Nicolae Testemițanu
Nicolae Testemițanu (1 August 1927 – 20 September 1986) was a Moldovan and Soviet surgeon, hygienist, and politician. Political careerUpon graduating, he worked at the District Hospital in Riscani as a surgeon.[1] He was Rector of State University of Medicine and Pharmacy from 1959 to 1963, where he founded four faculties there – Dentistry (1959), Advanced Training of Doctors (1963), Preventive Medicine (1963), and Pharmacy (1964).[2] He served as minister of health of Moldavian SSR between 1963 and 1968, after which he was demoted for allegedly promoting too many autochthonous medical personnel, contrary to Soviet Russification policies.[3] Upon his dismissal, he returned to working at the Department of Social Medicine and Health Care Organization.[4] HonoursThe State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chișinău is named after him.
