Evermore

I've noticed that you're changing a lot of links in articles from Evermore to Evermore (band). I was wondering if there was a reason for this as it is creating red links (links to articles that don't exist). J Di talk 01:54, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I've created a disambiguation page and am in the proces of changing all the links to the band so that I may create a page to evermore, the book. I will change the name of the article on the band once I have followed and corrected all the links.--Rtrace 02:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see. It might be better to move the article first so that the links you create aren't red. I'll do it now. J Di talk 02:04, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't moved it so that I can find all the links using "what links here", but I suppose I can move it back to check that I got them all and then reset it to the new link.--Rtrace 02:08, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can still use What links here; it even works for pages that don't exist. J Di talk 02:09, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I wasn't aware you could do that. I've got all the links changed now.

You really should have just added this to the top of the Evermore page (the band one). For the collection of short stories edited by James Robert Smith and Stephen Mark Rainey, see Evermore (book). You've created a bit of a mess. - kollision 03:32, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Curse of Yig

There's no need to name the article on the short story "Curse of Yig" The Curse of Yig (short story)--clearly the story is far better known than the 1,200-copy anthology named for the story, which can keep the name The Curse of Yig (book) and be plenty disambiguated. If you want we could put a thing at the top of The Curse of Yig pointing to the book article. Nareek 04:54, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is the second time someone has commented when I've put up a disambiguation page. I guess I'm a little unclear on when they are warented vs the note at the top.--Rtrace 05:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If people would overwhelmingly expect to find a particular subject when they type in a name in the search box, then that name should go with that subject. If people might often be looking for different things, then disambiguation is called for. In this case, since the more obscure subject is more or less a spinoff of the more obvious subject, it makes even more sense to treat the secondary subject as a "see also". See WP:DAB for more. Nareek 15:34, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree and I have requested the page be moved back, as it appears that I need to get an administrator involved.--Rtrace 01:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arkham House

I notice you've been adding and working on infoboxes in the articles for individual AH publications. It would be nice if you made it a point to italicize the titles of the works in the captions beneath the cover images—a small point, but one that catches my eye. Deor 16:11, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll endeavor to do so going forward. I also hope to make a second pass at the articles to fix any formatting errors after I've completed the initial entries.--Rtrace 18:17, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I had some free time, so I worked through the AH articles today. There are still some inconsistencies (like numbered lists versus bulleted lists of story titles, as well as quotes versus no quotes around the story titles), but hopefully someone will have time to clean these up in the future. Deor 05:35, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Common titles

When you create a page for a book with a title that is shared with many other books, like "Selected Poems" or "Collected Poems," it's a good idea to add the author's name in parentheses in the article title. Otherwise, the article may attract irrelevant links from all over Wikipedia. Deor 02:16, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Point taken. I was actually a little surprised that neither of those titles had already been taken.--Rtrace 20:28, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Novels and Books additions

I have just come across some of your useful additional articles on novels and short story collections. I would like to thank you for these and notice you have tagged some with NovelsWikiProject and some as WPBooks. You might like to know both are included in scope in the "Novels" project and anything written in fictional narrative prose is considered "in scope. Thanks. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 16:58, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll begin using NovelsWikiProject for the short story collections. --Rtrace 17:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In Re: Sherlock Holmes

Thanks for you message. I was working on the best information I have available to me, mainly listings on the internet and references therein. So you may have a better perspective. A couple of observations though, such a complex title as was originally may be too difficult to the casual search in wikipedia, also generally the approach here appears to be to avoid unnecesary punctuation or marks like " , particularly if they are only used in some editions. Also it appears usual to avoid subtitles in the main name and add them back as secondary elements to the lead line. In addition where I looked suggested that the second element was the name of the publication in the UK and the first element was the proper US (first edition) title, hence the change. These type of namings are awkward arn't they. Regards Kevin —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kevinalewis (talkcontribs) 08:33, 29 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Incomplete vs. Incompleat Enchanter

"I'd like to question your reasons for the renaming of the article. I have several bibliographic references that list the title as The Incomplete Enchanter (the Laughlin and Levack de Camp bibliography and Bleiler's Checklist of Fantastic Literature). My own paperback reprint as well as the two cover scans in the article seem to agree.--Rtrace 20:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)"[reply]

Reasonable question. As I have always understood it, the "Incompleat" spelling was the original, in tribute to Isaak Walton's Compleat Angler; publishers seem to have felt a compulsion to "correct" it ever since, as the two cover scans testify. The correction to "Incompleat" appears in the errata for John Clute's 1993 SF encyclopedia, for example, which used the "Incomplete" spelling at first.--Orange Mike 21:56, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. I've got Clute's Fantasy Encylopedia, but not the SF one amd while it does mention The Incompleat Enchanter as a later variant title, it doesn't go into the deatail you mention. I'm going to paste this thread into the talk page lest others ask you the same question.--Rtrace 22:32, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Camber of culdi first.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Camber of culdi first.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:33, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Farneheit 451.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for your contributions . . .

. . . to the Samuel R. Delany pages. And thanks for keeping the current Return to Neveryon book covers on those pages. Nice work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kdring (talkcontribs) 19:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, I'm pretty sure that the Atlantis: Three Tales book cover is the 1st edition cover. It came out in two versions at the same time, one black and one gray. The gray was a limited edition, signed by Delany. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kdring (talkcontribs) 18:01, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm. My memory may be shot, but I clearly recall just before Atlantis: Three Tales came out, my local sf/f bookstore gave me the choice of ordering the limited edition gray or the regular edition black. Both were hardcover, and both were being released at the same time. Actually, I guess the easiest thing would be for me to email Chip and ask him! Kdring (talk) 18:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if this matters to you, but are you aware of the Delany listserve on Netscape? Let me know if you'd like a link to it.Kdring (talk) 23:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, that's not strange. It's pretty cool. If you get the chance, try Nova or Empire Star. Great starting points for his sf work.Kdring (talk) 00:02, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Chip confirmed . . . you're right. He said the gray Incunabula edition of Atlantis: Three Tales preceded the Wesleyan version by a few months. I'll see if I can find the dust jacket for my copy (it'll be a while) in order scan it and upload it.Kdring (talk) 22:51, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, while you're at this, could you do an infobox for Dark Reflections? It's not science fiction, but you've done such a nice job on his other books, I thought you might be able to get this done fairly easily. I think I have a copy of the cover art somewhere if you need it.Kdring (talk) 19:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing that so quickly. I met Chip at the San Diego Comic Con several years ago. It's a long story that I won't clog up your talk page with, but I can definitely say what a nice guy he is. Fedogan & Bremer/ F & B Mystery

Don't you just hate it when publishers pull that kind of stuff? It drives librarians crazy, to say nothing of bibliographers. Correction to Mutants (collection)

Hi - Your bot changed Solvant→Solvent [1] in the article Mutants (collection). I've double checked both of the sources listed in the article and they both list the spelling as "Solvant". Since it is a title to a short story, I suspect the author was trying to make a pun and it may not be an actual word in English. I'm going to change it back (I won't revert since the other correction is good), but I worry that your bot will attempt to re-correct the word "Solvant". The title is already in quotes. Is there a comment or something that could be added to ensure that the bot will not change it back? Thanks.--Rtrace (talk) 02:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear, my apologies. I've added an exception to my bot so it won't try to 'correct' Solvant in that article again. Thanks for letting me know. Cheers, CmdrObot (talk) 12:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cite request

Thanks for creating the article Final Blackout. Could you please add cites to the ends of the sentences where the References displayed are used, so that one can tell which references are used where? Cirt (talk) 08:21, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. It looks like you added the full information and not just a "note" to the notes/citations, which is actually the way I prefer to do it most of the time. I plan to do a major 5x expansion/overhaul on that article at some point soon. Cirt (talk) 05:26, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I liked it back the other way round, your second edit to that article. I would rather have the full citation as a note that shows up in {{reflist}}, and then just do away w/ 2 different sections and have all References show up as notes, get it? Cirt (talk) 05:49, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I adjusted it to show you the way I mean. I found 11 book reviews, which I will try to track down, and expand the article greatly, soon. Cirt (talk) 05:54, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Venus Equilateral

Hi. Venus Equilateral (collection) — the article on the book collecting the stories — is awfully short, and likely to remain so. It seems to me it'd be better to merge it into Venus Equilateral, in a section on publication history. We could put infoboxes on both the 1947 and 1976 books up at the top.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:And some were human.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:And some were human.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Typewriter in the sky fear.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Typewriter in the sky fear.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Edward McCrorie

Notability of Edward McCrorie

A tag has been placed on Edward McCrorie requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Rhebus (talk) 17:51, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for the ref. updating here! I had to get rid of the dead link, but I felt horrible about deleting a reference. I tried searching and I tried... oh well. I'll spare you the sob story. But, in the end you fixed it, so it's better now. Awesome.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Strange stories from a chinese studio.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Strange stories from a chinese studio.jpg.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Islands in the sky" cover by R.A. Smith

Hello Rtrace ... As I'm not able to reach you by email, I will try this way (hope it will be allowed). I'm doing some research on a french illustrator (called R. Brantonne) who has illustrated some AC Clarke covers in France. For the cover of the french edition of "Islands in the sky" ("Iles dans l'espace" in french), R. Brantonne has made a copy of the original by R.A. Smith (which is mentionned on the french cover). Do you have a larger image of this cover and also information on this edition (date, editor, ...). Thank you very much for your help ... Mdubois (talk) 13:57, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:40, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated After 12,000 Years, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/After 12,000 Years. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Cthulhu Mythos anthology

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to an article may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. Please note that we take very seriously our criteria on non-free image uploads and users who repeatedly upload or misuse non-free images may be blocked from editing. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. Notice

The article The Temple of the Ten has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Is this notable enough for its own article?

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Dunwich sixth.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Dunwich sixth.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
