Harriet Holman is a Republican member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing the 102nd District since 2024. Upon her election, she became the only Black Republican woman serving in the South Carolina state legislature.
Holman served on Dorchester County Council as a Democrat before switching affiliation to the Republican Party in 2022.[3][4] She was appointed to fill the vacant district one seat in 2018 by Governor Henry McMaster.[5] Holman defeated a rival to win the Republican primary for her Council District seat.[6]
On February 19, 2024, Holman announced her bid to challenge Democratic incumbent Joseph H. Jefferson for South Carolina House Seat District 102.[7]
Holman defeated Jefferson to win the general election.[8][9][10]
Personal life
Holman is married to Herman Holman. In 2019, Holman's son, Tonie Jackson Jr., died in a fire that destroyed the family home.[11]
