It was released in January 1993 as the second single from the album Lonesome Standard Time. The song reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.[1] Content"Standing Knee Deep in a River (Dying of Thirst)" is a ballad, described by David Howell of the Edmonton Journal, as having a theme of "being grateful for what we have".[2] Other versionsJoe Cocker covered the song on his 1994 album Have a Little Faith,[3] as did Don Williams on his 1992 album Currents.[4]
