lot about this topic, perhaps you could clarify a few things I'm not sure about. Should Category:Battles of the Ghaznavid Empire go under Category:Battles of Persia as well? Also, do we need a Category:Battles of the Achaemenid Empire to contain battles fought during the Greco-Persian Wars?

Complaints re copyvios

As I recall, it was Sponsianus who was complaining that he had written an article for Iranchamber, which you had plagiarized. But the record was on your talk page, and has apparently been deleted.

Battle of Kasidiya

Amir, I checked on this article and found that it was a copyvio. I put up the notice -- and immediately afterwards, a new editor who wrote his MA thesis on the battle put up a new version of the article. Usually we're supposed to wait a week before taking down the copyvio and putting the temp page in place. He finished his Masters there and went to Canada for his PhD. I guess that youll only have to rely on web sources for now. But we do have a lot of good stuff on the web. Iran Website...

Merci, I contacted you because I saw all the effort you put in into Iranian topics. The main reason for the Wiki that I'm creating is to have a huge Iranian Information Database for Iranians who might have any questions. The website will include many things such as, our own live 24/7 radio, Iranian TV programs, forums, music, downloads, etc... You ask how you can help, I would appreatiate any help on any section of it. If you want to add information to the Wiki or if you are very stong in a prticular subject about Iran and would like to write articles or want to keep up the sport section, its up to you. Achaemenids/Sassanids

I have plenty of source material regarding the Sassanids, Achaemenids, and ancient Persia in general, but I have to clean up and expand a number of articles first before I can get to that. So probably in about a week or two I'll have enough time to help there. Also, at some point we have to expand the Persian/Zoroastrian mythology articles - big time. Featured Article

Hey, I thought about it and I looked at some of the pages which I thought were good enough to be a featured article cantidate, but they each have their flaws: Iran - It is very messy and it was previously nominated and in its talk page there are the reason why it didn't make it. Tehran - It has a lot of information and it just need to be cleaned up a bit. Persian Empire - Some citations need to be fixed, but other than that I think this is one of our strongest chances in having a featured article.

Sassanid Empire

The sections that I think need particular attention are:

1. "Conflicts" is largely redundant, since the subject matter is already covered in "History"
2. "History" is confusingly laid out. Topics are discussed in incorrect chronological subsections (the first paragraph of "First Golden Era," for example, belongs in "Early History.") Stacking of subsections is sometimes illogical--for instance, "Khosrau I's reforms" should be a subsection of "Second Golden Era," not a parallel section. "Khosrau I's reforms", by the way, also needs to be expanded.
3. "History" also has issues with quality of writing. The prose is at best uninspiring, and at worst baffling and tedious. This problem crops up in other sections, but is probably at its worst in this one. The entire article, however, is in need of a copyedit. I have done some work, but I am not a terribly strong copyeditor.
4. "Important Persian figures..." should either be converted to prose or removed. The second half of "Sassanid army" also needs to be converted from list to prose form. In general, lists are not good, although I do like the timeline at the end.

There are more issues, but these would be good ones to start with. I may take a crack at addressing some of them myself, since I think I'm starting to get a better feel for the structure of the article.

The user Aucaman has been vandalizing Persian people, as well as several other Iran-related articles, claiming that "modern Persians are mix of Arabs and Mongols" editing the article, or adding a dispute tag, based on his own personal assumptions and conclusions without any valid source to support such outrageous revisionist theory. POV

My point of view is that I want the article to remain the same but Aucaman intends to change this paragraph:

"The Persians of Iran are descended from the Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranians, an Indo-European people that migrated to the region during the 2nd millennium BC, as well as indigenous populations such as the Elamites."

to this paragraph:

"The modern Persians are an amalgamation of a wide variety of peoples including the Elamites and the subsequent Iranian, Turkic , Mongol, and Arab invaders."

When I asked him to substantiate his theory of what modern Persians are, he just kept bullying his POV by adding a dispute tag without any valid source to support such outrageous revisionist theory.

Iranian Watchdog

Aucaman and a few others like Heja Helweda and Diyako have been repeatedly and systematically vandalizing the Iran-related topics such as Persian people and Iranian peoples, propagating false information, maliciously editing/disputing/deleting without one shred of proof to backup their wild claims, applying the strawman falsification approach, trying to establish new 'facts" based on their own personal assumptions and beliefs.

In order to prevent this situation, we need to create an Iranian Watchdog on Wikipedia and guard the integrity and quality of all the Wikipedia articles that are related to Iran and Iranians. Please let me know if you think that's a good idea. --ManiF 12:59, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for someone who speaks Farsi well.

Hey there, I'm an Arabic speaker and student of Arabic Literature. As I am sure you are well aware, people often confuse words between the two languages and I am curious for the purposes of the article: Ghoul whether or not the word ghoul appears in Persian as gul/غول I am entirely certain the word is originally Arabic, because of it's relation to a specific root word. However since the word appears in Arabian Nights (Which has significant Persian influence) it would be remiss of me not to look into the Persian word for ghoul, though I suspect it is the same. Motashakkeram yet again, your advise has proven both invaluable and frustrating. Since Pahlavi script originates from Aramaic, and since the word seems to have been in the Arabic lexicon for some time (I say this due to its structure and use) I suspect it may well originate as far back as Aramaic and is shared by both languages. Much like the word "mirror" which seems to have insanely ancient roots, this word is old as hell. This of course entails yet more research, but it is enlightening in a way.
