Alumni

I find this close questionable because it does not address actual policy-based arguments for or against. For example, a higher usage for Alumni than that of Alumnus is irrelevant. We do not generally compare plural and singular in this way. Likewise, the word "alumni" has also been used with "Alumni of women's universities and colleges" is irrelevant because it is possible that it is the category that should be renamed, not this article. Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Your quotation of the common name policy seems to go against the rationale of the nomiantion. So what gives? Srnec (talk) 00:01, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Srnec. I just took a look of the discussion you mentioned a while ago. The common name policy was argued during the discussion. It's why I stated it in the closing discussion. I determine consensus based on policy, as well as exceptions provided in some policies, which were argued over the discussion. A majority also agrees with the move. Hi there, MB. The discussion aforementioned has been open for more than a week. I see that it was opened on 3 October 2022. I closed the discussion on 18 October 2022. I have also noted that the discussion has been relisted once by Shibbolethink. And according to WP:Requested moves#Relisting a requested move, "In general, discussions should not be relisted more than once before properly closing". Hi - just a good faith heads up. With your withdrawal and closure here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sabuhi Mammadov would you mind reverting and closing as "speedy keep" per WP:SKCRIT #1(3)? Part of the reason for changing the close is that there will be a record of this as a keep which potentially has a different meaning than withdrawn; keep establishes precedent, I would argue withdrawn does not. Killing of Tyre Nichols

The move request was not malformed. The article was originally named Death of Tyre Nichols and the RM was to have it moved to Killing of Tyre Nichols. What happened was a user erroneously closed the discussion prematurely saying there was a consensus to move the article to Killing of- and the article's title was subsequently changes to conform with the close. After discussion on closers talk page, they undid their close but the article was never returned to the status quo of Death of-. I think you need to undue your action at Talk:Killing of Tyre Nichols and just let someone else (or yourself) close the move discussion and determine the consensus of the discussion. I reviewed your rollback uses from the trial period and this one is the only one I wouldn't have done. It would have been more ideal for that IP editor to explain their changes, but overall they were removing an unsourced section containing the kind of statement that really should either be sourced or removed. (It has since been removed by another editor with a more adequate edit summary.) That being said, everything else looked good to me, so this is just a friendly heads up. The article is in the domain of WP:BLP, and as such, we need to improve it in every way we can, especially when it comes to claims about someone recently deceased being or not being kidnapped, being or not being dead etc. The problem with the title is serious. This is not something that can be paused for supposed procedural reasons, but there are no such reasons in the first place. It is good when articles are improved during an AfD. No, it wasn't done. When I submitted the technical request for the page move, given the consensus, Amakuru answered by merging it into Albania-United States relations. Reason given in the edit summary was that this new version [of this page (now merged)] is not substantially different from the old version, being just a short stub giving the address and ambassador. Hence redirecting [t]his too per WP:G4. I don't know what should be done here, should I reopen the discussion, or start an RFD? I'll notify Amakuru about this. Hi @Wikiexplorationandhelping and Gjs238: yes, thanks for the notification. So the logic of this is that the original article Embassy of Albania, Washington, D.C. was nominated for deletion three years ago at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Embassy of Albania, Washington, D.C., and the decision there was to redirect it to Albania–United States relations. Now recently, the page was recreated at the alternative title Albanian Embassy in Washington, D.C. But if we compare the original article that was deleted and the newly created article, we see that they're almost the same. They're both two-line stubs giving the ambassador and address, with a photo. As such, the new article qualifies for a WP:G4 deletion per the criterion "sufficiently identical copies, having any title, of a page deleted via its most recent deletion discussion". Since the original page was redirected, I therefore redirected the new one too, to the same target. I personally do agree with the rationale for deletion here, there seems little value in having this page separate from the relations page... As such, I think the RM is moot and no further action is necessary. If someone wants to challenge this, then probably WP:DRV is the venue for that since this is at heart a speedy deletion relating to an old AFD. If the page were to be reinstated, probably a WP:HISTMERGE would be in order so the old and new versions have a shared history. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 09:04, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Silence doesn't always mean editors agree with the nominator's rationale and support their request per WP:WEAKSILENCE. There's many reasons why a editors aren't participating, in that case, consider publicising to encourage discussions. Considering the high profile nature of the article and grammatical error in the proposed title, it should've been relisted rather than moved.

This is a sequel event to the 2023 Governors Island Wiknic and will feature a workshop led by AfroCrowd at the ArtCrawl Harlem house. We'll also encourage collaboration for wiki-coverage of ArtCrawl Harlem's current exhibition at Governors Island. All are welcome, new and experienced!

Bring a picnic blanket and some potluck, as well as some sunscreen! We'll also provide sandwiches for everyone, and maybe some NYC pizza too, but we encourage you to bring your own favorite dishes to share, especially for those food cultural topics you would like to improve on Wikipedia.

We'll also do a portal thing for a bit with West Coast friends at Wikipedia:Meetup/LA/Wiknic2024.

Sep 25: Wikimedia NYC Annual Election Meeting (plus Latin music event on Sep 21!)

September 25: Annual Election & Members Meeting

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our Annual Election & Members Meeting, with in-person at Prime Produce in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, as well as an online-based participation option.

The Members' Meeting is similar to other WikiWednesday meetups, except that its primary function is to elect a new Board of Directors. We will elect three board seats, half of the elected seats on the board. After being elected, those elected can potentially appoint more seats.

We will also focus on the Wikimedia NYC Strategic Plan, our Financial Report, and Annual and Monthly event teams for the coming year.

Election info:

  • To run for election or to vote, you must be a dues-paying member of Wikimedia New York City, having renewed in the past 12 months.
  • Voting will be both online, via emailed ballots from the ElectionBuddy service, and in-person.
  • The poll will be open for the 48 hours between 8pm EDT on September 23 and 8pm EDT on September 25.
