At the time of the 2006 National Census, the rural district's population (as a part of the former Bam and Safiabad District of Esfarayen County) was 7,683 in 1,882 households.[6] There were 7,718 inhabitants in 2,113 households at the following census of 2011.[7] The 2016 census measured the population of the rural district as 6,558 in 2,098 households. The most populous of its 67 villages was Qanbar Baghi, with 704 people.[2]
In 2023, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Bam and Safiabad County, and the rural district was transferred to the new Central District.[3]
