^Yerevan has no official term for its status as a first-level division.
^Nassau is under direct control of the Bahamian government and is not part of any district.
^ abPorto-Novo is the official capital and houses the National Assembly. However, the rest of the Beninese government, along with twenty-one embassies, are located in Cotonou.
^ abNaypyidaw is the official capital since 2006 and houses the entire Myanma government. However, because this transfer was completely unknown until it had already occurred, forty-one embassies remain in the former capital, Yangon.
^Gitega is the official capital since January 16, 2019. However, the National Assembly, the twenty embassies, along with rest of the Burundian government, are currently located in the former capital, Bujumbura. All branches of the Burundian government are expected to relocate to Gitega in about three years.

^Palikir is the official capital and houses the entire Micronesian government and one embassy. However, three embassies remain in the former capital, and current capital of the Pohnpei State, Kolonia.
^Sucre is the official capital since 2009 and houses the Supreme Tribunal of Justice. However, the rest of the Bolivian government, along with thirty-one embassies, remain in Bolivia's former capital, La Paz.
^Yangon is spread out to include townships from North, South and East Yangon in addition to the entirety of West Yangon.
^Belmopan is the official capital since 1970 and houses the entire Belizean government and seven embassies. However, six embassies remain in Belize's former capital, Belize City.
