McDaniel attended high school at Paul VI Catholic High School. In his high school career, he played both basketball and football.[1] Coming out of high school, McDaniel was rated as a four-star recruit, the number 14 overall point guard, and the 83rd best player in the class of 2022.[2] McDaniel held offers from schools such as UConn, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Penn State.[3] McDaniel ultimately decided to commit to play college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines.[4][5]
College career
Michigan
Freshman season
In McDaniel's first career start, he scored 15 points, along with seven assists, and three steals, as he helped Michigan to a 90–75 win over Minnesota.[6] In a game against Wisconsin, McDaniel scored a career-high 20 points.[7] McDaniel finished his freshman season playing in 34 games with 26 starts, where he averaged 8.6 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 3.6 assists per gamer, and 1.1 steals per game.[8]
Sophomore season
In Michigan's season opener, McDaniel scored 22 points and eight assists in a win over UNC Asheville.[9] In a game against Oregon, McDaniel knocked down seven threes, racking up 33 points.[10] In a game against the Florida, McDaniel scored 33 points, while also adding eight rebounds, and five assists.[11] On January 10, 2024, McDaniel was suspended for Michigan's next six road games due to academic issues.[12][13] On February 27, McDaniel was reinstated from his suspension.[14] In the 2023–24 season, McDaniel played in and started 26 games for the Wolverines averaging 16.3 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, 4.7 assists per game, and 1.1 steals per game.[15] After the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, McDaniel entered the NCAA transfer portal.[16][17]
