Nonsense. If he has a conflict of interest then he should certainly be careful in editing the article but that is no reason to "keep well clear of the article." The very link you used for this section - WP:COI - says as much.
With that said, it would be good if you were clear about any potential or real conflicts of interest, David. Transparency is extremely important in this large and diverse community of people because we rarely meet and have to be very intentional about building and maintaining trust. Your recent edits

Hello, I'm Hjarvis. I work in UB's marketing office, and can authoritatively state that "Buffalo University" is not our name [1], nor does it show up commonly (if ever) in search returns or in casual conversation. There are many colleges and universities in Buffalo and that name just doesn't make any sense. Not trying to provoke or prolong an edit war, but I am also puzzled why anyone ever suggested it belonged on the page. Please help keep it off the page -- it's just wrong. Thanks! WP only has articles on notable subjects, to test if a topic is notable, there is a guideline, in it, it sates that "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article". So unless you can show that "UB Blue" as a colour has received coverage outside of the Uni, then as a subject it does not warrant a stand-alone article. I would like to add to that, your constant uploads both here and at Commons of copyright images so as to beautify the article of the uni you attend (University at Buffalo, The State University of New York) are disruptive and if they continue are very likely to see you blocked. I actually have taken my own photos and have, in fact, placed them onto the page. They were taken off and deleted by Mtking for no apparent reason. And this time, it was a mistake. I'm actually not talking about those. I took pictures that were clearly MINE and placed them on the page in May of 2011. You not only took them off the page, but you deleted them without reason.

Seal vs Crest

I was taking the time to explain why I reverted your change, it is a long-standing WP policy to delete any copyright file that is not used on an article, so before a file which has been used since 2007 is deleted, it needs to be clear that there is consensus to change it. Help in finding sources for University at Buffalo School of Management

I thought it might help, if I gave you some pointers to the types of sources that would be required to demonstrate that the School of Management meets the criteria for it's own article.

First they need to be from a independent source, so that would not be anything from :

  1. the School of Management
  2. the University including the University Historical Society ;
  3. the State University of New York (SUNY);
  4. the Governor of New York;
  5. any branch of the Government of New York;

Secondly they need to be from reliable sources, sources know for there accuracy, for example Blogs and other self published works would not be considered reliable.

Finally the sources need to demonstrate "Significant coverage" that is the sources address the subject directly in detail, this is more than a trivial mention but it need not be the main topic of the source material. So sources relating to ranking tables are not likely to cover this point.

Conflict re: Maintaining Bill Greiner's Photo in Notable Alumni/Faculty Section in UB Article

University at Buffalo & William Greiner

Please do not re-edit over and over the University at Buffalo alumni sub-section, including replacing Terry Gross with Bill Greiner. Your recent edits both on the University's wikipedia and on William Greiner's suggests a conflict of interest and I would advise to not edit wikipedia pages with respect to Bill Greiner if this is the case (per WP codes). Davidhar, You are mistaken. First of all, you do not own any articles, nor have any authority in telling me what to do or how to edit. Second of all, I did not replace Terry Gross, nor did I realize or know that Terry Gross had been in that section. Terry Gross had already been deleted by someone else when I added Bill Greiner, and then re-added him again after you deleted him. I believe it is you who are in conflict. Please do not jump to conclusions before going back through all the edits to confirm this. Once you do that, you will see that I did not "replace" anyone. I only added Bill, and it was you who deleted him. Why did you delete him, reverting my two edits/additions of him? This is something that should be discussed on the talk page. The former president of UB who worked there for 42 years, who was president for 13 years, who made many advancements for the university, and who brought the school back to Division I, I believe is noteworthy enough for his photograph to be reflected in the notable alumni and faculty section. Davidhar, Again, I think your assumptions with regard to what I had attempted to achieve in contributing my images to the article are incorrect. Instead of complaining and continuing an argument that is going nowhere, I challenge you to take and upload photos of some UB sports teams to the athletics section of this article. My perspective is that some photos are better than none. Having not had any photos in that section prior to my contributions creates a reflection on the article that athletics are unimportant at UB. While most of my text contributions to this overall article have been maintained, you deleted 2/3 of my photo contributions. So, I challenge you to replace them with updated and current photos since I am on the other side of the country and it would not be feasible for me to do so, otherwise I would. You have taken a leadership role with this article, and I challenge you to uphold it by improving and enhancing it with more updated photos than what I contributed. If you do not, then it would be obvious that a conflict about it may be preferred by you rather than compromise. Having had no images in the athletics section, in my opinion and prior to my image contributions, made it a section that was lacking in quality and which needed enhancement. Thanks again for starting the merge of campuses. I'm not up to the job, but I totally agree it's worth doing. It would need a plan, and I'd hate to see someone's hard work get deleted by some other editor who complained because there wasn't consensus from the start. I stated in the talk that I've rescinded my proposition to form a merger. Instead, I'd like to keep the UTM and UTSC campus articles, in addition to revising the U of T article to represent the entire University. At present, the wikipedia leaves out roughly half of the entire U of T population...and that's inaccurate and inappropriate by wikipedia standards. While the U of T isn't a University system (like I've said repeatedly), even if it were treated as a university system, all university systems have one single comprehensive article (University of London, University of Massachusetts, State University of New York, University of California, etc.). Why are you removing any mention of other names currently used, names formerly used, or abbreviations used in the very article you are editing? In your most recent edit, you removed this sentence: "It is commonly referred to as the University at Buffalo (abbreviated UB) and was formerly known as the University of Buffalo." Not only does that remove an abbreviation used throughout the university's documents, other reliable sources, and the article itself but it also removes a historical name that is detailed in the article. More confusing is that you removed that sentence while using the edit summary "the 'University at Buffalo' name is still commonly used, bring it up in the talk if you still have issue. You're promoting an edit war." which is exactly what the sentence says!

Please explain your bizarre insistence that the article lead not have the commonly used name, formerly used name, and abbreviation in the lead like every other article does. First of all, you edited the page using the title "Buffalo University, The State University of New York at Buffalo"....show me a source that says that...cuz in my view, that is the most idiotic and redundant name ever created for a university, and as a student, have never seen that in any publication, document, apparel, etc. Secondly, the differentiation between the "University at Buffalo" and the "University of Buffalo" is marginal at best. Stating the difference, in my opinion, is not needed and is again redundant. This is my opinion of course. For your sake however, you edited the first sentecne without consensus from wikipedia editors beforehand. And that's the main problem I have with your edits. You haven't explained why your actions and your stated reasons are in direct contradiction. I didn't name the article or the university (which does appear to have that as its full, legal name whether you've heard of it or not). And we don't require editors to get consensus before making edits.

Let me throw my two cents in. As an employee of the university system, I was "strongly encouraged" to use "University AT Buffalo", since it's the State University of New York AT Buffalo. Buffalo does not have a university of it's own. The use "of" and "at" have completely different meanings last I checked. Here's my nickel to including "at" as a current usage, and "of" as a previous use, which is the way I've understood it since I was informed of the correct usage of University "at" Buffalo.

Ok, someone's adding more common names again for UB. They wrote that "Other names like 'Buffalo University', 'UBuffalo' and 'UBuff' are also commonly seen." This is not true. "University OF Buffalo" is mistakenly used... that's the only common name. We DO use a hash tag of UBuffalo... but not in normal human speech. Since Buffalo has several universities, 'Buffalo University' is NOT misapplied, and I have never heard anyone refer to UBuff. Someone is making those up. Can you help..?
