After the result of this RfD discussion, I have this request to make: could the creation of any title that contains any instance of at least two consecutive apostrophes ('') be added to the title blacklist? The fact that any title with those specifications has the potential to cause wiki markup issues when linked in an article seems to outweigh the usefulness of their existence. Addition to the above request
@Jackmcbarn: I just realized part of my request above that I completely overlooked; should the creation of new usernames with at least two consecutive apostrophes be blacklisted as well? I mean, I can only imagine how annoying it would be for a new user to create their name with at least two consecutive apostrophes ... just to not be able to create their own user page, as well as having their talk page essentially blocked since it could not be created by most editors, including themselves. I'm not sure it should. The only cases where apos cause an issue is when there are 2, 3, or 5 of them. Even then, it's not too big of an issue because the server encodes them when used as links and the display title can be overridden to show the actual apos in cases where they are appropriate. Piped links can be used in linking to the articles. Not really sure where the issue for this is, other than making adjustments on pages where it belongs requires some technical know-how and can be an annoyance. — {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c)16:44, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Jack, it is reasonable for anything that uses feet and inches or degree, minutes, and seconds to be searched for with '' (double ') and should have redirects from such pages. It's also reasonable for it to be part of a username if the user expected to have that kind of formatting in their name (and there is no policy against having usernames with embedded formatting). — {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c)18:35, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

If they really wanted their user page to look that way, it is possible with a little tinkering. Also, they might not care what the display title looks like. I don't disagree it was a horrific hack, but it would work for users that keep their userpage short enough to prevent scrolling (I could have tinkered with it further to make it work a little better if I was so inclined. I was not. Not that much hard to copy and past the username, simply copy from URL. Anyways. While I agree it is very useful and productive in article space, I think setting restrictions on what users can and cannot have for usernames that aren't documented as having consensus in WP:UPOL is a bad idea. My thoughts: links to any page that have consecutive apostrophes are a bad idea due to the original reason why I requested that the titles be blacklisted. User names are no exception to this thought, given that if I want to ping or mention an editor with consecutive apostrophes in their username, I am now adding to the problem, and not by choice. (Well, I could choose not to ping them, but then I would have no way to use the echo system to communicate with them, so it's a lose-lose situation.) Steel1943 (talk) 22:15, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Of course. I don't object to the idea, I just think that all of the creation rules should be as clear as can be so that people know exactly why the requested name doesn't work... As an account creator, I've had instances when I've ended up wasting way too much time trying to figure out what rule was hit so I can appropriately respond to the requester. About talk page creation
I was reviewing a discussion at MediaWiki talk:Titleblacklist/Archive 3#Talk page creation, and I was just wondering: is it technically possible to have the blacklist restrictions excluded from either talk pages with an existing corresponding pages or talk pages period? Would recommend using something like the existing .*Dav.*\bCote.*(film|movie|director|actor).* (created for a similar socking case) with no newaccount restriction, to catch all plausible formations of an article about him - the sillier stuff at his sockpuppet archive ("Luap Restsae") would be obvious enough not to last long or be taken seriously by readers. --McGeddon (talk) 23:42, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
I added .*paul easter.* but not the actor/director matches because the article has been re-created under titles such as "Suffolk director" and "P A U L..." etc. You get the idea. This will cut down some, but the title blacklist is not a silver bullet unfortunately. @Nakon: Nah, that was me not paying attention :) I'm not sure how we'd encode this in an edit filter, but if you want to give it a go, definitely. Even if it cuts down on the number of re-created titles. Keep in mind though, this guy is just angry at Wikipedia. Role accounts
I'd like to see the following added as I have seen a fair few accounts like this, and it saves the user trouble if they are notified up-front:
You can't create the account "$2" because it appears to represent a group or role. Our username policy says that usernames must not be promotional, and they must represent an individual, not a group, organization, or product. Please try another username that complies with policy. Alternatively you can ask for approval for a username, you can do so by filing a request at Wikipedia:Request an account.
It would be possible to add other likely signs, for example
.*\s(inc|gmbh|ltd|plc)\.?
of course, should someone so desire.

Hmm well there are 6,081 accounts ending with "group", 2,616 have ever edited, and of those 1,414 are not blocked. The second hundred are listed at User:Rich_Farmbrough/temp53 of these "User:Bloodgroup" seems acceptable (but actually isn't), and "Basedgroup" understandable (they used the words from the captcha as their account name) but not permitted. A total of 16,910 edits were made by these accounts (so far). The only other acceptable names I can think of are variants of "Agegroup"adn mathematical stuff like "cyclic group" or "infinite group".
I would say that "media" is similar. "massmedia", "magneticmedia" or "mixedmedia" might be acceptable, but the vast majority are not and will result in the editor being told to change their account name. The media accounts have committed 34,761 edits.

I'm hesitant to add it to the blacklist unless there's additional occurrences. I won't deny this request should another administrator feel otherwise, but I don't think that this incident is up to the level of abuse that would require blacklisting. Thanks, Nakon23:03, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Escort service phone number
Have had a bunch of socks (User:Avikumar333, User:Seemarani12, User:Shivkumar1111) all promoting the same escort service with a phone number in the title, recently. Block Vicky Martin Singh
There's been an attempt to add an article for Vicky Martin Singh under various names, including Vicky martin (Song Writer) and Vickymartin.singh. I've recently blocked an IP that was trying to get around this and post the article on their talk page as well. (I don't think that we could probably do anything about that, but if so then that'd probably be a good idea.) The IP is very likely Vicky85144 evading a block. So far they haven't tried re-making anything in the mainspace but the IP is persistent so I think that it's likely only a matter of time before they attempt doing this again. Xaosflux (or any one else who can assist with this), in lieu of the fact that it seems as though DumbBOT's operator may or may not be able to respond in a timely manner, can this edit be reverted, as well as also adding pages that start with "Category:Possibly unfree files from" to the list as it seems that DumbBOT is still creating daily WP:PUF categories even though that has since been shut down? Request addition of a Bajotz filter. He gets creative with his spelling so something like this to start: .*[bظ].*?[aáàâäãǎāăąå].*?[jĵ].*?[o0óòôöõǒōŏ]+.*?[tțť].*?[zźžż]?.*
We need to have the name Davide Anselmi protected in some format since there are attempts by various socks to get his article recreated. See this, this, and this for the rationale. I'd also recommend protecting against creation of Toward the Tower. It looks like they're used to getting around the title salts, so blacklisting these as titles would be helpful. Please consider adding .*[Kk]ean\s*[Rr]abuyo.* to the blacklist. Several socks of TV5Ozamiz are making attempts to recreate the article (possibly an autobiography) under various titles with parenthetical disambiguation; see [1], [2], and [3].Sixth of March07:05, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
Alexander Asiedu and Alex Asiedu have been deleted at least once under each name, and Draft:Alexander Asiedu has just been recreated for a second (or third) time. I'd like the string blacklisted, and here's the detail:
IIRC, this is a target of SPAs, so whether it's paid or not, I don't know, but we've had SPIs and COINs related to the subject before. As far as content goes, IIRC, the first draft was moved into mainspace after being declined and was deleted, it was recreated as Alex Asiedu and deleted, it was recreated as Alexander Asiedu, deleted as recreation of deleted content, requested to be userfied/put back into draft by an editor who then approved it to make a POINT (or BATTLEGROUND), and was AfDed again. I see now that the draft has been recreated with the same material that was deemed unacceptable previously, and declined once again. MSJapan (talk) 18:32, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

So, the person behind the Junior5a outing is now apparently harassing Zzuuzz by mispelling his name as "ZUUZUZ" into article names. I'm assuming "Zzuzz" is already on the blacklist, but I could be wrong. This is the followup to the repeated Junior5a outing and harassing that made me get "Junior5a" on the title blacklist. Blacklist addition request for spam (Sept. 20, 2016)
I request to block the titles Jeux Star, Jeux star and, just to be sure, JEUX STAR. My request is related to a massive spam added by SOCINCWORLD, on 11 wikis (all pages deleted and user warned on major WP). He is mainly using some little WP (in terms of active users and articles) to create pages in which spam this company (see for example cr:ᐘᑧᔸᓮᓯ or tw:Jeux Star). All the details of his activity are located here (meta): it's a request for a goblal lock. Anyway, also the jeuxstar's website should be blacklisted (I dunno if this is the right page). IMHO, adding to the blacklist this pages and the webiste, this massive spam should end immediatly, avoiding further sockpuppets that will have no tools to spam again. Since the Gadget and Gadget definition namespaces are inactive and uneditable pending phab:T31272, it makes a lot of sense to lock their talk namespaces and keep them clean for now. When trying to move Sää´mođđâz to Sääʹmođđâz, the following error is shown: "Sää´mođđâz" cannot be moved to "Sääʹmođđâz", because the title "Sääʹmođđâz" is on the title blacklist. If you feel that this move is valid, please consider requesting the move first.
Why is this title blacklisted?
See the use of the modifier letter prime ʹ instead of symbol acute accent ´ in the introduction line of the article. The substitution of the prime by acute accent comes from a problem with keyboard input since the acute accent is commonly on keyboard layouts while letter prime isn’t, but typographically the letter prime is correct in Skolt Sami. --Moyogo/ (talk)09:05, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Filthy Frank
I was wondering if we could blacklist any title that has the name "Filthy Frank" in it or maybe any article that uses that specific phrase? The reason for this is that there has been a fairly continuous campaign to get Filthy Frank a Wikipedia article outside of Harlem Shake (meme). He originated the meme, but it went far beyond him and he's gone through multiple AfDs that all ended with the consensus to delete the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Filthy Frank and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/George Miller (entertainer). We probably can't blacklist George Miller since the name is relatively common, but we can at least prevent someone from trying to get around the article saltings to create a new article.
I'd especially appreciate if we could keep someone from putting the name in another article because there has been a lot of vandalism at Chef (film), from people trying to add two of his videos to the article despite clear indication that they are not notable enough to be added. I've semi-protected the page, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone is working at getting autoconfirmed so they can re-add them, given that attempts to add him to Wikipedia in general have apparently been going on since 2014. I'm honestly tempted to start blocking people whose only edits are to try to recreate this article. This is pretty ridiculous. I blocked the guy who made that article. Given that he tried going around the salted titles and that the fandom seems to be fairly aware of the whole Wikipedia stuff, it's unlikely that he didn't know that doing that would be a bad idea and I'd wager that anyone else that doesn't reserve their FF edits to AfC would likely be equally aware. I found an attempt to add him into the article Killing of Harambe, which I've removed. I left a note on the talk page about this so that they can keep an eye out. @Tokyogirl79: Agree with all the above - if there is significant disruption an edit filter may work, but the addition of (filthy|papa).*?frank(u)? is likely to prevent the majority of creations. Filthy Frank has a number of names -- samtartalk or stalk09:30, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, but I don't think I really have anything to add here. I came across the first(?) AfD (this), then when it was redirected I saw someone restore his name to List of YouTubers via a different title, George Miller (entertainer). CSD declined so sent it back to AfD. Not familiar with other creations, though I did remove incoming links. I'm a little concerned about blacklisting (and don't know the range of technical options for blacklisting anything beyond specific article titles and external links), since it makes sense to mention him at the Harlem Shake article, and he's mentioned in the biographies of some other youtubers that are notable. — Rhododendritestalk \\ 13:32, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Examples of filenames that match are "File:Foo .jpg", "File:Foo,.png", "File:Foo.jpeg.svg", "File:Foo,pdf.gif", "File:Foo,tif .tiff", "File:Foo,jpg,.jpg". Extensions come from Special:Upload. I estimate about 12–15 uploads per month with this issue. Some instances: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 The entries would not have any effect on existing titles (folks could edit re-upload to these without a problem). I've tested and verified that the regexes work as expected at the testwiki.
It's [[MediaWiki:Titleblacklist|not possible]] to upload a file with the name specified, likely because the filename incorrectly contains a double-extension, or what resembles two filename extensions, or there is unnecessary punctuation at the end of the filename. Please go back and remove the double extension.
