Hello User:Matarisvan It has been observed that you have spent considerable time editing the Wikipedia webpage on Sam Manekshaw. In particular, you have chosen to remove the "Dates of Rank" and "Awards and decorations" subsection from the webpage. Kindly remember, the subject person is from the military, thus making the promotions he received and the awards he was conferred upon a part of his history, in a professional context.

For reference, look up to the Wikipedia pages of other military officer, particularly field marshals - like K.M. Hi, I had made some grammatical edits but there was an edit conflict as someone had made changes to the article before I could publish. I copied my text and put it into the text box, but because I was editing on a mobile device, only a few lines of my text got copied. I hit publish before reviewing as I thought all the text had been pasted, but the mobile clipboard could hold only a few lines. If you had read my comments fully then you would know I focused more on pointing out mistakes in the review than these so called accusations. That reviewer did not address any of my points, just bemoaned their actual modus operandi being revealed, which is what they did at the last two peer reviews and FACs. USS Texas (BB-35) A-Class reappraisal

I did not add your name to be notified in the discussion of this topic on the coordinator talk page for you to become involved (which you haven't). My purpose was to show you one of the few requests or problems that come up in one form or another that are not well understood - by me after a year as a coordinator and I think by most people as well. The handling of most coordinator tasks that come up can be found in various project review and procedure pages or academy pages. Experienced coordinators often can answer some other questions. I am still not sure where this type of A-class reassessment is covered in enough detail so that anyone who does not have experience in handling it can feel comfortable about setting up or proceeding with one.

You can see by the discussion on this topic that this type of reassessment can be puzzling. I usually try to stay away from A class reassessments. They don't seem to come up very often but it seems that only a few people understand how to handle this since it is not under the general Wikipedia wide processes in the same way that featured article/list and GA reviews and reassessments are handled. It is complicated by the fact that the military history project has retained project control on A-class assessments, which after 3 general reviews, a source review and an image review, must be approved by an uninvolved coordinator. (Experienced users or coordinators usually handle the various reviews.) In turn, that puts the reassessments back into the project for ultimate processing. Even now, I am not quite sure how the A-class reassessments are to be set up and finally reviewed or decided. It may be similar to GA reassessments but require more comment and ultimate decision by an uninvolved coordinator.

I add this here only as information since I know it is not providing much enlightenment. As I have time, I will try to get a handle on this and let you know if I can say anything more definite. If you need to know any more at this time, Hawkeye7 definitely understands this and maybe a few others, including Hog Farm, do as well. My advice would be to just wait and see how this one is handled for any further explanation.

I set up the A-class reassessment. There is a procedure I documented. There's some tricky bits, but it is fairly mechanical. I may get the bot to do it in the future; I have to check to see whether the Page Mover bit is required. The handling of A-class goes back before I joined the project. It shows up on Military history WikiProject, Articles for review list as an A-class review, not separately as a reassessment. I note that Hawkeye7 set the reassessment up for voorts. He copied the points that voorts raised. Then he said he did not agree with one of the points made with the reason. I don't agree with it either. So it now seems clear to me that a coordinator sets up the A-class reassessment for the user who requests it with the rationale provided by that user. WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

Military History Newcomer of the Year for 2024

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February.
