Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 14:26, 3 September 2012 (UTC) alveolar clicksThanks for fixing all the !'s in the Khoisan articles. However, I wonder about the page move to ǃKung language. If we're going to use the Unicode click symbol, then we should probably use the local orthography, which would be ǃXuun or ǃXũũ (plus perhaps tone diacritics). "!Kung" is the common English rendering of the name, and as such I would expect it to use a simple exclamation mark. Similarly Ekoka !Kung etc. ("!Xung", BTW, is an odd hybrid which is probably my fault. There is no actual "ng" in the native pronunciation.) (The edits also left a fair number of new red links.) — kwami (talk) 17:11, 7 December 2012 (UTC) ThanksThanks for fixing this. Gorobay (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log)) Request reason: I am not a bot. If I were, would I make silly mistakes like Ctrl+V without the Ctrl? I realize I edit quickly, but that is only natural when I am creating multiple identical redirects. Gorobay (talk) 09:06, 3 February 2013 (UTC) Accept reason: I've gone ahead and unblocked, but please consider slowing down. The reason I ask is that I thought that template should only be used on /doc pages, as per its own /doc page. Actually, when you boil it all down, even the Latin letters like A, B, C are on the List of Unicode characters, so I think that template is now only good for /doc pages. Or have you found another use for it? a use that isn't like the redirect shortcut I linked to above? – PAINE ELLSWORTH CLIMAX! 18:30, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

You may want to participate in the most recent RFD discussion concerning redirects from Unicode characters to the articles on the writing systems to which they belong. Particularly, this discussion involves the redirects from Vai syllabary characters, although the underlying purpose of their proposed deletion could soon expand to include characters from all Unicode aliases—many of which are redirects that you (← mostly) and I have created. "Unnecessary disambiguation" CommentHi Gorobay, I see you have moved a number of German articles to remove the disambiguator. Please be a little careful because in each case there is a reason for it. For example there is a village called Lopau on the Luneburg Heath as well as the Lopau river; it's just that we have yet to create the former article. When I translate these articles from German Wiki, I usually leave the disambiguator in because, sooner or later I, or someone else, will translate the other articles from which they need disambiguating. If you're not sure, do ask the editors involved - we're always happy to help. --Bermicourt (talk) 22:07, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
100 yard dashYou just renamed the article by adding the hyphen. Why? Are you now going to damage all of our athletics, swimming or other distance related events across wikipedia by adding a hyphen to each of them? We are describing a distance run. The hyphen is unnecessary and improper. Trackinfo (talk) 00:00, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Budōkan karatePlease move this article back to the disambiguated title, and change the resultant redirect to point to Budokan, an appropriate disambiguation page. The macron is insufficient disambiguation, and an obscure minor style of karate is hardly the primary topic. If anything, the Tokyo arena should be the target if the redirect, and the undisambiguated title, as it is clearly the primary topic. oknazevad (talk) 16:59, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
⁜Greetings, I notice you added Template:R from symbol back to ⁜. You are correct that not all symbols are Unicode characters, but I realized today that all Unicode characters are symbols and that Category:Redirects from Unicode characters is a subcategory of Category:Redirects from symbols. It seems like classifying a redirect with Template:R from Unicode is enough to indicate both that it is a symbol and that it is specifically a Unicode character. Thanks! Hi, Decision Sciences is a field of study (and now that it exists, should be redirected to an appropriate target, such as decision making). Decision Sciences is an academic journal and should therefore have a dab. I'd appreciate if you could revert this move. Similarly, we have anti-cancer drug, which redirects to chemotherapy, but anti-cancer drugs now goes to a journal article. This should properly also go to chemotherapy and Anti-Cancer Drugs should be moved back to Anti-Cancer Drugs (journal). Thanks. --Randykitty (talk) 16:44, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Patently they are all of a pattern and should be rubber-stamped as delete, and you yourself point out the exceptions when you think there is any doubt on those that you list: but most are not in doubt and I am fed up with doing elegant variation on these. Thanks for finding them but don't do a second flood: we have another one going at WP:RFD with nicknames of teams in the National Football League (whatever that is, some America thing apparently). I can't sep them out because you have been canny to write a very slightly different comment under each, that has the same meaning. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 08:53, 11 June 2014 (UTC) Roman gentes and disambiguationUntil now, all Roman gens articles shared the same titling format, making it easy to identify and link to them from articles concerning members. The disambiguation "(gens)" contained in the title also distinguished the articles from individual members; all of the women in a gens would share the name of the gens as a nomen. While there are some smaller gens articles with no individual biographies of women members at this point, it's entirely possible that there may be in the future, which would require moving these articles back over the redirects just created (and thus administrator assistance). A persistent problem with existing Roman biographical articles is their inconsistent naming and organization; for instance a number of individuals might be referred to as "Sempronia," and each of them might be entitled to a separate article. But several of them are (or at one time were) lumped together into a single article, for no better reason than that they shared the same name. Others who also shared that name have their own articles, thanks to other methods of disambiguation. There is no systematic organization to the titling and contents of Roman biographical articles; hence the use of consistent disambiguation for the gens articles, as a remedy for some of these issues. Please consider moving the articles back to their original titles. Unilateral moves with inappropriate edit summariesHi, Gorobay. I ask you to please stop removing text in brackets from article titles based in foreign languages using inappropriate and misleading edit summaries. There's nothing "unnecessary" about abbreviations. Abbreviations are not disambiguations. Please make a note of the difference in the meaning of these two terms. Abbreviations are used when the actual English translation of the original name is not officially recognized in that language. You moved unilaterally, the Belarusian Home Defence (BKA) to Belarusian Home Defence over redirect. Meanwhile, Belarusian Home Defence is not an official name of BKA, read it. It is one of the possible translations of Беларуская краёвая абарона. Another translation is "Byelorussian Home Guard". The only constant is 'BKA' in its name. Please restore the official abbreviation. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 18:58, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
You keep flogging these two words: "ambiguous" and "disambiguation" as if there was no way out. The "Belarusian Home Defence" is not a name of a movie like in your other unilateral moves. Round brackets are not "ambiguous". "Belarusian Home Defence" is used in English literature, and so is "Byelorussian Home Guard". The wp:article name would allow for both. The only constant is BKA. However, BKA (on its own) would not be good enough because of German Bundeskriminalamt (BKA, Federal Criminal Investigation Bureau) and the Chinese BKA (Red Hats). Why didn't you pose a question in talk before acting? The original Belorussian spelling is not so popular in English literature. Poeticbent talk 19:46, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

MojibakeI added a bit at Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Mojibake_redirects not well put but in your favour. Si Trew (talk) 22:25, 10 January 2015 (UTC) Mojibake Rs (Pokémon)Hi Gorobay, Thanks for your tireless work listing these tiresome mojibakes at RfD. I for one appreciate it, but usually stay silent to let them go delete by default. Doesn't mean I don't notice how much hard work you must put in to hunting these down and trapping them. It piqued my interest with some of the Pokémon ones, since "Pokémon" is already a transliteration of katakana "ポケモン", and presumably chosen deliberately by the marketing department (since they could have called it anything in other markets, as car brands frequently are, for example). So the "é" was presumably deliberately chosen for distinction even though it is not usual in English words. (e.g. Nestlé's seems to have become keener on pronouncing its e acute, which in my childhood rhymed with nettles and indeed members of the company pronounced it that way). Anyway that is probably beside the point, but that what would happen if the katakana itself was mojibaked? Do we have a mojibake for ポケモン, for example, or for titles that are half English and half kana? I don't know much about the mojibake algorithm (and don't want to know more than I have to!) but I am curious about this. Happy new year, belatedly. Si Trew (talk) 06:26, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

"Unnecessary disambiguation" at Alan HallI just wanted to make sure that you were aware of this discussion. The "born 1952" was added so that the notable biologist Alan Hall's article would not again be contaminated with material about the not-quite-as-notable Alan Hall, also a biologist. JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 23:58, 4 October 2017 (UTC) Flag redirectsAn interesting observation. After installing the latest Mac OS the flags in the above two sections have changed. Now they are not just black flags but black flags with a garbled icon adjacent to them. I write 'adjacent' not 'following' as the garbled icon appears on top of the following text. I noticed it first in my contributions but it’s easiest to see on this page. Seems Apple have added support for them in both Mac OS and iOS. But the only flags that actually work now are the three British countries, 🏴 England, 🏴 Scotland and 🏴 Wales. Others are not yet supported, but it displays the characters of the tag superimposed after the black flag to show that something is there. If you zoom in and squint you can tell the two redirects’ tags are different, made up of different chars. Reading around a bit and which other flags are supported, if any, is up to the OS. Unlike national flags (of e.g. countries in the UN) there’s no obvious way to decide which sub-national flags are most important so I would not like to guess when others will be supported.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 14:21, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia. I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in! From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community. The issue of whether a glyph is specifically assigned to the Emoji block of code points is irrelevant to whether it's an emoji (a character used as a pictorial representation of non-textual information). See Emoji §Unicode blocks: they're all over the place. The unicode.org boolean for whether a character is an emoji does not indicate what you're saying it does (for example, it says that ©️ is an emoji and 🥆 is not, despite © being in Latin 1 Supplement and 🥆 being in Supplemental Symbols and Pictographs). The issue of whether a character "is an emoji" is complicated (there are some characters outside the emoji block that are rendered pictorially by many devices, as well as some characters in the emoji block that are not rendered pictorially). One example is your removal of 🤻 from the category -- this doesn't make sense. It's in the Supplemental Symbols and Pictographs block — the same as 🥋, 🤣, 🥰, 🤩, and 🤪 — and its lack of a pictorial representation is cited in RS as being due to political considerations. I am not saying that there is a proper order of things where all of these pages are in the same category, or that the way it was before is perfect — just that some discussion about the issue (perhaps at Category talk:Redirects from emoji) would be preferable to a WP:FAITACCOMPLI. jp×g 21:57, 1 May 2021 (UTC) "🛩️" listed at Redirects for discussionA discussion is taking place to address the redirect 🛩️.
