Journal of Applied Philosophy
The Journal of Applied Philosophy (JOAP) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Society for Applied Philosophy and co-edited by Avery Kolers (University of Louisville) and Tina Rulli (University of California, Davis). It covers a broad spectrum of issues in all areas of applied philosophy, including work on the environment, medicine, science, engineering, policy, law, politics, economics, and education. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2022 impact factor of 1.1, ranking it 29th out of 189 journals in the category "Philosophy" and 41st out of 57 journals in the category "Ethics".[1] Annual Essay PrizeThe Journal of Applied Philosophy awards an annual prize of £1,000 to the best article published in the year's volume.[2]
Society for Applied Philosophy Annual LecturesEach year since 2010, the Journal of Applied Philosophy has published the Annual Lecture hosted by the Society of Applied Philosophy.[3]
Charles Mills PrizeIn 2023, JOAP announced a new prize in honor of the late Charles W. Mills, who had served as an editorial board member of the Journal. The Prize, in the amount of £1,500, is awarded annually for an outstanding paper published in the journal in the spirit, and on the themes, of Mills’ work, including racial injustice, philosophy of race, non-ideal theory, and ideology.
