Aatmaram Tukaram Bhide is a fictional character from the television series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. He is a tuition teacher who runs Bhide Coaching Classes from his home in Gokuldham Society, where he also serves as the secretary. Bhide lives with his wife, Madhavi, and their daughter, Sonalika, affectionately known as Sonu. The character was created by Asit Kumarr Modi and portrayed by Mandar Chandwadkar.

Bhide is a strict schoolteacher known for his unique quirks and memorable catchphrase "Hamare Zamane Mein."

Development

Mandar Chandwadkar, who portrays the role, faced eight years of struggle before securing the part in 2008. Originally a mechanical engineer in Dubai, he left his job in 2000 to pursue his passion for acting in India. Despite the challenges, Chandwadkar believes the risk he took has paid off.[1] During the casting of the show, Sonalika Joshi recommended Mandar Chandwadkar to Asit Kumarr Modi for the role of Bhide, based on their previous collaboration on another show, which led to his eventual casting.[2] His portrayal of Bhide, characterized by a strict demeanor and unique quirks, adds a distinctive flavor to the show.[1][3][2]

In 2023 Neela Films, the production house of the show,[7] launched Bhide Scooter Race, a mobile game based on the character Bhide, after investing a sum of ₹24 crore into the gaming platform.[8][9] The game surpassed one million downloads on Google Play and the Apple App Store and features Bhide's vintage yellow scooter, appealing to both fans of the show and casual gamers.[10][8]

Other games featuring characters from the show, like Run Jetha Run and Daya's Match Pool, have also been popular, with a combined total of over five million downloads.[10]
