Sarah Webb is an Irish writer.

Biography

Webb writes for both children and adults and has had her work published in multiple languages across a number of countries.[1] Webb completed her degree in English and History of Art at Trinity College Dublin.[2] She started as a writer while working full time in a bookshop and writing at night.[3][4]

Today Webb is considered a significant force for children's books in Ireland. In 2015 she was awarded the CBI Book of the Year Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Children's Books in Ireland.[5] Her books Blazing a Trail: Irish Women Who Changed the World, illustrated by Lauren O’Neill, and A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea, illustrated by Steve McCarthy, have both won Irish Book Awards.[5][6][7] Webb was the Dun Laoghaire library Writer in Residence for 2016-2017[8] and she has worked as a children's programmer for the MoLI – Museum of Literature Ireland[9] and various book festivals such as 'Mountain to Sea'.[10][11] Webb has returned to working in bookselling through the bookshop 'Halfway Up the Stairs' in Greystones.[11]

Background

Webb was born in Dalkey.[2] Her father was a quantity surveyor and her mother worked as a teacher.[4] She has three children and lives in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin and spends time in Castletownshend, West Cork.[3][12]
