Ionia is a census-designated place (CDP) in Ionia Township, Jewell County, Kansas, United States.[1] As of the 2020 census, the population was 17.[2] HistoryIonia was homesteaded in 1869 and settled in 1870.[3] In 1871, a post office opened in Ionia, which was discontinued in 1982.[4] Demographics

There were 19 housing units at an average density of 19.5 per square mile (7.5/km2).[6][7] The racial makeup was 100.0% (17) white or European American (100.0% non-Hispanic white), 0.0% (0) black or African-American, 0.0% (0) Native American or Alaska Native, 0.0% (0) Asian, 0.0% (0) Pacific Islander or Native Hawaiian, 0.0% (0) from other races, and 0.0% (0) from two or more races.[8] Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.0% (0) of the population.[9] Of the 9 households, 22.2% had children under the age of 18; 33.3% were married couples living together; 33.3% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present. 33.3% of households consisted of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[6][10] The percent of those with a bachelor’s degree or higher was estimated to be 0.0% of the population.[11] 0.0% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 17.6% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 58.8% who were 65 years of age or older.
