![]() The 2025 Jalgaon train accident was a train accident in Pachora, Jalgaon district in Maharashtra, India on the Maheji Railway Station near the line between Pachora Junction-Jalgaon Junction on 22 January 2025. The incident occurred when panicked passengers jumped off the train after hearing rumour that the Pushpak Express on fire; they were subsequently hit by the Bengaluru Express coming from the opposite direction.[2][3][4] AccidentOn 22 January 2025, the 12533 Pushpak Express train was traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai. Rumors spread that a fire had broken out in the coach between Maheji and Pardad stations in Maharashtra. Some people pulled the emergency chain to stop the train at around 4:45 pm. Passengers jumped off the train to the adjoining tracks and were struck by the Bengaluru Express coming from the opposite direction.[5][6][7] Residents rushed to the site and offered help. Images of the disaster site show mutilated body parts along the railway track.[1] Eight ambulances were dispatched, which took the injured passengers to the Civil Hospital in Jalgaon.[8] The Central Circle Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) started an inquiry into the cause of the accident.[9] ReactionsExecutive Director of the Railway Board denied that any spark or fire inside the coach caused passengers to pull the alarm.[1] The Indian Ministry of Railways announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 50,000 for grievous wounds and Rs 5,000 for simple injuries.[10][11] Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw sent their condolences to the families of the passengers who were killed and wished for a fast recovery of the injured people.[12] See alsoReferences
