Can you please discuss on the talk page if you think you are correct in adding that stuff to the Foucault page? I have said twice now that it is an original essay, which is not what Wikipedia is supposed to be about. Such material should be deleted according to Wikipedia guidelines. If you do not feel it is original research, please explain on the talk page? csloat (talk) 23:39, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi -- please read WP:NOR and WP:V; it is not enough to say "I can give you cites if you like." Citations must be in the material added to the encyclopedia entry, not offered privately as an aside. What you are adding looks like an original essay, full of opinions that aren't attributed to anyone specific. Please use the article's talk page to discuss this further. csloat (talk) 23:57, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did not accuse you of "copying" the essay -- the problem is that it is an original essay, not necessarily that it is copied from somewhere. Please click the above links on No Original Research and Verifiability for further details, and use the talk page of the article if you feel this essay is exempt from these rules. csloat (talk) 00:17, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Original Research

Hi - you seem to misunderstand Wikipedia policies. In this edit on my talk page you acknowledge that the material you are adding is "your own research." That is expressly forbidden by Wikipedia policy, which is explained here. Please read that link before you continue to edit. Thanks. csloat (talk) 00:33, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Godwin already? There's no need to call me a Nazi. If you don't agree with Wikipedia rules, go to the relevant talk pages and advocate getting them changed. Nobody is asking you not to think. We're just asking you not to use an encyclopedia as an outlet for your original scholarship. csloat (talk) 01:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

August 2008

Please do not add unsourced or original content, as you did to Michel Foucault. Doing so violates Wikipedia's verifiability policy. If you continue to do so, your edits will be considered vandalism and you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Although you provide two references, the bulk of what you have written falls under original research and must be properly sourced to be included. freshacconcispeaktome 12:21, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is original content and it is sourced.Under sources you will see that it is my source I wrote the word sources.By original do you mean copy can you PROVE categorically that it is original? It is 3 references not 2 and it is properly sourced.  — [Unsigned comment added by Richardlord50 (talkcontribs).]

No, by original I mean original as in original research. In other words, your ideas. I have no idea where you get the idea of a "copy" from. Please read the link above on original research and why it's an important policy. And the onus is on you to provide proof of it not being original research. That would mean more than the 3 references you provide. Whenever an idea is presented that goes beyond the everyday, it must be sourced. So, indicating that Foucault is French is everyday knowledge and would rarely require a citation, unless it's controversial (see Jean-Luc Godard on when that sort of thing happens). But bringing in an interpretation on Foucault's ideas requires a verifiable source. See WP:V for information on what this means. You acknowledge that what you are attempting to include are your original ideas. That by very definition is original research. Even if you have your own published material (i.e. written by you and not self-published), this would become an issue of conflict of interest, which would need to be addresses. I will include some information below on how to edit Wikipedia, including using verifiable sources. Please read this careful so you can avoid being blocked for edit disruptions. As a courtesy to other editors (remember, Wikipedia is collaborative), you should discuss major changes on the talk pages of articles, especially if it proves to be controversial. Thanks. freshacconcispeaktome 16:43, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

Hello, Richardlord50, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.

There is a page about the verifiability policy that explains the policy in greater detail, and another that offers tips on the proper ways of citing sources. If you are stuck and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. I have been here since 12:00 today trying to down load a file at least 5 hours has been wasted trying to download 1 file it still hasn't been done yet.HOW DO I GO ABOUT DOWNLOADING THIS FILE?

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Incarceration In America Prisons, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Incarceration In America Prisons has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Incarceration In America Prisons, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. I would suggest copying your text to a personal area (on your computer or a Wikipedia:User page area, on a user subpage) and finishing it up there if you think the article is at a state where it is going to be deleted.

Transwiki?

Hi Richardlord50. If you'd like, I can import this article to Wikiversity (research and synthesis are permitted there). I'm fairly sure it will not survive the AfD process on Wikipedia, since it appears to be an academic essay. --SB_Johnny | talk 18:34, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much very much appreciated I would be very grateful if you did.Can you confirm please when its done!Although I would like the article to be read by a general audience.

Is it possible to have both(both at the same time published by Wikipedia)?A general audience and a specialist audience. And also,I still have much more editing to do on the article I would like to be judged when the article is finished I just need time.

The page has been impported to Wikiversity at v:Geosurveillance Population where you may continue working on it. As far as the page on wikipedia, that is a decision to be made at the AfD discussion. --mikeu talk 01:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Homo Sacer Leviathan and The Chinese Sage Ruler A Comparison requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Pontificalibus (talk) 20:51, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created, as you did with Homo Sacer Leviathan and The Chinese Sage Ruler A Comparison. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 20:58, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Homo Sacer Leviathan and The Chinese Sage Ruler A Comparison requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Picture of Ranking Dread.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 16:43, 17 April 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 16:43, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as After The Present, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Edits to Zhuangzi

Hi, many of your good faith edits to Zhuangzi have been reverted. Moving an article title has to be first discussed on the talk page. Zhuangzi is more in line with WP:TITLE or WP:COMMON and is more consistent with how the philosopher is referenced according to accepted naming guidelines and modern culture and how it is referred to in the article than Zhuang Zhou. Thank you.Flygongengar (talk) 17:40, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My point wasn't whether something was correct or not. My point was that a) moving a page has to be discussed first, and b) the Wiki naming conventions for articles such as Zhuangzi were already established and your edits went against the naming conventions (which is why you needed to discuss it first). I strongly encourage you to go through the proper procedure and propose the article be renamed/moved on the talk page, but again you have to do this, not just rename the article.Flygongengar (talk) 20:22, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Page_12_Of_T_295_551_Sterling_Area.JPG

Thank you for uploading File:Page_12_Of_T_295_551_Sterling_Area.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:09, 4 January 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. Thank you for uploading File:Claude Massop With Aston 'Bucky Marshall'Thomson.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:56, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Biopower

Thanks for your comment. For future additions to this article, it's worth bearing in mind that conventionally most punctuation (at least full stop/period, comma, colon, semicolon, question mark) is followed by a space; and it's a Wikipedia convention that book and journal titles are italicised (by enclosing them in two pairs of straight quotes like this) and journal article titles are enclosed in "double quotes". Best wishes for your future contributions. Colonies Chris (talk) 18:56, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Source information needed for File:Christopher Coke.jpg

Hello, Richardlord50!

It was really helpful of you to upload File:Christopher Coke.jpg. However, in order to keep and use new images, we need to know their original source.

If you can edit the description page and add this information, that would be great. If you're not sure how or need help, please ask at the media copyright questions page and we'll be happy to assist you.

Thanks again! --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 03:05, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the message you left for ImageTaggingBot on its talk page (it's a 'bot, not a person). It's not asking for you to explain yourself but to edit the image's description page (and add the source and author and other required information).

For future reference: just because an image is up on the NY Times website doesn't mean it's "freely available". It may be freely available for viewing but it's probably still copyrighted unless explicitly stated otherwise.

I've edited the image description and removed the warning tag, should be okay now. It'll probably be copied to Commons later. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 13:39, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Vivian Blake.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Vivian Blake.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Biopower

I see that you are a major contributor to the biopower page. I am concerned that many of your contributions are unsourced and/or appear to constitute original research. Please confirm whether or not you have references that can be used to verify these claims. Without citations, much of the content you have added to this page will be removed. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Edgar Hardcastle, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ricardian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello. I was only using the word spamming in a figurative way. According to long-established common practice sidebar templates are only meant to be included in pages which are linked to them. 'Biopower' is not listed in the 'politics' sidebar. Thus, there is no point having the 'politics' sidebar in that article. (Note that the user who placed the sidebar there has made similar inappopriate edits in the past.) --Omnipaedista (talk) 16:18, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

3rr on Power (social and political)‎

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Power (social and political)‎ shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

I also see you have been through this process before so you should know better. Regards Andrew (talk) 12:46, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours for edit warring at Biopower. Also, please bear in mind that you do not own any article in Wikipedia. Whenever you post anything to Wikipedia, you give consent for others to edit and change it: if you are not happy to accept that, then don't contribute to Wikipedia. Comments such as this one seem to suggest that you think you have a right to control the content of an article, and your persistent edit warring to prevent any changes that you don't agree with seems to confirm that. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. Dear Richard,

Your contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated and your edits on articles related to Michel Foucault are invaluable to this project.

However, before you continue your work, it is very important that you familiarise yourself with our Manual of Style. It is not acceptable to copy and paste your personal essay/ reading notes into here. You need to carefully edit and in accordance to the Manual of Style.

I wish you all the best.

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Theory of the sun and the moon and Unam sanctam a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. A tag has been placed on William Bentvena requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://mafia.wikia.com/wiki/William_Bentvena. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice

The article Lion Philips has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No citations and therefore no evidence of notabillity.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
