Richard TilbrookRichard James Tilbrook CVO (born 11 April 1962[citation needed]) is a British civil servant and Clerk of the Privy Council. EducationTilbrook was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Guildford and went on to read classics at Queens’ College, Cambridge, where he gained a First and sang counter-tenor in the Chapel Choir.[1][2] CareerAfter university, Tilbrook joined GCHQ as a codebreaker before being seconded to the Cabinet Office to write intelligence-based assessments for the Joint Intelligence Committee. He later moved to the Department for International Development. In 2020 he took up positions running the British honours system as the Prime Minister's Appointments Secretary advising the prime minister on the appointment of bishops, deans and lord-lieutenants, and serving as Clerk of the Privy Council.[2][1] He sparked upset by attempting to curb the size of the growing Privy Council and determining that only a limited number would be able to attend the Accession Council.[3] In his role as Clerk of the Privy Council, he played a key role at the Accession Council where Charles III was proclaimed King. The following text, which was published as a supplement to The London Gazette of 12 September, was read by Tilbrook as the clerk of the Accession Council:[4][5]
Personal lifeTilbrook is a communicant Anglican, worshipping at St Andrew's Church, Naunton, in the Diocese of Gloucester.[1] Tilbook was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2022 New Year Honours.[6] References
