Amik Robertson
Amik Robertson (born July 6, 1998) is an American professional football cornerback for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Louisiana Tech. Robertson was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020. Early lifeRobertson attended Thibodaux High School in Thibodaux, Louisiana.[1] A 3-star recruit, Robertson committed to Louisiana Tech to play football over offers from Houston, Kansas State, and LSU, among others.[2] College careerRobertson played at Louisiana Tech University from 2017 to 2019.[3][4] He became a starter his freshman year and remained there throughout his college career. As a freshman he was the Defensive MVP of the 2017 Frisco Bowl.[5] As a junior he was named a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).[6] He finished his career with 184 tackles, 14 interceptions, four sacks and three touchdowns. After his junior season, he entered the 2020 NFL draft, forgoing his senior season.[7] Professional career
Las Vegas RaidersRobertson was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round with the 139th pick in the 2020 NFL draft.[9] Throughout Robertson's tenure with the Raiders, his role increased from season to season. He started seeing regular playing time in 2022, playing in all 17 games with seven starts as the team's starting slot corner, leading the team with nine passes defensed and tied for the team-lead with two interceptions. In 2023, he started 12 games in 17 games played, recording 50 tackles, six passes defensed, one sack, and two interceptions. Detroit LionsOn March 14, 2024, Robertson signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Lions.[10] He was named the team's starting nickel corner in 2024, playing in all 17 games recording 50 tackles, eight passes defensed, and led the team with three forced fumbles. Robertson suffered a broken arm in Detroit's Divisional Round playoff loss to the Washington Commanders, an injury that necessitated surgery.[11] NFL career statistics

Personal lifeRobertson credits the adversity he faced in his early life and his faith as motivations for his success. His mother, Kima (after whom he was named--"Amik" is "Kima" spelled in reverse), was 15 when he was born.[12] His father, Arthur Watts was incarcerated for the first five years of Robertson's life, re-entering his son's life when Robertson was 11. At age 15, Robertson became a father when his son Aiden Miguel was born on August 18, 2014. Robertson told the Monroe News-Star, "It meant everything. I remember like it was yesterday. At the time, I’m still young. When she had him and I held him in my arms, that’s when I realized life hit me, I got to pick it up and that’s when I took football serious."[13] Robertson's saying "... They tried to bury me...But you can’t bury what comes from the dirt" has become a refrain, first when he was recruited to the Lions for the 2024 season. On January 5, 2025, he repeated it after the Lions defeated the Vikings for the number one seed spot in the NFC when he received the game ball from head coach Dan Campbell as part of the post-game locker room speech.[14] References
