Fourth of July, or bust, Thanks!
The Fourth of July, or bust, Barnstar
I award you this Barnstar for your solid, witty, creative, supportive, learned, timely, cheerful, eloquent, and/or otherwise generally great contributions on U. S. National Historic Landmarks' articles. Yippee o yay, we pretty much met our goal of a well-started article for each of 2,442 NHLs by today!
Thanks, and have a great Fourth of July! -- Doncram, 4 July 2008
Thank you for your awesome contributions of photos and articles within List of NHLs in NC and List of NHLs in DC! It is a pleasure to me to contribute somewhat to the structure of such lists, when you and others are coming in to fill in the more difficult and substantial details! doncram (talk) 19:23, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
I noticed you've been offline for almost a week, so just wanted to say I hope you're getting better. Think of this message as cyber chicken soup. Jeffpw (talk) 05:24, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for all of the get-well wishes. I wasn't expecting such a long health break. I was just released from the hospital. I've been there for over a week and it feels like I've broken out of prison! I'm such a nerd because I've been wanting to get online and edit, but I was too ill the first few days and when I finally got my hands on a laptop, the hospital's broadband service for patients and guests was down. Go figure. Anyway, I was still able to see the fireworks on Friday night. My room had a great view of the Washington Monument and the display is located right next to it. I invited several other patients in my room and we had our own little celebration. I'll be online, but not editing as much for the next several days (I think.) I'm still not feeling that great and looking at the computer screen is currently making me dizzy for some reason. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend (well, those of you that are in America). APKPRAISE JEEBUS00:15, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
APK: We're thinking of you. We'll hold the 'pedia together while you focus on getting better. Either that, or we'll let it break and leave the mess for you to clean up. Either way, we win! - Philippe00:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
SO GLAD to get an update'!!!!!! I was really getting worried, and startng to think darhk thoghts,
Thanks guys. I already had a doctor's appointment this morning and I just frikkin got out last night. Geez, they don't know how to give a bitch a break. My watchlist makes me want to scream. So many things need fixing. APKhow u durrin13:37, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Glad to see you back, but take care of yourself first; then, Wikipedia iff (if and only if) you feel up to it! AletaSing19:44, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I know you like YouTubies, so for sheer idiotic, turn off your brain fun, this one will make you, hopefully, feel a bit better. Its even got a NYT article [1] and the music is strangely appealing. And for a change of pace, here. And another, cuter one here. Maybe you should just let most of that watchlist slide? Call it part of recuperation. — BecksTalk to me11:01, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
YouTube sure helped me when I needed it. I've watched thousands and made hundreds. Think of it as chicken soup for the cyber soul. Jeffers1961 if you want to see how I have warped the YouTube community. Jeffpw (talk) 14:17, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm enjoying these videos. It's been easier for me to watch youtubes instead of write an article the past day or so because I'm finding it hard to concentrate on anything. Jeff, I'll hit you up on yt and Aleta, I was wondering if you had a typo with "iff." ;-) I learn something new everyday. APKlike a lollipop22:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible) system - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot22:48, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Good to have you as an official member, as you've already added so much. Great contributions on NHRP properties, too.--Parkwells (talk) 11:30, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks man. You've helped me alot with those articles (Clarence Lightner, Leonard Hall, etc.) and I know I keep talking about writing an article about African-American history in Raleigh, but I'm going to try writing one about Georgetown's history first. It's on alot smaller scale and would be good practice. I'm kind of overwhelmed at the info I've found for Raleigh. I guess it's a good thing I've found so much to write about, but bad in the sense I don't know where to begin. APKlike a lollipop22:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Have 2¢?
If you want to put your two cents in regarding the Pteridomania article that's being discussed for deletion the discussion is here: [2]. You had some interaction with the proposing editor yesterday [3]. Have a fun day. - House of Scandal (talk) 13:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I haven't been following whatever you guys are debating, but Collectonian, I didn't warn you about anything. It was a very civil reminder that you shouldn't template regulars. HoS's talk page is on my watchlist and I noticed you had done just that. If he did the same thing to you, then I wouldn't know. Your page isn't being watched. You seem like a great editor who has been here for several years, but looking at recent conversations on your talk page it appears you might need a day or two away from the Wiki. I'm not trying to sound like a pussy, but if you read the conversation three topics up, I'm not in the best of shape right now and physically and mentally I can't really deal with arguments. APKlike a lollipop22:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Hope you feel better soon! The matters in question are being resolved entirely in my favor and I wasn't trying to recruit additional allies or anything. I can, however, see that it may have looked like that and do apologize for the faux pas. Take care of yourself, okay? - House of Scandal (talk) 22:42, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
That's no problem. I'm feeling better and for some reason, my first article since my break is going to be about a place where lesbians get drunk. I blame it on the medicine. APKlike a lollipop23:15, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Are these sexy drunk lesbians, or sad drunk lesbians? Can you point me in the right direction? --Moni3 (talk) 23:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I was rather entertained, however. No one has ever correctly guessed the inspiration for my username, though. Leave it up to someone probably just as twisted as I am. --Moni3 (talk) 23:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi buddy, I would like to do a DYK for Michael Jackson's 50th birthday on August 29. I've never done one before and I would really appreciate your help. Luckily he is releasing a compilation album on his birthday, King of Pop (album), so that would be nice to talk about. I understand you are ill at the moment, I hope you get better soon, get back to me in your own time, there is no rush. Wishing you the best. Regards. — Realist2 (Who's Bad?) 19:34, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Please forgive my presumptuous response to a question posed to someone else, but I believe that showing the notability of Jackson’s 50th birthday would be a difficult task. Such an article might soon be deleted. If the celebration(s) receive/s more than cursory mention in the press, perhaps it might survive but I would not bet on it. - House of Scandal (talk) 19:46, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I didn't interpret Realist2's post to mean that he wants to create an article about Jackson's 50th birthday, but instead about something related to him (such as a new album), in honor of his birthday. I may be incorrect, of course. AletaSing19:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Im completely unaware of the process, I never imagined notability was a decider, maybe the 25th anniversary of Thriller (Thriller 25, which has already passed) would have been better, that got a lot of attention. Darn. I dont think I would be able to make an entire article on his 50th birthday unless some really amazing stuff is announced soon. Maybe just doing it on King of Pop (album) which is released on his birthday to celebrate his birthday. It has some notability outside of the birthday issue because its one of/the only album where all tracks are voted for by fans. — Realist2 (Who's Bad?) 19:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Notability is a decider of whether any article exists or not. It's nothing specific to DYK. There is a rule that DYK's must be no more than 5 days old. Well, it's more of a guideline. Articles that are "slightly past their expiration date" have been used for holidays (Passover, St. Patrick's Day, etc.). The DYK editors might be less interested in letting King of Pop (album) counter guidelines for Jackson's b-day, but I don't suppose there's any harm in trying. - House of Scandal (talk) 20:07, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
If a suitable topic were chosen, Realist could always work on it in his sandbox and then move it to mainspace within the five days before MJ's b'day. AletaSing20:10, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah I see, thats a wierd guideline, it must be really hard to build an article to be viewed in 5 days lol. I think its worth a shot anyway, "Did you know its MJ'S 50th today?" sounds cool, but thats just my bias lol. Maybe he will announce something else aswell which I could work on in my sandbox like suggested. I would still be interested to hear APK's view. I definately think MJ's birthday will be reported worldwide, its already being talked about in newspapers like The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian. — Realist2 (Who's Bad?) 20:17, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I'm just now getting your message. I'll help with whatever you need and look over notability for the topic you have in mind. APKPRAISE JEEBUS00:15, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
It's no problem, glad your better. I'm still interested in this idea of "did you know it's MJ's 50th today and he released a greatest hits compilation made up of songs choosen entirely by fans to celebrate". Do you think we can do anything like that? I really should get a DYK under my belt. — Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 12:04, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
If there's an actual album that is being released for his birthday and the album has RS to meet notability requirements, then yeah, it could warrant an article. The article would have to be at least 1500 characters (minus references, infobox, see also, etc.) to be eligible for DYK. It's funny. I said the same thing about wanting a GA under my belt when you looked at the Old Stone House article. ;-) APKlike a lollipop22:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I looked into it more and some of the release dates in different countries come out slightly before his birthday, thus I don't think it will work after all. Nevermind, I might be taking the Michael Jackson article to FA tomorrow instead. Shame, I'm sure I'll get a DYK sometime, hehe. — Realist2 (Speak) 01:52, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Heh.. that was a really long time ago, I don't even remember the edit. It was likely during my vandal patrol using Lupin's anti-vandal script before my computer died on me(it won't turn on :/). It was likely that I was tired or something, or there was an error. Either way, I don't remember it, and I hardly use RB like I did for that edit.— DædαlusContribs /Improve22:20, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
No. You turned a civil comment on your talk page into a temper tantrum because you couldn't have your way in regards to editing my talk page. APK, I'd like to politely ask that you reconsider your decision to use Image:Nihang_Singh_with_Big_Turban.jpg on your userpage - especially since you label him as the "Supreme Leader of Al-Gayda". I accept that you meant no particular ill will, but describing this man - a religious soldier wearing ceremonial garb, and whose face is clearly identifiable from the photo - as being part of a (fictitious) organization which can be considered either terrorist, gay-rights, or a combination thereof... well, that's just not okay.
I do support gay rights, mind you. And in an ideal world, there would be no more negative consequences to our wrongly describing someone as "gay" than there would be to our wrongly describing someone as "left-handed". But you know full well that this is not an ideal world. A sense of humor doesn't necessarily translate from one culture to another, and your joke could potentially have serious effects on this man's life (and even if you're going to be stubborn about the "gay" comment, think about the "terrorist" connotations).
DS, do you really believe that a) a Nihang Sikh or one of his contemporaries is going to view APK's user page, and/or b) APK's description of this man is going to affect this man's reputation? If he's a Nihang Sikh, he's built up his reputation in a militaristic order and has a religious following. Speaking of "being reasonable" - a wikipedia page is not going to affect him, his reputation, or his following. Even if one of his followers saw the photo on APK's page, there are so many other reasons he would hate APK than this photo. No offense, APK :) Finally, the whole concept of Al-Gayda is so ludicrous that I cannot even imagine someone thinking it could exist and/or be some sort of terrorist-decorating institution.
Now, can we go back to editing articles and making an encyclopedia? And maybe have a little chuckle at the creativeness of other editors? -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs)15:56, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
