Bek Hyun-jin (Korean: 백현진; RR: Baek Hyeonjin; born June 29, 1972) is a South Korean musician, actor and installation artist. He began his musical career as a member of the Uhuhboo Project in 1995, and made his debut as an actor in Flower Island in 2001.[1][2]
In addition to his real name, he used the stage names of the Uhuhboo (어어부), Maboo (마부), Jeoja (저자), and released his solo album Time of Reflection (반성의 시간) in 2008.[3] He formed the supergroupBahngbek with musician Bang Joonseok, and their Your Hands (너의 손) was released in 2015.[4] In 2019, he released his second solo album Light, Many (가볍고 수많은).[5] He has been active as an actor by appearing in various works including Samjin Company English Class and Taxi Driver.[6]
He dropped out of Hongik University and is also an installation artist, and he won the Artist of the Year at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in 2017.[7][8] When asked about his job in an interview with Kyunghyang Shinmun, he replied, "I am an artist first, a musician second. In the case of actor, I only do it when an offer is made to someone."[9] He has held his exhibitions in many countries, including South Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy.[10] In November 2023, he signed with DooRooDooRoo Artist Company.[11]
