The car was developed at the SAIC-GM Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in Shanghai.[7] While not visually similar to other GM cars, it has been suggested that the 630 and 610 is based on the Buick Excelle/Daewoo Lacetti platform.[8]
In 2014, the car debuted in Egypt and Algeria as the Chevrolet Optra.[9][10]
The 2023 model was the final Optra to be listed on the Chevrolet Arabia website.

The 630 is based on what GM likes to refer to as Mature Technology, which is generally PR speak for older well used tech that is not quite past its sell by date and still highly useable, [sic] the platform in question is rumored to be the older Buick Excelle platform that was first designed in GM Korea.
