Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page John Hunter (scientist) has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IXYsDdPvbo (matching the regex rule \byoutube\.com). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file. Video links are also strongly deprecated by our guidelines for external links, partly because they're useless to people with slow internet connections.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 06:27, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oileán Ruaidh

You contributed a statement to the Oileán Ruaidh article saying, "It has green fields, rocky sabres with abundant growth of seaweed...." What do you mean by "sabres"? The only definition of the word in the Oxford English Dictionary is "sword". — O'Dea (talk) 10:48, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Hey John, we talked a little about the hallissey page awhile back and you seem to know how to use Wikipedia really well. I was hoping you could help me upload a logo for my high school wikipedia page. Im not sure what i did wrong for the copyright tags but apperently it was deleted. this is the link to the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesuit_High_School_(Sacramento) . the logo/picture is located at http://www.jesuithighschool.org/announcement/permission-use-jesuit-high-school-logos-cakes . just click on the picture and it will enlarge. Also, any update on the hallissey page? I see there has been a makeover.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hallissy (talkcontribs) 01:32, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hallissy from Sacramento,
Good to know there are some Hallissy's on the west coast of the US. Hello from Ireland.
To install a picture on a page on Wikipedia, first you have to go and create an account on Wikimedia Commons;
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Then upload your picture onto the Wikipedia Commons website. Once you have dome that, just visit any page on Wikipedia that has a picture on the page. Click to edit that page and just take a look at the code they used to post their picture. Then use the same code on your page, and just replace the internet address of the picture with your pictures address.
Try that and see if you can get it to work. If your still in trouble, just post a message back here again and i will do it for you.
Yea, all the content i put up on the Hallissey Wikipedia page was removed. The person who removed all my hard work and research was a bully. But hay, that's life.

Hi John37309. This was not intended to be a "commercial advert for 1970's rock band." The Book of Invasions auto redirects to the book article. Yes, the album name is hidden away under "See also" section at the bottom of teh article, but I don't think that will necessarily be enough for many readers searching for the album. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:34, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Martin, it is a commercial advert, and it can't be at the top of the page of a very significant Irish History article. If there are bad or wrong redirects for finding Horselips music albums, then fix them. John37309 (talk) 16:45, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see. You see links to Wikipedia artciles on albums as "commercial adverts"? And you think that was my pure intention there? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:49, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Martin, yes, it is a "commercial advert" for a rock band, and it should not be there. However, maybe you like their music, i don't know. But i am always willing to compromise. Martin if you like, i see no problem with you adding a new section at the bottom of the LGE article to give more status to the Horselips album. Create a New Section at the bottom of the page and do a short write up on the Horselips album, and link to the Book of Invasions page. I think that is a reasonable compromise. What do you think? John37309 (talk) 16:58, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
John, I can't purchase a copy here, so I remain somewhat unconvinced. I preferred your original ultimatum - I think the re-direct is unwanted. Yes, Horslips were a great band, but my personal likes and dislikes have no relevance here, John. We might both agree that an article on a 11th-century manuscript will be of more interest to more "serious scholarly types" and deserves some kind of "primary" status. I'd suggest such readers are more likely to search for it by its proper name. But there might be equal numbers of readers wanting to find a 1976 Celtic-rock concept album by it's exact name - it's a Wikipedia nicety, after all, to add "(album)" to article titles. But without statistics, it's difficult to know. John. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:11, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So what do you want to do Martin? John37309 (talk) 17:17, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What I want to do you won't allow. You've already told me to go fix "bad or wrong redirects for finding Horselips music albums", John. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:00, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Martin, yes, that is what you have to do to solve the problem. As things currently stand the wikipedia page The Book of Invasions redirects to the Lebor Gabála Érenn page. Here is my suggestion for you; Change the The Book of Invasions page si its a disambiguous page, that offers links to both the Horslips album, and the LGE page. And that will solve your problem. John37309 (talk) 18:35, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Book of Invasions (disambiguation). Martinevans123 (talk) 20:43, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Martin, just check what you wrote on paragraph two, it says "a 1976 concept album by um by". Otherwise, i think you solved your problem. John37309 (talk) 23:00, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
John, if there are sloppy cut and paste errors on that disambiguation page, then fix them. (I give you my permission) "lol" Martinevans123 (talk) 18:26, 19 January 2017 (UTC) [reply]
And now, thanks to User:Graeme Bartlett, back where we started. I see that User:Cuchullain also tried the same fix this as me and was swiftly reverted. What's the answer? Martinevans123 (talk) 09:56, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have put this back per this discussion. There were also two others involved. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:41, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Graeme. Not just two, it seems. I had thought by adding the word "(disambiguation)" I had made it into "a real disambiguation page" , but perhaps I missed something. I think there are also the three other re-redirects to consider. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:42, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

John37309Graeme Bartlett, Martinevans123I've restored it. It isn't a "commercial advert", it's a WP:HATNOTE used for WP:DISAMBIGUATION, that is, allowing readers looking for an item of the same title to find it. Please do not remove this again. We also don't need a dab page as there are only two uses of the term "The Book of Invasions", and the Lebor Gabála Érenn is the clear-cut primary topic. John, please don't remove this again.--Cúchullain t/c 14:38, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suits me. I thought that was much simpler. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:39, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
