Hi Acagastya, thank you for the barnstar! It is so nice of you! And I feel like I've accomplished something great. And I'm looking forward to contribute more and more to Wikipedia! :) --Jaaron95 (talk) 06:23, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Acagastya,
... that I applied a very small change to the signature part of your entry at our pledges page a few hours ago?
As you might have noticed, I decided to sort (manually!) all of the page's entries in chronological order yesterday, as this was a task that had been crying to be done for some time.
In passing, I also decided to provide some of the signature details that had been left out by a few editors, mainly the timestamp and/or their signature at the time of making their pledge.
Since there was so much to do, I took a systematic approach and also made some very minor alterations to a few signatures which had small deviations from the original user name—such as yours, where your user name begins with a lower case 'a'.
Since I noticed that you have now reverted my change back to an upper case 'A', I wish to offer an apology in case you might have been offended by my action. But I am hopeful that you will have realized that I was "on a mission" () and that there was nothing personal at all in my attempts at making our page of pledges look a little tidier.
So, thank you for your understanding and forgiveness in case my action has upset you in any way.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook)11:30, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No! Just wait! Don't think I did this because of your edit!
Let me tell you from beginning. I was looking X's Tools for some pages that I had edited because I needed to find some responses to my queries. Then I found that I had edited that typo pledge project page.
I saw my old signature in which I had used a font which (i don't know why) wasn't appearing and thus I hated that signature. So I thought to sign with my new sign. And thus I did.
And my name: Acagastya is the username. Everywhere. Because I had this very username (acagastya) everywhere, I wanted it in lower case here too.
Now, about my name: it is Agastya (I don't hate it). It is also the name of great Indian sage whom I never cared after 5th grade. Agastya seems boring so I write it as aGastya (not in official documents though). By making that edit, i could write my name in a better way in calligraphy. Your edit would not take any user to my userpage but I tell you, this was just a coincidence and please don't take it in a wrong way! I wan not annoyed. Actually I didn't even noticed. It was you how informed me.
Thank you very much for your prompt reply and also for taking the time to put my mind at rest. Thank you also for explaining the subtleties in your name and signature; it's nice and quite clever!
It's good to know that you were not upset in any way; thank you!
Since we are now communicating with each other, would you mind if I asked you a small favour, please? It is because I spent many hours yesterday, re-ordering all the Typo Team pledges in chronological order, I am hoping that you won't mind if I ask you to consider taking one of two actions:
either: keep your pledge as it is (with today's date) and move it to the top of the list, since it is now the most recent pledge;
or: change the date back to "10:37, 24 February 2015" (the original date of your pledge) and keep it where it currently is in the list.
If you agree to take either of these two actions, then the list of all our pledges will be in chronological order again. Thank you for your consideration; if you're too busy doing something else, then please just tell me which of these two actions you'd like to take and I will make the changes myself (with your permission, of course).
Thank you once again for replying to me so soon and for putting my mind at rest. I look forward to receiving your next message, whenever convenient to you.
I'm a little surprised by theseedits of yours. Firstly, while technically the word "welcome" may appear on those users' talk pages before (or not), the {{welcome}} template offers a selection of links that may be helpful for newcomers, and those weren't duplicated earlier on those users' talk pages. Secondly, I don't think removing those templates formally meets the requirements of WP:TPO. I will re-add them. Huon (talk) 11:45, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Talkback
Hello, Acagastya. You have new messages at Komchi's talk page. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Hi Acagastya. I've nixed your question at the Teahouse, for the simple reason that editing anywhere on Wikipedia other than your talkpage is regarded as block evasion, and I don't want you getting into trouble for it. Since your block is self-requested, you get a lot more leeway than other blocked editors, but we are still expected to enforce a block until you ask for it to be lifted, and that means you can't post anywhere except on this talkpage. As regards access to the Teahouse while blocked, there are - in theory, at least - ways of doing this using edit filters, but it's frowned upon. Blocked users (usually) get to keep their talkpages access so they can appeal their block, but there's no reason to let them edit anywhere else - remember, the vast majority of blocks are there to prevent damage to the encyclopedia. In any case, given that the Teahouse is for questions about editing Wikipedia, why would someone who can't edit Wikipedia need to use it?
Blocked editors can of course still use the {{help-me}} template, and that's how they should get attention if they have a question that's not a direct appeal of their block. Yunshui雲水10:41, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing to stop you keeping a log of them here, or using the helpme template to get answers, if you like. You can also feel free to ping me if you want something, as well. Yunshui雲水11:07, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you try to look at the code of my user page, you won't find that WikiBreak text. The page I mentioned is the page where this stuff is located. P.S. idea copied from GSK's page! Thanks aGastya✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 12:03, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My query is what is the purpose of this link. When we click of {{2}} in Equation (2), that URL will appear, which is link to that equation which is just beneath! So is it worthy? Thanks for help in advance! aGastya✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 18:10, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect it is a leftover from a time where there was more text in between (just a guess). If you think it is confusing, just remove it. If someone disagrees, they will revert and you can discuss it. Happy editing! Happy Squirrel(Please let me know how to improve!) 18:54, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Basically yes. As per wp:Brd, a revert is just indication that someone thought the previous version was better and that now you need to discuss it on the talk page. Happy Squirrel(Please let me know how to improve!) 19:11, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just noticed that. And I since realized that it doesn't answer his question anyway; it isn't a Userbox. Brain not working... --Gronk Oz (talk) 09:28, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Acagastya, if you're going to carry on answering Teahouse questions, you'd be better off having access to the Teahouse - using the ping function just adds another layer of confusion for new users, plus other Teahouse hosts won't know whether a question has been answered or not. If you're going to do this, I suggest we remove your block; it clearly isn't having the desired effect since you're still spending lots of time on Wikipedia. Alternatively, if this is a symptom of you seriously struggling to stay away despite your best efforts, I could remove your talkpage access (you could still request unblocking via UTRS or email). Wnat me to do either of these things? Yunshui雲水10:22, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's not technically verboten (leastways, not as far as I know), but it's not especially helpful either - it splits the information into two separate threads, one of which provides no notification that the conversation is being carried on elsewhere, and requires that new users familiarise themselves with the ping function. It also means that the response isn't recorded at the Teahouse, where it belongs. I'd advise heartily against it. Yunshui雲水10:51, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have a problem in uploading image to commons. Should I ask about it here or at c:COM:HD?
Problem is I tried uploading a file. I took some time to fill the bar (that it is being uploaded) and few minutes later. It went to zero! Agh! Then it look so much time filling the bar. And at lest message came Bad Token. What should I do? It occurred twice. Is it a bug or something?
aGastya✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 10:25, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The guys at Commons would probably be more help, but I'd suggest you may have an issue with either the file type or the size. Yunshui雲水10:52, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You already asked at the Commons help desk, and that's indeed the appropriate place for this help request. If the file is available online, a link might help. Unless you have a very slow connection, uploading 6 MB should not take a few minutes. Maybe there was something wrong with your connection? Huon (talk) 20:09, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon: Yes as per Yunshui's reply, I asked there but still I didn't get the answer. It took 2-3 minutes to upload and then aGain went to zero. (In India, the internet speed isn't much as that in other European and American countries). You need the link: here it is LINK. But it is cropped. Still What does it mean by bad token? aGastya✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 20:21, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Woah! It was uploading @Huon: the bar was full and aGain it arrived to 0! It took 4 minutes for filling full and now in second, 4 minutes. Wow! It went for 3rd time and now 4th! aGastya✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 20:50, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I'd suspect session data gets lost because your connection is disrupted during the upload, but I'm not an expert. If this is the file you want uploaded, I could try and upload it for you, but you'd need to add something on the license it's released under to Instagram. Huon (talk) 20:56, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Yunshui: Query is this deleted page is actually notable but was written in such a fashion that it appeared insignificant. So why it shows it is deleted 2 times? Was it recreated? And I wished to create it so can I have a look at the deleted ones? (just now I came to know about userification) aGastya✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 19:27, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Both times it was created it was a one-or-two sentence stub - the first version was totally unsourced, the second time out it had this press release as its only source. There's really nothing useable there, but if you want to have a go at recreating from scratch, feel free (you will of course need to be unblocked first!). Yunshui雲水20:37, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The microscope? Very nice, professional-looking shot - the composition and focus are excellent. Are you studying photography? Yunshui雲水21:22, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes the microscope. Thank you for the compliments! Unfortunately I am not studying photography! It was last week of our schooling and no teachers had a problem that we bring camera to school. That day, I borrowed my sisters' camera as my camera was really really old. Well one question: is there something that displays any uploaded photo in 800*600 resolution? Because I always find this ratio! aGastya✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 21:30, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
