Board position and editing

Hello! I hope you have read WP:COI. We very much do not want representatives of companies (a board member is an active representative for the best interests of a company/society, wouldn't you say?) editing the company or society's page directly. Editing drafts directly is OK, as they are not visible to the public, but for "live" articles please use talk page requests as we aim to keep Wikipedia neutral. A Wikipedia page is not a promotional extension of a company or society, but rather a factual restatement of what has already been written about the organization. There are more pages entitled "Jews of" in wikipedia as far as I can see, so that point doesn't hold at all. And you flipped/tried to the flip the title without any discussion, whilst I was editing. And the software insisted at the end of two major edits that I make a choice between versions. I’m afraid I didn’t realise you were editing it, so I should have looked. User:747pilot asked me on my talk page why his page move wasn’t working and I redirected it to resolve the issue he raised. Splitting articles into list and history

Hi Philip,

What would you think about splitting History of the Jews in Kingston upon Hull and History of the Jews in Leeds into an article and a list each? That would result in four articles: History of the Jews in Kingston upon Hull; List of Jews in Kingston upon Hull; History of the Jews in Leeds; and List of the Jews in Leeds. This would resolve several issues currently facing the articles, including WP:BLOATED, WP:OVERCITE, and WP:PAGESIZE. Each article already has portions that would lend themselves well to a list format. See for example List of Jews in sports. As a general note, even there each entry only has one ref to back it up; for noncontroversial assertions that's generally all that's needed.

I see there is a wikipeida page on how to split articles, but like so much else in wikipedia I find it very technical. I am away for a week and will study it on return. Certainly Murray Freedman publishes multiple books, chapters and pamphlets about the Jews of Leeds, som privately. I think this is the full reference: M. Freedman (1988) "The Leeds Jewish Community" pp. 161–174 in L. S. Tate (ed) Aspects of Leeds ISBN 1-871647-38-X

Actually, I see that the first edition is 1998, indeed you are correct. It looks like I had picked up this error from the City of Leeds wikipage, which I have just corrected, as I was keen to use the earliest date for an overview work by Freedman. I don't have all of his publications..

Hi Philip Sugarman, I saw that you changed the content in that article so that it's no longer eligible for G12. I know the nomination for deletion was a bit hasty, but it involves a Wikipedia policy with legal ramifications. Just please be careful when reading sources not to paste copyrighted content, and I saw that you said here that you were "editing down the source" or changing the content from a cut and paste I presume? I wouldn't recommend that since editing down the source can easily result in close paraphrasing, which can create more problems with copyright.
