Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true. No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. I used to think you were a polite fellow Canadian, or at least somewhat tolerant of other people's opinions. But after what you did at the Humanities desk, I'm not so sure. Deleting stuff from your own user page is one thing, but deleting another user's contributions from a forum where you openly asked anyone for help is messed up. I won't point you to the rule about it or ask you to restore my friendly thoughtful tips, you're no noob, you get it. But if someone else (not me) wastes time answering a vague question of yours later, consider declining or asking for clarification instead of burning it all like a scared, confused and/or ingrateful New Yorker, eh? There was nothing about your replies that was helpful in the slightest. I have all the patience in the world for folks who earnestly try to help, even if they end up missing the mark. But what purpose did your comments serve? Nothing. They weren't even jokes. Just random thoughts you decided to clutter my question with. OK, I shouldn't have offered "scared" as a possibility, and should have spelled "ingrateful" with a U. Sorry. I stand by "confused", though, since you admit missing all the points of my earnest tries to help. Anyway, from the sounds of it, there really is no point getting into the details, some ideas and some people just don't click, regardless of patience or effort. Thank you, and the same (belatedly). Sorry, I've been offline for some time. I suppose it surprises no one that two Canucks can talk amicably even in times of stress. In that same spirit of amicability, I'd like to see if we can figure out where we went amiss. My question was about finding a resource that acted as an overview of popular illustration (artists, schools of thought, etc.). Sluzzelin's response was exactly the kind of thing I wanted (albeit pricey), so I think I must have been fairly clear about what I intended. Your first suggestion was Paradise Lost, which is an epic poem. It's certainly been illustrated, most notably by William Blake, but it's still just a single book. As were the other suggestions you made and therein lies the problem. It would be like me asking for information about the layout of the periodic table of the elements and you suggesting I read up on iron. Yes, I could read up on iron and then try to formulate something myself, but it would be completely the long way around. I needed an overview. Probably a textbook. I'm stuck on why you thought adding more examples of specifics were going to be helpful. While the examples I gave are famous enough in their own right, surely someone who knows of Aubrey Beardley already has the capability of looking up further artists or books one by one? Your Agihard account didn't edit that article; the IP 172.58.139.51 did. That edit broke the infobox of the article, so I reverted it and templated that IP's talk page. No worries. You tagged the page for deletion under speedy criterion U2, which is for subpages of users that don't exist, but this user does exist, so this didn't quite fit that criterion. But I've seen a lot of "John Pork" vandalism in the last little while so I just deleted it under that justification instead. Thanks for your help. It’s is astonishing how unqualified opportunists are stealing and commercialising the ideas of scientists who are never acknowledged. I will give you another name: Prof Ernst Von Weizsacker.
