Bangladeshi film director
Nuhash Humayun (Bengali : নুহাশ হুমায়ূন ) is a Bangladeshi film director and screenwriter . His works include Moshari ,[ 1] [ 2] Pett Kata Shaw ,[ 3] [ 4] Sincerely Yours, Dhaka .[ 5] [ 6] His theatrical debut Sincerely Yours, Dhaka [ 7] [ 8] had its world premiere at the 2018 Busan International Film Festival and is currently on Netflix . His upcoming film Moving Bangladesh will be released in 2023.[ 9] [ 10] [ 11] [ 12]
Early life
Nuhash Humayun was born on January 1, 1992, in Dhaka, Bangladesh to Humayun Ahmed (d. 2012) and Gultekin Khan.[ 13] His parents divorced when he was 11 years old. He stayed with his mother. His father was a novelist , dramatist , screenwriter , filmmaker , songwriter , scholar , and professor . After the divorce, his father married actress Meher Afroz Shaon .
Nuhash was 20 years old when his father died on July 19, 2012, from cancer. He attended his fathers funeral when his father's corpse went to Bangladesh from New York .[ 14] [ 15] Nuhash's grandfather Faizur Rahman Ahmed was a Bangladeshi freedom fighter who died during the war. Zafar Iqbal and Ahsan Habib are his paternal uncles. His paternal aunts are Sufia Haider, Momtaz Shahid and Rukhsana Ahmed. He has three sisters named Nova Ahmed, Sheila Ahmed , and Bipasha Ahmed. He has 2 half brothers named Nishad Humayun and Ninith Humayun. He had a half sister named Lilaboti who didn't survive for very long. His sister Shila Ahmed worked as a child actress in their father's projects.
Career
Humayun's early works include short films like Paperfrogs , 700 Taka , and Pizza Bhai . He first came to the limelight after his film Sincerely Yours, Dhaka was selected for Bangladesh's entry for the 93rd Academy Awards.[ 16]
He became famous for his web series Pett Kata Shaw . His direction and metaphors in the series were praised. This series was selected for the Harbor section in the 52nd edition of IFFR .[ 3]
His short film Moshari won awards in many international festivals. Consequently, he was signed by Anonymous Content and Creative Artists Agency in 2022.[ 17] Jordan Peele and Riz Ahmed became executive producers of the film.[ 18] It is the first-ever Oscar qualifying film from Bangladesh.
After the success of Moshari , American over-the-top platform Hulu gave him the chance to direct an episode of their show Bite-Size Halloween . The episode is titled "Foreigners Only".[ 19]
